There’s a race for everyone at the Yuletide 5K

Don’t fret if your kids are home, there are plenty of outings this weekend! From holiday inspired events such as The Nutcracker ballet, to outdoor education such as Twelve Days by the Seashore, or a 5K Yuletide run on the beach, there is no shortage of things to do. And those in search of a white Christmas will love the Malibu Winter Wonderland or the Kids Christmas Spectacular at Dodger Stadium, both of which are snow-filled delights. Plus the Toy Story gang will be spinning and twirling at the Staples Center’s Disney on Ice.

For those of you with a case of the bah-humbugs, this weekend kicks off Grinchmas at Universal Studios –featuring a snowy landscape, a Whoville sing-a-long, celebrity readings and plenty more fun.

Disney on Ice: Toy Story 3
The Staples Center hosts Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the gang as they tie on ice skates. Watch the fun as they glide through adventures such as finding their way back to Andy’s house and battling the evil emperor. Kids Christmas Spectacular
The Dodger Stadium parking lot gets a snowy makeover with this kid-approved event. It’s the perfect play land complete with a snow play area, giant slides, sledding, toy giveaway, snacks, and more! Sat., Noon to 5 p.m., Downtown L.A. (Elysian Park), Free. Event Details.

The Los Angeles Ballet presents the Nutcracker
Kids of all ages love this classic holiday tale of Clara and her magical nutcracker. UCLA’s Royce Hall will be transformed to an enchanted land where mice and princes battle, sugarplums dance and dolls come to life. Sat. and Sun., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., Westwood, $25-$95. Event Details.

Iddy Biddy Sports Sign Up
Burn off some toddler energy by signing up your little kicker for soccer, basketball, at the Palisades-Malibu YMCA. Classes begin Jan. 15th but sign up starts this weekend. Malibu Winter Wonderland
If the warm weather has you feeling more summer than winter, then make a run for the snow. Malibu Country Mart will get wintry with real snow falling all afternoon. And there’s plenty more fun including pictures with Santa Claus, snowman making contests, live caroling and treats. Sat., Noon to 5 p.m., Malibu. Free. Event Details.

 

Los Angeles Children Theater
If calming your little monkeys down is in order, then you’re in luck. This weekend has two great openings geared for children: an adaptation of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree and the classic story, The Velveteen Rabbit. Both include lively music, dance numbers and beautiful costumes. The Velveteen Rabbit. Yuletide 5K Sunset Run/Walk
No need to rise at the crack of dawn for this jaunt! This afternoon race is right on the beach at low tide and begs for the whole family to hang out for the sunset. Best of all, there is a race for every age including Crawlers (2 and under), Little Elves (ages 3-6), and Elves Dash (ages 7-12) or the whole family can go together in the 5K Run/Walk. Twelve Days by the Seashore
Inspired by the classic holiday tune, the Aquarium of the Pacific celebrates the season in true marine style. This two-hour class teaches seafaring kiddos about twelve different marine animals such as jellies, sea stars and turtles.  The class includes a tour, animal touch time and a keepsake book.
