LA Kids (Virtual) Weekend Events: May 15-17

Whether you’re looking to venture out—while abiding by the latest Safer at Home regulations, of course—or you’d rather stay closer to home, we’ve got you covered. Read on for the latest can’t-miss virtual events (including a family walk for a great cause), plus get the scoop on which of LA’s outdoor spaces are open with with social distancing restrictions in place.


Create a Masterpiece
The Broad is the latest museum to offer special content for kids at-home. Every Fri., there will be a new art activity tutorial for families, inspired by artists from the Broad collection. More details.

Rock Out
Kids can drum along to a live show by The BeatBuds during the week. The duo live-streams their performance every weekday at 9:30a.m., but you can check out the concert any time on YouTube. More details.

Take a Story Time Break
The Los Angeles Public Library has lots of story times throughout the week to help entertain little ones. And on Fri. at 11a.m., Miss Lauren of the Studio City branch presents a book, interactive songs and felt board stories kids will love. More details.

Have a Ball at the Beastly Ball
Everyone’s invited to the L.A. Zoo’s biggest fundraiser event of the year, featuring celebrity guest stars (including a special message from the Wild Kratts brothers!), animal spotlights and more. The special live, virtual event supports the Zoo’s global wildlife conservation and takes place on Endangered Species Day. More details.

Explore the Arboretum
Limited tickets are available for pre-sale, giving you a chance to stroll through the grounds of this lush garden safely. Currently, Sat. & Sun. are sold out for non-members, but Fri. tickets are still available. More details.


Get Moving with Walk & Play LA for CHLA
Putting the fun in fundraising, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles is going virtual with their annual Walk & Play event. Families can still help raise money for the hospital (including its COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund), while rocking out to Jason Mraz, warming up with a celebrity trainer, going on a Walk & Play Scavenger Hunt and more! Read with a Pup
Enjoy a new book every week with a special version of Paws & Pages with Annenberg PetSpace. Story time is followed by a virtual Pet Encounter, where you’ll “meet” the center’s adoptable pets.  More details.

OC Parks Sound Check
From now through the end of May, OC Parks is bringing concerts to you with this virtual concert series. On Sat., May 16, SoCal group Wheeland Brothers will perform surfer-inspired tunes like Summer Stars, Rising Tide and more. More details.


Visit the South Coast Botanic Garden
The 87-acre garden in Palos Verdes is open on a limited basis to guests, with social distancing rules in place. It’s a way to get out of the house, explore nature and stay safe. More details.


Go Wild with Wild Child
On of our favorite local indoor play spaces, Wild Child, is now offering fun, upbeat classes for little ones, free on their new YouTube channel. You can also sign up for Live Zoom classes daily. More details.

Do Some Doodling
Illustrator and author Mo Willems (creator of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and other kid favorites) hosts a daily Lunch Doodle. Grab some paper and pencils, pens, or crayons and join Mo for some creative fun. More details.
