Matthew A. Cherry had an exciting night at the 92nd Academy Awards when his film, Hair Love, took home the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. The six-minute short tells the story of an African American father doing his daughter’s hair for the first time.

Little Zuri has gorgeous, natural hair but when a special day arrives, she struggles with getting it to look how she wants. With the help of her dad, Hair Love shows the sweet story of overcoming obstacles and the special bond between father and daughter.

Relatable on many levels, the story shares both relational and cultural issues that we all share. It’s no wonder this inspiring short took home the award.
