Ice Cream is having a moment! While cupcakeries are close at an astonishing clip, Los Angeles is discovering cool treats at an unprecedented rate. It’s about time – our weather calls out for icy goodness year round. Here are our favorite brand new places to get something spectacularly cold in these dog days of summer.  A couple are so new they’re still putting on the finishing touches to open ASAP, so get ready to be the first to try them.

SweetXO

With ice cream in flavors that seem imagined by 5 year-olds on a Saturday morning (Frosted Flake, Lucky Charms, Glazed Donut and Circus Animal), fro-yo with more toppings than you can imagine, and frozen popcorn (yes, specially made and dipped popcorn stays crunchy when frozen) available on it’s own or as an icy treat topping, this shop is heaven for those with a sweet tooth. What you’ll appreciate is the fact that the toppings are serve-yourself in candy-machine crankable style – no open buckets for grubby little hands. Germ phobic moms rejoice! Oh, and our kid tasters said to mention that the color changing spoons are “the coolest thing ever.”

We all scream: For the frozen popcorn in any flavor. And of course, anything you can eat with a color changing spoon.

SweetXO has 5 locations, but only the Agoura Hills and Manhattan Beach stores carry the frozen popcorn. Check online for locations and hours.
