Once every 4 years it’s time to curl up on the couch and watch some serious athletes compete in the winter games. Whether you prefer the speed (and slight ludicrousness) of the luge, the grace of the figure skaters or the fearlessness of the snowboarders, it’s all spectacular for family viewing. But you and your Bode Miller, Shaun White or Gracie Gold wanna-bes can also get out and get a little Olympic action (and history) of your own, even in sunny SoCal…
Who says winter sports have to take place in the snow? In LA we’ve figured out how to mix our beaches with our sleds and do a little sand sledding. Hit the berms in Hermosa or Malibu.
One last fun fact: Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics twice and both times it was by default, as no other city bid to host either the 1932 or 1984 games.
