Swish Printables is all about fun and creative designs that spread the happy around with every occasion. Mastermind owner Donna Martin loves producing one-of-a-kind printables and helping people plan their very own party themes, taking the mystery and stress out of the celebration.
With fun-loving support like that, we can see why Swish Printables was your Totally Awesome pick for best card supplier around! Donna recently took the time to chat with us about what makes Swish awesome, her advice for aspiring business owners, and more. Read on:
Red Tricycle: Congratulations! Your community recently voted you “Most Awesome.” What do your customers value most about your business?
Donna Martin: My customers value my cute designs, attention to detail, and commitment to providing the best customer service that I can. I work with moms and dads who have never used printables before and am happy to share the “how tos” to make their party successful – and worthy of a party blog feature.
RT: What inspired you to start your business?:
DM: I was inspired to start Swish right after I got married. I started out creating wedding-related printables (menu cards, monograms, programs, place cards, invitation suites, etc) and have really focused the last few years on kids and young adult parties. My own kids continue to inspire me – and provide inspiration for new party themes.
RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?
DM: Find your own style and stick to it. Try to avoid competitor sites and just focus on developing your own style. Be influenced by everything around you – but don’t copy someone else’s idea. Let your own passion for what you do and love come through in your work. If you’re just “in it for the money”, your customers will see right through you.
RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?
DM: Set your boundaries with your business and your customers. Know what your daily schedule is like and work around that schedule. Communicate with your customers and don’t be afraid to say “yes I can do that” or more importantly “I wish I could….” Once your boundaries are set, stick to them. If you find that they no longer hold true for you, set up new rules of operation.
RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?
DM: As a business owner, I have actually had two. The first is when I saw my printables in use –and on Hostess with the Mostess. I felt very validated. The second moment is seeing my printables in a magazine as part of a gorgeous tea party styled by a very talented event stylist.
As a parent, there are so many proud moments! I try to celebrate the little moments every day. I think that my proudest moments have been seeing my children make ‘the right choices’ even when I’m not around. This is a true testament to my/our parenting.
RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?
DM: All Red Tricycle readers can use REDTRI to save 10% off of all standard/non-custom orders in my Etsy shop. (Case sensitive)
