Telling your older kids that they are about to get a new sibling is a moment neither of you will forget. So it can be fun to celebrate the occasion with a special reveal. It doesn’t get much cuter than how Joanna Gaines revealed her pregnancy to her kids.
Joanna recently told Country Living about how she and Chip decided to tell the kids the exciting news. “I had all these onesies out that [said] ‘big brother’ and ‘big sister’ and I made them turn around and look at it. And it took them all a second to figure what the heck it was about,” Joanna explained. Once they understood what it meant, it was all smiles and excitement. “They lost it. They were so excited, and I think that’s what makes me the most excited — that they’re celebrating with us.”
The Fixer Upper couple didn’t wait long to tell their four kids that they had a new baby joining the family. With their youngest already 8 years old, all four are old enough to really understand what it means to have a new sibling on the way. “Typically we’d say, ‘Hey, let’s wait a couple of weeks before we say anything,’ but we told them that day,” Joanna said. “Out of anybody, we were most excited to tell the kids. Now that they’re older, they get it and understand.” She added that seeing them so excited is the best part, “Back however many years ago when I had Emmie, they were all so young,” she adds. “They were 4 and under, and they didn’t really get it. But now, I have an 8-year-old kid to a 13-year-old kid, and every day they ask how many more days until the baby comes. So that’s been the most exciting thing — watching how excited they are.”
Hopefully, that excitement will continue once the baby arrives. With a large gap between her youngest and the new baby, Joanna also explained that she feels like she has to relearn how to be a mom to a newborn again.
