Childbirth isn’t all rainbows, unicorns and magic for every mama. Kim Kardashian West opened up about her difficult pregnancies recently, and we can all relate to her struggles. Sure, she’s a superstar celeb. But that doesn’t mean Kim K is exempt from some of the same issues that other women have as they go through pregnancy, labor and delivery.
Kim famously used a gestational carrier with her third daughter, Chi. While she certainly doesn’t owe anyone an explanation, Kardashian-West did publicly explain her reasoning — and it was all medical. In an interview with Elle magazine, she says that the use of the carrier was at her doctor’s recommendation.
During both of Kardashian West’s prior deliveries, with daughter North and son Saint, the mama mogul suffered from placenta accreta. Kim told Elle magazine, “After giving birth, your placenta is supposed to come out. But mine was stuck. That’s what women usually die from in childbirth—you hemorrhage and bleed to death and they can’t stop it.” Scary. Right?
Kardashian West also talked about her mom, Kris Jenner’s, reaction to the trouble-filled births, “To this day, if you mention it to her, she’ll cry. It was traumatic.”
While Kardashian West may seem like she has the “perfect” life, it’s not without challenges. Sharing her childbirth story shows us that every woman struggles, every woman gets scared and every woman can overcome just about anything.
