The kids are begging to visit Shamu, stay sand-covered on the beach, and roast s’mores past their bedtimes. You know the benefits of keeping them endlessly entertained, but also crave your own time, like a hot stone massage or plowing through that stack of gossip magazines by the pool with an umbrella drink (or two). Is blending everyone’s demands into one fabulous family vacation just wishful thinking? Definitely not at Paradise Point Resort & Spa, one of San Diego’s awesome family-friendly resorts.
What and Where:
Lushly-landscaped, Paradise Point is almost completely surrounded by water, which allows families to feel like they’re on a tropical island vacation versus a city break. Through the birds of paradise, palm trees and other greenery, explore this 44-acre property on foot, bike, or boat. But while your family, in theory, would be completely fine staying parked at Paradise Point, you should venture off the island. Sea World is literally right next door. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo are 15 minutes away. You get the picture.
Dive into one of the five swimming pools (one is adults only). Work off umbrella drinks in the state-of-the-art fitness center, or swing (not too high) clubs on the 18-hole putting golf course. Or go outside: There’s a marina full of boats, kayaks, and jet skis waiting on the water. Lounge on the one mile of sandy beach encircling the resort.
Enjoy a lagoon, garden or bay view from any of the 462 rooms, decorated with Balinese influences. Upgrade to a bungalow or suite complete with dining room tables, wet bars, and separate living rooms are in bungalows and suites. Every room has marble bathrooms as well as hard-wired and wireless internet for you to feel guiltless about emailing those jet skiing pictures to jealous friends and relatives.
For the Kiddos:
Ah, the best part… there’s a kids club! Offered during spring break and summer, the Island Adventure Club hosts arts and crafts, treasure hunts throughout the property, and much more to keep the little ones entertained while you enjoy some spa time or a rare date night at Baleen, the resort’s waterfront restaurant. Or, get your spa time in (and earn points for mother of the year) by booking in a mother-kid spa experience. Yes, kids ages 11 and under can be treated to ice cream mani/pedis, massages, and more. You can even enjoy side-by-side massages. Ah, so cute.
Paradise Point is also an eco-friendly resort. So, when you’re finished with your poolside reading, remember to toss those magazines in with the recycling.
