It’s the perfect time of year to get up to Tahoe and teach your children how to ski, snowboard, sled, or just make a good snowball. The deals to be had on hotel rooms and condo rentals are some of the best we’ve seen in years. If you’re not quite ready to tackle the bustling big-name resorts with kiddies in tow, Soda Springs (just off Hwy 80 before Truckee) has the most activities and best play area for little ones not quite ready to start ski school yet. Designed for families to enjoy the snow together, the new and bigger location of their Planet Kids play area has sleighs to take little ones to where the action is. And that action, for a mere $20 admission, includes a moving carpet for the little ski/snowboard run, mini-snowmobiles on a safe track, and a tubing area, including a “tube carousel.” You can even upgrade, for $25, to get your tot a half-hour chairlift lesson. Instead of dropping your kids off with instructors, they ask that you stay with them for their first runs. Why would you want to miss that, anyway?
