Red Tricycle: Congratulations! Your community recently voted you “Most Awesome”. What do you think your customers value most about your business?
Jessica Stowe: We are honored to have won this award. We believe that our customers value our dedication, persistence and determination. We love to get a thorough understanding of what our families and caregivers are looking for so we can better understand who would be the best fit for them. We want to understand parenting philosophies, discipline techniques, personalities, what has worked before and what hasn’t etc. We realize that every caregiver and family has different needs and values and that not every family or caregiver will be a good fit for each other. I often joke that we are match-makers, but for families and caregivers. That is essentially what we are. For us, it is not only about placing a caregiver in a home but we are in the business of forming long term relationships.
RT: What inspired you to start your business?
JS: I have always been passionate about helping others and have worked as a caregiver for many years. I became very frustrated with the process of finding care positions and felt that the process available at the time was so impersonal while working in someone’s home is just the opposite. I heard very similar things from parents looking for caregivers. I sought to create a business that allowed for families and caregivers to connect in a safe, personal and warm environment.
RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?
JS: As a business owner I have learned so much and continue to learn every day. My advice to new business owners is to believe in yourself and in your business. To be a successful business owner you need to live and breathe your business and believe in the mission of your company because that will shine through in everything that you do. I also believe that business owners need to be willing to adapt to industry changes and continuously examine their business to see what can be improved upon.
RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner?
JS: I have many proud moments but there is nothing like checking in with a family who has employed a caregiver that we placed and hear how much that caregiver has changed their lives. It makes me so proud of the caregivers that we place. I know that if it wasn’t for our service, the family and caregiver would have never connected.
RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?
JS: We would love to offer Red Tricycle readers 10% off our one-time custom search fees through December 31, 2013. This offer includes occasional, part time, and full time searches for the Boston area only but excludes our day rate temporary care fee. This offer cannot be combined with other offers.
