Bring on the peanuts and Cracker Jack; baseball season is in full swing and for small sluggers it’s the most wonderful time of the year (sorry, Santa!). If your little leaguer can’t go to every game (who can?) or even see them on TV (grrrrr), we’ve struck upon loads of ways to get into the spirit of LA baseball. From Friday night fireworks to baseball inspired treats there is plenty in our great city to keep everyone entertained past the 7th inning stretch.

Learn Baseball (and American) History

Head over to the Skirball and see “Chasing Dreams: Becoming American” this season if you’d like the family to learn more about baseball history that goes far beyond batting averages and celebrity status. This exhibition covers baseball heavies like Hank Greenberg, Sandy Koufax, Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, Roberto Clemente, Fernando Valenzuela, and Ichiro Suzuki: all players who didn’t just play the game but faced adversity and served as serious role models in the sports world and beyond. Learn how baseball has played a role in “becoming American” and how a changing America has forever changed the face of baseball.

Also, on June 4th, the Skirball is hosting a special “Play Ball” family sleepover complete with a tasty dinner and special interactive tour of the exhibition. Check their website for details. Chasing Dreams run through October 30.
