LA kids are lucky to have year-round sunshine, making every day a perfect park day. But sometimes too much of a good thing means you’ll leave the park with a mini-lobster if you’re not hyper vigilant with the sunscreen. Read on to discover 9 awesome shady playgrounds from the Valley to the Beach that make playtime on a hot, sunny day, super cool—literally.

Playa Vista Sports Park

This has rather standard shade over the play structures, but what makes this shaded playspace a pick is the extras. It’s enclosed and has a security guard present, so you always feel safe. It’s a 15 minute walk (or under 5 minute drive) from the Runway at Playa Vista which has kid pleasing poke along with ice cream, coffee and pizza if you play until lunchtime and a movie theater if you decide it’s too hot to be out, even in the shade. And if the sun ducks behind a cloud and you need more outside adventuring, you are seconds from the Ballona Wetlands.
