You’ve finally finished raiding their pumpkins of all the good stuff; it’s just a sad mess of Dum-dums and red and white peppermints down there now. Maybe a lowly box of raisins. So why the need to bridge the gap between the Halloween throw down and the sugar showdown that is November through December? Because we found a new spot that’s free of corn syrup and artificial offenders, that’s bursting with gummies and caramels and it’s hiding right between the Macy’s and Nordstrom. A Real Treat has popped up at the Westside Pavilion, and it’s putting the can back in candy.
Move Over Cotton, We See Candy
It’s clothes, not candy, you’ve got on the brain as you wander through the mall. So you walk in the bookstore and the whole family gasps. Candy? Inside Jaxx Boutique? And not just any candy, it’s candy free of artificial colors, flavors, or high fructose anything. All natural, all the time. In fact, what you’ve stumbled upon is SoCal’s first all natural candy shop. Drop your jaws, your jack-o-lanterns, your holiday shopping lists. Actually bring the list. Just come.
Course. Course it was a mom who planted the all-natural flag and flew it. The first of its kind, and we get right here, in West LA. Vanessa Hughes, a mom with a self proclaimed mouth full of sweet teeth, wanted some natural candy options for her kindred candy spirited kid. But no such thing existed. So she did what any mom would do. Cast a national and local net, fastidiously procured artisanal, all natural delicacies, branded a boutique, and opened up an artificial free candy store. Innovation in the water? There might just be.
Kids Allergies Making You Nuts?
Welcome to candy Xanadu. The whole store is peanut free. Shelves, bins, and bushels full of all kinds of allergen-free fun, in fact. If you’ve got a kid who doesn’t jive with milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy bean, gluten, or the un-kosher, you can bring that kid to this candy store and let them act, well, like a kid in a candy store. Celiac friendly fare galore. Like the wind, kids. Fly free. Green light go.
So, What’s Good Here?
Eh hem, where to begin. Let the candy legend be your guide. As cute as it is clever, it hand delivers your favorite sweet treat and assigns it an artificial free option. Junior Mint devotees will dive into the Sweet’s Dark Chocolate Mints. Sour Gummy Worm addicts can try the Squirmy Worms. For every favorite, there’s an all-natural alternative. Come and taste. The party’s just getting started.
Speaking of Parties…Do They Do Birthday Parties?
And weddings, showers, bar/bat mitzvahs. Can you say candy buffet? Trust us. Your kids can.
Yes You Can(dy)
The liberation of it! The Hughes family has done their homework, and with all due respect, we get to cheat off their paper. All the sour candy sans refined sugar, caramels handmade in the heartland – locally & nationally, they’ve canvassed our vast candyland in search of delicacies au natural. The result? A pick and mix paradise that popped up in the heart of the health haven that is the Westside, A Real Treat, has nested right at home. Bring your allergies and your intolerances. And finally, have your candy, and eat it too.
