As you probably heard through the parenting grapevine, last weekend a 5-year old kindergarten student in the Bay Area  died after testing positive for the flu. It remains to be seen whether the flu was actually the cause of death.

As moms ourselves,we are heartbroken for the family and for the community.

This tragedy also brings up many questions. The CDC now recommends that most people over the age of 6 months receive the flu vaccine annually. In addition to vaccination,  doctors stress the need for respiratory and hand hygiene and for the already sick to stay home when ill.

Has your child already had a flu shot this year? Does this incident make you think differently about the flu shot? Are you more likely to keep your child home with a runny nose? We’d love to hear your thoughts
