Step down into the basement of this Pacific Northwest family home and you’ll find way more than meets the eye. What was once a basement den filled with leather couches and a fireplace is now transformed into a brightly lit, whimsical playroom that looks like it jumped out of the pages of one of our favorite glossy magazines. The genius behind this remodel? Seattle-based supermom Asia and her husband. Living in Seattle, Asia and her hubby decided that their daughter and her soon-to-be sibling would need a place to play during the long and wet Seattle rainy season that didn’t require wrestling the kids into the car and driving across town. But how does one go about transforming an entire den into a playroom filled with rock walls, gymnastics rings, a LEGO table, a pretend kitchen area, and a brick-encased magnet board? We caught up with Asia and asked her exactly how she was able to pull off this incredible DIY makeover. We’d just as soon never leave our house if we had one of these rooms in our basement.
All in all, the majority of the project took just over two weeks to complete! With a little extra help from her parents, Asia was able to have the room ready all finished right around Christmas. Perfect for accommodating all of the new gifts for their little one.
While we can only hope to boast a fraction of the fabricating and design talent of Asia and her fam, she recommended that anyone who is planning a similar project should make an idea board (read: Pinterest). By coming up with a plan and coordinating everything around it was a hugely important process in this remodel. Asia admits that there were items they couldn't originally afford, but she was still able to plan exactly what colors, space, and themes she wanted. When they were finally able to purchase everything, the room looked like it had been laid out perfectly from the start.
We’re beyond impressed with all of the hard work and inspiration that went into this project. With so many great features packed into one great space, it’s no doubt that this playroom will offer countless opportunities for learning, exploring, and of course, play as their kids grow. Feeling inspired? This remodel was part of a series of renovations that Asia and her husband did; check out their other awesome projects–a Reading Room and an Art Room.
Which of these ideas would you include in your dream room remodel?
