We all have them: those IG “friends” that we feel obliged to follow. Many they’re our old college roommates, the other PTA moms or a cousin who we never see, but really should. Whoever they are, they post waaaaaaaay too much. Well now Instagram’s new Mute button feature is here to save your sanity.
If you’re thinking, “Um, can’t I just unfollow those annoying over-posters?”, the answer is yes. But if that person goes digging into their follower list and finds that you’re suddenly and noticeably absent, then you might have a problem on your hands.
Instead of having to completely unfollow anyone whose posts irritate you, now you can just mute them. Yep. Mute them. Earlier this week Instagram officially announced this new feature, showing us all how to hide posts from accounts you don’t really want to see, but don’t necessarily want to unfollow.
So how does the magical mute feature work? Just go to one of the unwanted account’s posts and tap on those three little dots in the corner. Select “Mute” from the menu and choose whether you want to “Mute Posts” or “Mute Posts and Story.” And that’s it!
Don’t worry, the person behind the profile you muted won’t know that you’ve shut them down—it’s your little secret.
