You sing the praises of your Odyssey at school drop-off.  Your trunk is filled with tutus, dog hair and soccer cleats. Then the last straw – you realized you were bee lining straight for the kids shoe department at Nordstrom without even glancing at the make-up counter or rag & bone jeans that were actually on sale.  It’s hard not to let parenting take over your life and leave you feeling a bit bedraggled, but luckily LA is the epicenter of youthful, hip attitudes and casual chic spots.  Our LA Editor compiled her 10 favorite local things that will help you start off the New Year feeling current, cutting edge and a bit more like your old (young) self – and they all fit into your family lifestyle.  Just start by scraping that oatmeal off your shirt.

Brunch & Art

Remember brunch? It’s the meal you eat after staying out too late and sleeping in. It’s leisurely and elegant. It’s a thing of the past. Or not. Head over to Ray’s and Stark Bar at LACMA one Saturday or Sunday morning. Grab a seat outside and while you sip a Steel Magnolia and nibble on some blue shrimp and grits, the kids can scarf some pizza and play hide and seek in the lamps. (Or stay inside, where the kids will become entranced by the hidden silverware drawers.) Then duck in the museum and stroll through a gallery or two before indulging the kids in some Korean Brush painting and a visit to Metropolis II. Art and indulgence in one morning and the kids didn’t complain once. Nirvana.

5900 Wilshire Blvd., Miracle Mile
Brunch is available from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the weekends.
