What is Giving Tuesday? You got in line early and got the deals on Black Friday. And what you didn’t cross off of Santa’s list, you pointed, clicked and saved on Cyber Monday. So what comes next? Well, instead of buying your kiddo’s yet another toy (there are only so many presents that their little fingers can unwrap), consider giving. And here’s where Giving Tuesday comes in.

Founded in 2012, Giving Tuesday celebrates…well, giving. Just like Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday promote shopping, shopping and more shopping, Giving Tuesday promotes spending. But this time, it’s in a charitable way.

We all know that Black Friday and the other post-Thanksgiving spending days are wildly successful. But how does Giving Tuesday stack up? Two years ago, in 2015, 98 countries participated in this day — raising 177 million dollars online. There were 2.4 million social media posts, and the average online donation was just over $107.

So what can you do to give back on Giving Tuesday? Look for and share the hashtag #GivingTuesday to bring awareness to any charity that you feel connected to. Then give! Give through a monetary donation to a charity (or charities) of your choice. But that’s not the only way to give back. Give your time or your skills, volunteering for a good cause.
