July is National Anti-Boredom Month, and we are all about anti-boredom activities as we hit the middle of summer. So this weekend we found the cure for any summer ennui with plate smashing & dino dreaming, music & mermaids & movies, a county fair and an all new circus.

An “Out of This World” Circus
Three cheers for the circus, and the first Ringling Bros. show without the elephants. Instead, you’ll catch an intergalactic space adventure filled with death defying acts of derring-do. Fri.-Sun. Event details.
Hollywood & Mid-City
Ezra Jack Keats Celebration
The author of The Snowy Day & Hi, Cat! would be 100 today; celebrate all his amazing books and creations by exploring snow, cats and young imaginations. Sun. Event details.
SummerSounds at the Hollywood Bowl
Friday is the last day to hear some amazing Americana & blues when Rose’s Pawnshop plays SummerSounds at the Hollywood Bowl. But fear not; if you miss it you can get tickets for next week’s sonic trip to France with Les Zazous. Fri. Event details.
The Jungle Book on Stage
Mowgli, Shere Khan, Bagheera and Baloo all teach Mowgli the laws of the jungle. Opening this weekend, this play is a great introduction to the classic Kipling story for kids who were too young to see the new movie with big sibs. Sat. & Sun. Event details.
Mudbug Brass Band at the Skirball
Louisiana-rooted, LA-based Mudbug Brass Band is sure to get you up and dancing. (And if you can’t make the show, come on Sunday so kids can see other kids play with the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra.) Sat. Event details.
Opa! The South Bay Greek Festival
This is a fest with plenty music, plate crashing, dancing and fun, but really, it’s all about the food, like galaktoboureko. (Say what? Say yum!) Fri.-Sun. Event details.
Love Long Beach Festival
It’s everything you love about Long Beach in one weekend festival: corn hole (!), luaus, and a whole lot of runs, swims, beach volleyball, sand soccer, yoga, dog events, kid events, music, a fire dance and food. Sat. & Sun. Event details.
Orange County Fair
Nothing says summer like the County Fair, and the OC Fair opens this weekend packed with rides, exhibits, animals, free music, amazing concerts and of course food that must be tried to be believed. Fri.-Sun. Event details.
