Fans still have some time to wait until the live action Little Mermaid reboot hits the big screen, but in the mean time ABC is rolling out a live musical Little Mermaid and the newly announced cast is a dream team.
ABC has promised that The Little Mermaid Live! will be different than any other production of its kind, as a mash-up of live performances and animation. The “never-before-seen hybrid format” will “feature beautifully intricate sets and costumes, with music from the original” according to ABC, which will be producing the show together with the Wonderful World of Disney.
Auli’i Cravalho the talented young voice behind Moana will play Ariel, singer and actress Queen Latifah is lined up to play Ursula and reggae artist Shaggy will voice Ariel’s wise, sidekick crustacean Sebastian.
Earlier this year Disney announced the live action reboot of the hit ’90s animated film The Little Mermaid starring singer Halle Bailey, which will follow in a recent parade of remakes including Aladdin, The Lion King and Mulan.
The Little Mermaid Live! will air on ABC on Tues. Nov. 5 at 8p.m.
