If you’ve ever strolled through the children’s departments of Nordstrom or Barney’s, chances are you’ve spotted Culver City mom Sawako Yamauchi’s fabulous kids’ fashion line, Miki Miette. Full of comfy, colorful basics that ooze California cool, Miki Miette now has a flagship store of its very own in Culver City and we couldn’t be more excited.  Read on to get the scoop on the newest fashion hub for the small set.

How Miki Miette Began
Miki Miette owner, Sawako Yamauchi, had been working as a fashion designer and industry consultant in womenswear and menswear for 12 years, logging crazy hours and enduring lots of stress—as moms everywhere can relate. When Yamauchi found out she was pregnant with her son, Grey, she decided to shift that energy and start a tiny collection she could pour her love into and grow organically. Since Miki Miette’s inaugural season in 2012, the line has taken on a life of its own being picked up by two of the biggest department stores on the planet.  And now that it has it’s own local flagship, we can see the whole collection, anytime and every season.

Kid-Tested, Parent Approved
Known for quality clothing that both kiddos and parents adore, Miki Miette has become a go-to line for thoughtful design and signature Cali style. Kids themselves love the brand because fabrics are super soft, comfy and designed with their active lifestyles in mind. Think twirl-perfect dresses for girls and plenty of rock-holding pockets for boys.

Parents quickly become big fans because the line is durable, stylish and boutique. In fact, as tots are getting more adventurous with their overall style, Yamauchi says parents are leaning away from mass produced products to help set their kids apart. The trend in kids clothes has been for parents looking to support smaller businesses (like Miki Miette) for extra special pieces—a trend Yamauchi is grateful for. She also hopes her new Culver City flagship will become a true community destination that offers kids’ activities, pop-ups and (much needed) wine and cheese nights for mamas.

Spring Tips For Tiny Tots
So what pint-sized pieces should fashion-forward parents invest in for spring? Mixing and matching fun colors and prints is totally where it’s at. Miki Miette jumpers are the ultimate one and done outfits for girls and come in a variety of shades so pretty she’ll find a fave no matter her current color craze. For the dapper little dudes in your life, it’s all about hoodies. LA’s gorgeous weather allows kiddos to wear them all the way through spring and summer; they’re perfect for those nights with a chill in the air.

And Tips for Mama, Too
When you have the ear of someone with spectacular style, it would be irresponsible not to ask for her advice on how to combine an active parent lifestyle with looking effortlessly chic. Here’s what she told us: Yamauchi’s own “LA mom uniform” consists of a few great pairs of jeans from brands like Joe’s Jeans and Hudson, tees from Helmut Lang and NSF, distressed leather mid-height boots from Rag & Bone and an oversized sweater or distressed sweatshirt from NSF or Zadig + Voltaire. This is her go-to look because it’s easy to dress up or down, taking her from preschool pick-up to a meeting to a dinner date. The less fuss the better!

Easy peasy and beautiful, just like her kids clothes.

Stay tuned to the Miki Miette calendar upcoming events; they’re planning photo sessions, crafting activities, brand specific pop ups and more.
