So you think that you know how to pronounce Chrissy Teigen’s name? Um, think again. Apparently we’ve all been doing it wrong—for years. Yikes!
The model mom, who recently launched her own kitchen line with Target, took to Twitter on Sunday with a video sharing the correct pronunciation of her name. Even though we’ve all been saying TEE-gen, that’s not actually how her last name is pronounced—as Teigen’s mom confirms for fans in the background of the video.
So how do you pronounce Chrissy Teigen’s name? It’s TIE-gen, like a man’s necktie—and not TEE-gen, like a tee shirt.
And yes, Teigen does recognize the fact that she even refers to herself as Chrissy Tee-gen. After a Twitter follower questioned Teigen’s own pronunciation, “But wait…when you say it YOU say tee-gen!” Chrissy replied, “I know. I even correct people when they say it correctly.”
Teigen also tweeted, “I don’t correct people ever. They can call me Janet and I won’t. Wrong order. I’ll eat it. Taxi going to the wrong airport. I’ll change my flight.” Hmm. It looks like Teigen might just be the easiest-going celeb out there.
So sorry Chrissy. We didn’t mean to mispronounce your name for so long. It’s going to be hard to pull a sudden switch from Tee-gen to Tie-gen, but we’ll tree—I mean, try.
