It’s a long holiday weekend ahead and we’ve got plenty of activities to keep little ones entertained—from touring massive Navy ships at LA Fleet Week to lassoing a cow at the County Fair. LA County Fair
Feeling ambitious this weekend? Head to the opening of LA’s annual carnival extravaganza, which runs until Sept. 22. In addition to the usual attractions (think: fried foods, the ferris wheel and farm animals galore), kids can also climb aboard the Fairplex’s historic trains, explore a life-size doll house, check out a wild west show and more. Fiesta Hermosa
For three days, Hermosa Pier will be transformed into a massive art festival with more than 300 vendors. While little ones may not be interested in perusing the wares, they’re sure to enjoy the the kiddie carnival section with a 30-foot slide, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting and more. Sat.-Mon. San Pedro & Long Beach

Littlepalooza Family Festival
Want a festival geared just to kids? Bring the whole fam to Littlepaloaaza, where you can rock out to performances by The Beat Buds, Mista Cookie Jar and others, make a flower crown and other DIY crafts, and jump around in a bounce house or two. Mon. Event details.

LA Fleet Week
Honor our nation’s military sea services with this Labor Day celebration. Kids are sure to be wowed by the massive ships docked at the port. Arrive early to score a tour (it’s first come, first serve), and stay to check out the STEM expo, aircraft flyovers,  equipment demos and live entertainment. Fri.-Mon. Event details.

Wonder-Full in the Park
It’s a celebration of Stevie Wonder featuring Brooklyn NY native DJ Spinnar. This free daytime event is geared to all ages, with dancing, food trucks and live t-shirt screen printing, and of course DJ Spinna spinning all Stevie exclusives, covers, samples and remixes. Sun. Event details.

Ice Cream Alley
Cool off with LA’s best ice cream and sweet treat purveyors, all in one place at Smorgasborg LA. Local faves including Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Sweet Rose Creamery and McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams will be on hand for one final Sunday. Sun. Event details.

Late Night Fridays at the Tar Pits
Explore the Tar Pits after hours experience our Mammoths and Mastodons at La Brea Tar Pits exhibition, and see what it’s like to get stuck in the “tar” with our Tar Pull. Fri. Event details.

Broad Fest
The annual community festival, Broad Fest, returns! This free outdoor event features music performances, a live DJ, dance lessons and other activities for the whole family. Sun. Event details.

Leimert Park Village Heritage Festival
Leimert Park Village has a storied history as being the cultural epicenter for Los Angeles’ African American community, brining together people of diverse cultures and lifestyles. The area’s 11th annual Heritage Festival will feature arts and crafts, music and more. Sat.-Mon. Event details.

West Adams Jazz & Music Festival
What started as a culturally diverse gathering of neighbors with picnic baskets and lawn chairs, enjoying local musicians from the community has turned into a much bigger event with activities for kids and dance contests, plus plenty of jazz. Fri.-Sun. Event details.
