The weather is cooling off, a hint of fall is in the air, and fests and fairs abound this weekend involving pumpkins, sporty fun, books and storytelling, German revelry, and a home town celebration in Manhattan Beach. We’ve also got stunt pets starring in the always amazing Popovich Comedy Pet Theater and good old-fashioned fun at the 19th Annual Pioneer Day in Chatsworth. Arts Festival: Sports Extravaganza!
Westside Children’s Center hosts its annual fund-raising Arts Festival. This year it adopts the theme Sports Extravaganza. Visitors can expect food trucks, art activities, the LA Galaxy Street Team, music, bounce houses, and all kinds of sports-themed activities. Sun., 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Popovich Comedy Pet Theater
Performing pets, a juggling host, stunts and skits – it’s all part of the World Famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater, during which cats and dogs – all rescued stray animals – wow the crowds with their awesome showmanship.  Fri., 7:30 pm and Sat., 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm; $25-$35. 3 & up. Event details.

Snow White at Theatre West
On October 1st, Theatre West begins its autumn production of the fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The theater’s non-threatening, interactive musicals take place each Saturday through December. Sat, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. $10-$12. Ages 3-9. Event details.

West Hollywood Book Fair
Something wordy for all ages – that’s the promise of the West Hollywood Book Fair, which offers 13 stages, 150 exhibitors, special author guests, and live entertainment. Toddlerbaloo

Manhattan Beach Home Town Fair
Grown ups can take in arts and crafts vendors and live entertainment, and kids will want to head to Kid Country, which offers pony rides, a petting zoo, exotic animal shows, a giant 50-ft slide, and circus performances throughout the weekend. Montrose Oktoberfest
Montrose kicks off autumn with its annual Oktoberfest event, featuring authentic German food, midway games, carnival rides, live entertainment, and fun contests like Best-Dressed Dog and the search for youngsters to crown Master and Little Miss Oktoberfest. 19th Annual Pioneer Day
