The holidays are coming, the holidays are coming! Nothing brings family and friends closer than food, especially fresh baked goods. But sometimes you’re a bit too busy to fire up your own oven. Winston Pies to the rescue; this new shop bakes up flaky delights in the perfect size for everyone from a nosh for your new eater to giant home baked treats for the whole Thanksgiving crew. Read on to get the scoop on why you should round up the family ASAP and head to Brentwood for pie.
Where Everybody Knows Your Name
Winston Pies offers an elevated take on down-home baking. Brianna Abrams (a former full-time attorney turned full-time baker and mother of two) hails from Winston (hence, the name of the shop)-Salem, NC. She brings with her a legacy of family bakers and the charm to match. Her pie is delish, but what makes this place a standout is the atmosphere. Winston Pies friendly and welcoming atmosphere has already won over the hearts and bellies of neighborhood regulars. They stop in morning, noon and night just to say hello—most order pie, but others come in to share a friendly smile and their gratitude for Brianna’s hospitality.
The shop boasts southern luxury with a sleek and modern motif. Neon signage and copper detailing accentuate the blue and white decor. When you enter, you’ll find a large porch swing situated along the interior wall. This is a showpiece that kids pile on with PieBites in hand.
Pies in Every Shape and Size
Speaking of, toddlers really dig the PieBites. These perfectly sized morsels of deliciousness taste the same as a slice of pie but are far more convenient for tiny bodies on the move. Your little one can have his pie and eat it too! Unlike other pie shops, Winston offers a wide range of sizes: 11-inch round pie, 5-inch mini pies, 4-inch square hand pies, and those PieBites, which are not only perfect for kids but great for work and birthday parties (so long cupcakes!)—they are sold individually or by the dozen.
This or That?
There’s pie for every person and any occasion. It’s worth mentioning (again), kiddos go totally bananas for the Blueberry PieBites and Cowgirl Pie which features decadent chocolate and caramel set in an oat crust. The staff (and Brianna’s husband, Dan, who runs the counter) raves about the Dixie Classic Cherry Pie, and of course, everyone falls head over heels for the Harvest Apple. With perfectly buttery and flaky crust, every slice of pie is a real treat. No matter what flavor you choose, you’ll be happy, because the fruit pies feel slightly healthy and the chocolates and cream variations are so decadent it’s worth the indulgence. Little ones inevitably ask for ice cream to top off their pie and parents readily oblige. After all, nobody can pass up a scoop of McConnell’s vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
Parents Wanna Have Fun, Too
Family fun is the main course here. But this sweet shop also serves up a side of romance. Couples looking for an evening stroll after dinner at culinary hotspots Pizzana or Baltaire can head over to Winston for dessert, since they’re open until 9 p.m. (and when have you had the energy to stay out past then, since becoming a parent?)
While Angelenos may love cupcakes, we’re making room for pie. So swing over, curl up on the swing and enjoy some southern hospitality, with a side of tasty pie.
Good to know: A wide selection of pies are available gluten-free and can be customized to accommodate folks with other dietary restrictions. Holiday orders are filling up fast so place yours pronto!
