For many kids in L.A., this is the last weekend of summer before school starts up! The sky isn’t falling, but it will look like it is this weekend with these bright meteors streaking across the sky. It’s a great way to send off summer, with a fabulous (and educational) reason to stay up super late with some ice cream or s’mores and a sleeping bag out on the lawn…The Perseids are considered by many to be the year’s best shower, and often peak at 50+ meteors per hour.
Fun fact: These typically fast and bright meteors radiate from a point in the constellation Perseus the Hero. And you’ll be a hero to your kids when you suggest that they stay up super late this weekend to stargaze! (You don’t need to know Perseus to watch the shower because the meteors appear in all parts of the sky.)
