The original “rush-hour” confection is having a renaissance, and Union Station is taking guests into the center of the movement at the 2nd annual DTLA Donut Festival at Union Station’s South Patio. The momentously mouthwatering event will showcase the donut in all its many forms: plain, glazed and filled; traditional; and new wave. Guests can stroll through the “Hole Donut Marketplace”—a dozen donut vendors from L.A.’s old school cult favorites to trendy fashion-forward pastries featuring everything from scrumptious rings, crullers and long johns to fabulous fritters. Amazon’s Treasure Truck & Baby Registry

Free public star parties are held monthly at Griffith Observatory with the assistance of volunteers from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society, the Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers, and The Planetary Society. They are a chance for the whole family to look at the sun, moon, visible planets, and other objects, to try out a variety of telescopes, and to talk to knowledgeable amateur astronomers about the sky and their equipment. Please be aware that the astronomers and telescope demonstrators must cut off the line for each telescope to enable all viewing to be completed by 9:45 p.m. Sat. Event details.

The annual REDCAT International Children’s Film Festival returns with exhilarating short-film programs to enchant moviegoers of all ages. Creations will include a buttery soft pretzel from the San Diego Pretzel Company served open faced with Caramel Swirl Plush Puffs Marshmallows, drizzles of salted caramel sauce, and toffee bits. Another has a waffle from Valley Village’s Steampunk Coffeebar & Kitchen oozing with almond & peanut butters, & Vanilla Bean Marshmallows.
