Family Festival: The Book of Beasts
Calling all dragon and unicorn fans (so basically every kid). Inspired by its Book of Beasts exhibition, the Getty Center will host an all-day festival where little ones can create their own unicorn headdress and dazzling wings, check out a circus-themed puppet show, and meet the live animals behind the myths (including a bearded dragon and giant African frog). Sounds pretty fantastic(al) to us! Sat. Event details

Juneteenth Celebration
Head to the California African American Museum (CAAM) to celebrate the anniversary of June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger declared that Texas’s enslaved people were free. Bring your picnic blankets and enjoy an afternoon at CAAM with DJ sets by Francesca Harding and family activities for all to enjoy, including a make-your-own-mask workshop and a freedom drum circle. Sat. Event details

Petersen Block Party
For the car-loving dad, stop by the Petersen Automotive Museum for a family-friendly pre-Father’s Day party, featuring a one-of-a-kind vehicle display, educational activities, live music and more. The occasion marks the 25th anniversary of the museum and promises to be a celebration of all things cars. Vroom, vroom! Sat. Event details

Daddy-Daughter Dance

Baking Bash at Play Vista Farmers Market
Look for Madame Chocolat in this farmers market’s KidZone. The zany, French-trained clown (think pink hair and a tutu) will bake a “magic cake” with kids. Like our other favorite kid-friendly markets, this location also has live music and plenty of prepared foods to satisfy the fam. Sat. Event details

Worth the Drive

OC Night Market
Sure, there’s more than 200 vendors, plus an Art walk, dance competitions, eating contests and live music. But the real reason to check out this three-day event? Uni-corn: a colorful, rainbow twist on traditional Mexican street corn that tastes as good as it looks. Fri.-Sun. Event details
