Owner Mandy Sim recently took the time to chat with us about what makes Jam Time so awesome, the inspiration behind the business, and more. Read on:
Red Tricycle: Congratulations on being voted “Most Awesome” by your community! What do you think your customers value most about your business?
Mandy Sim: Jam Time is so excited that our community voted us Most Awesome Indoor Playspace in the Boston area! We work super hard to be an ultra-clean, safe, and friendly play spot for little ones and their caregivers. From our Cedar Works play structures, quality toys, color selection and ambiance, comfy seating for parents, cafe area, classes, and party packages, we strive to be a go-to destination for families with young children.
RT: What inspired you to start your business?
MS: My husband and I were working in the 3D animation and visual effects industry in Los Angeles when we started talking about moving back to the east coast to be closer to family, for the New England weather, and as a place to ultimately raise our two young children. With our entertainment backgrounds and not a huge demand for work, we decided to start our own business to support our family and we could not think of a better business to start than a children’s indoor playspace! We are so happy that we made this decision and we are now working on opening our second location!
RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?
MS: Research, research, research! Do your homework and research everything you can from demographic data for your location, competition, financial goals, and be sure to start a business plan.
RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?
MS: This can be a tough one at times, but of course being a parent always comes first. Having a solid routine and schedule helps keep our family happy and business running smoothly.
RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?
MS: When we open our second location, that will be a pretty big moment for us. Winning awards such as this Red Tricycle Most Awesome award is great! As a parent, it’s neat to hear your 7 year old recruiting her favorite summer camp counselors to work at Jam Time when camp is over!
RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?
MS: Yes! Mention code REDTRICYCLEWINNER to get 10% off any Jam Time class or $25 off any birthday party package. Not to be combines with any other offer. Expires September 2014.
