LA kids are lucky to have year-round sunshine, making every day a perfect park day. But sometimes too much of a good thing means you’ll leave the park with a mini-lobster if you’re not hyper vigilant with the sunscreen. Read on to discover 9 awesome shady playgrounds from the Valley to the Beach that make playtime on a hot, sunny day, super cool—literally.

Gates Canyon Park

It's impossible to miss the bright yellow canopies spreading some blissful shade over this colorful playground. The play structures are universally accessible, which makes this the perfect spot for kids of all ages and abilities to enjoy some playtime on a hot day in the valley (who are we kidding, every day is hot here!). While the majority of the space is covered by the canopies, the swings are not, so make sure to come early in the day if you have a swing lover. The park also features covered picnic benches, and plenty of grassy space shaded by trees for your little ones to run around.
