LA kids are lucky to have year-round sunshine, making every day a perfect park day. But sometimes too much of a good thing means you’ll leave the park with a mini-lobster if you’re not hyper vigilant with the sunscreen. Read on to discover 9 awesome shady playgrounds from the Valley to the Beach that make playtime on a hot, sunny day, super cool—literally.

North Hollywood Recreation Center

The playground at this large NOHO park is dotted with dozens of small green canopies that cover the slides and climbing structures like leaf-less trees. The park's real trees also offer plenty of cool spots to run in the grass and pockets of shade along the dirt, walking path. If you still need to escape the heat, pack along your swimsuits and let your little divers take a cool dip in the rec center pool.
