This weekend kicks off a whole week off for Thanksgiving for many of LA’s school kids—luckily there’s loads to do this weekend and all week long. It’s also World Peace Day on Friday, so we zeroed in on things that are full of gratitude, peace, sharing and together time. Like making garlands of gratitude, attending Remembrance Day, being entranced by Enchanted Lights, relaxing by a campfire or loads of opportunities to do art together. Barnsdall Family Art Sunday
On Sunday the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation offers a free art workshop for the whole family. Each week features an art project from a different part of the world; this week it’s making Navajo rug designs from the USA. Sun. Event details.

Known as the twisted sister of the Rose Parade, the Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade has become famous for its eccentric and irreverent satire. This awesomely offbeat parade is loads of fun for even those who don’t love a traditional parade. Sun. Event details.
Enchanted: Forest of Light at Descanso
This interactive, nighttime, one-mile walk through 10 lighting displays in Descanso Gardens is spectacular. It’s fun for the youngest of kids and delights visiting relatives. Sun. Event details.

La Belle, Lost in the World of the Automaton
This telling of Beauty and the Beast trades the castle, forest and provincial town for a wondrous setting on a steamship inhabited by a living mechanical man. La Belle tells the story with elegant puppets, animatronics and an endless stream of visual effects. Sun. Event details.
Journey to Oz
