We’re all for stocking up on kids clothes at retail chains and big box stores. But when it comes to certain back-to-school essentials (think a backpack that’s both durable and adorable) or special occasion looks (like, say, the first day of kindergarten), you might want to splurge a little. Fortunately, this being LA, there’s no shortage of fashion-forward kiddie stores offering the latest must-have pieces. Help little ones make the grade with our guide to LA’s best children’s boutiques, plus our favorite finds from each spot.

Yolk: The Details

This go-to Silver Lake gift store Yolk has plenty of quirky gifts (Purple Rain mug, anyone?) and artisan goods, but we're partial to the playful, statement-making kids clothes from oh-so-cool labels including Bobo Choses and Mini Rodini

We love the message emblazoned on this Mini Rodini sweatshirt, $58. The ultra-soft top is made of 100 percent organic cotton and comes in three sizes, from  9-18 months to 3-5 years. Our only complaint: They don't make one in our size.

Poppy Store: The Details

Located at the Brentwood Country Mart, Poppy offers classic kids clothes from French and Belgian brands like Bonton, Bonpoint and Petit Bateau. (Oui, oui!) If you're looking for a deal, check out the 50 percent off summer sale for adorable striped tees, whimsical floral prints and more.
