LA kids are lucky to have year-round sunshine, making every day a perfect park day. But sometimes too much of a good thing means you’ll leave the park with a mini-lobster if you’re not hyper vigilant with the sunscreen. Read on to discover 9 awesome shady playgrounds from the Valley to the Beach that make playtime on a hot, sunny day, super cool—literally.

Roxbury Park

This recently renovated playground takes the cake when it comes to keeping your little adventurers cool as cucumbers. Both of the two large play areas, including the swings, are fully covered by the large blue canopies, while the small sandpit that features a water table and sand diggers, is protected by the natural shade of several trees. The sprawling grass area is also dotted with dozens of trees, perfect for a picnic after playtime. Despite all the shade, if you're still in need of a break from the sunshine, take a quick trip inside the Roxbury Park Community Center where you'll find lounge chairs, immaculate restrooms, and even a mini library, all blissfully air conditioned.
