Raising kids is not cheap and escaping for a night away isn’t either. Getting in a date night is totally worth the price, but how much do babysitters cost exactly?

UrbanSitter has rounded up the 2019 babysitter rates across the country as a part of its 8th Annual National Childcare Rates Survey. The company surveyed more than 28,000 parents in the United States and found that the average hourly babysitting rate is $16.75 for one child and $19.26 for two children. These rates are up two percent since last year and 18 percent in the last five years.

Of course, not every city is created equal when it comes to babysitting fees. Topping out as the most expensive city to hire a sitter is San Francisco where the average cost is $18.75 for one kid and $21.30 for two. The lowest costing city for babysitters is Las Vegas where the average is $11.63 for one and $14.71 for two.

The survey also revealed some other interesting stats. Fifty-eight percent of parents surveyed said they hired a babysitter at least once a month or more, and the thing they look forward to most on a date night was reconnecting with their partner. Still, finding the right babysitter is critical to enjoying a night out with 40 percent responding that booking their favorite sitter for a date night was more important than booking their favorite restaurant.
