One of the most beloved summer traditions since launching in 1880—the San Diego County Fair is back and better than ever on June 7-July 4! This year’s Fair theme, “Get Out There!”, inspires your family’s sense of outdoor adventure with everything from Ferris wheel rides with ocean views, fabulous concerts, and animal shows to homemade crafts, festive farm fun, and mouthwatering food. If you’re ready to let the good times roll while staying on budget, we have ways to save you money on everything from admission and food to rides and parking. After all, you should leave the fair with full hearts, not empty wallets.
How to Save on Admission Tickets to the San Diego County Fair
Save big on admission with these free and discount deals on tickets. While it’s easier for most families to purchase tickets online for the date they want to attend, tickets will also be available at the gate. Please note that the fair has moved to a cashless experience for admission and parking to help avoid wait times at the gate. There will only be 60,000 tickets for sale per fair day and certain days can sell out, so be sure to plan ahead.
Midweek:
Tickets are less expensive if you visit during the week from Wed.-Thurs. They’re more expensive on Fri.-Sun. (The fair is closed Mon. & Tues. in June.)
Kids Day:
Kids 12 and under are free every Friday! Ages 5 and under are free every day.

How to Save on Ride Passes to the San Diego County Fair
From the carousel and Ferris wheel to roller coasters and slides, there’s no shortage of thrills with the wide variety of rides at the fair. The Fun Zone features 39 exciting rides and is geared more towards older kids and adults while the Kids Zone features more than 40 age-appropriate rides designed for toddlers and younger children. Whatever your comfort level, there’s something for everyone.

This year, there are two one-day contests open to anyone who’d like to enter and receive free admission to the fair in return. Pint-sized (and adult) chefs are invited to whip up their best granola bars and bring them to the fair for judging on June 15 or if you’re more the artist type, you can compete in the Nature Found Objects Art Contest on June 29. The fair has more than enough healthy eating options, but let’s be real—what you really came here for is a mind-blowing day of indulgence. From fried Oreos and fried Twinkies to funnel cakes and cheese fries, there’s infinite deliciousness to be had. We have a feeling with this year’s great outdoors theme, there may be some fried s’mores in your future as well. And no visit would be complete without a stop by Chicken Charlie’s—one of the most popular vendors at the fair. The decision of where to park never seems more important than it does at the end of a long fair day when you have tired kiddos who must hike to the car. Luckily, the fair has several options for on-site, up-close parking for a fee as well as off-site parking for free. To save moolah, you can park at nearby Torrey Pines High School free of charge and catch a shuttle to the fair entrance. Please note that parking is subject to availability so it’s highly recommended to purchase your parking in advance.
Parking Cost: $20 on-site or $15 when you buy online for General Parking (Main Gate or Solana Gate); $50 for Preferred Parking (closest to main entrance); $10 for Horsepark Parking (two miles east of the fairgrounds) with free shuttles that take you to the main entrance; or free at Torrey Pines High School with shuttles that take you to the main entrance. MLK Day is right around the corner. If you’re looking for ways to honor and serve on January 16, there’s no better place to explore Dr. King’s legacy than in his birthplace—Atlanta. With school officially canceled for this important holiday, your family can explore our city’s important Civil Rights landmarks, engage in activities and educational experiences at the city’s museums, and find ways to be of service. Let’s remember to make this a day on, as we continue to work toward Dr. King’s dream of an equitable and just world.
The King Center is a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy all year long. Their mission is to empower people to create an equitable and peaceful world through youth work, service projects, and more. To commemorate MLK Day, The King Center hosts a 10-day observance, starting January 16 with a kick off reception at Freedom Hall Atrium. They'll also host a Community Service Project that families can easily participate in. Simply drop off needed items (like socks, coats, blankets, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and more) at the King Center Freedom Hall Plaza on January 16, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park
After visiting The King Center, explore other monuments and historically important places at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park. What better way to honor Dr. King than to head to where it all started? Families can tour King's birth home, where he spent his first 12 years, Mondays through Saturdays, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Visitor Center, Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, and Freedom Hall are also all on the campus, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays. All sites are free to the public.
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights believes in justice and dignity for all and the power of people to make this idea real. They inspire visitors with immersive exhibitions, dynamic events and conversations, plus engagement and education/training programs. The Center's King Day program starts a bit early, on January 12 and runs through MLK Day (Jan. 16). It includes interactive storytimes, artist talk backs, spoken word performances, and more.
The early start for this year's event coincides with the opening of National Center for Civil & Human Rights' new King exhibit, Now is the Time. Focused on King's March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom and its 60th anniversary. The exhibit runs through Juneteenth (Jun. 19) of this year.

Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday with the Children's Museum of Atlanta and explore his life and legacy on the Stage, at the Science Bar, and in the Art Studio. Kids can also share ways they can help shape a world Dr. King would be proud of on the Dream Collaborative Mural.

Atlanta History Center Celebration
Bring the kids to the Atlanta History Center to experience hands-on activities on MLK Day, Atlanta families. Civil-rights themed trivia, crafts, performances, and a chance to simulate a Freedom Rider experience on an authentic Greyhound Bus will keep the kids engaged and learning during the visit. This event is free, and registration is recommended.
Swing by the Embry Hills Library to pick up a free Martin Luther King, Jr. craft kit (while supplies last) on January 14. Spend time with the kids putting the kit together and talking about the work of Dr. King.

Christmas Day will be here faster than you can say “Grandma’s fruitcake.” Whether you celebrate it or not, you might want an excuse to get out of the house on the big day. Yes, it’s true that most of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs shut down on Dec. 25, but between hitting the ice and finding Chicago’s best holiday light displays, festive fun is available on Christmas. However, by the end of a month filled to the brim with holiday events, you may be looking for amusements beyond seeing if Santa Claus has come to town, so we rounded up great options for all that are open, ready, and beyond excited to entertain you and yours.
It’s obviously too late in the year to enjoy the flowers, and Lightscape isn't available on Christmas Day, but Chicago Botanic Garden still draws visitors with beautiful views of their ponds and (hopefully) snow-covered trees.

The McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park is not just for tourists. Anyone who digs stunning skyline views and being in the shadow of The Bean will love it here. The best part: Skating is free and open on Christmas Day. Parkway Bank Park also welcomes you to their Chicago Wolves Rink from 4-10 p.m. on Christmas Day. 4. Take a Scenic Stroll: Morton Arboretum
Morton Arboretum's grounds are open 365 days a year, and you can explore an oasis of trees and landscapes with a Children's Garden, Maze Garden, and 16 miles of hiking trails. The leaves may have found their way south for the season, but winter views on the drivable trails at the Arboretum are still a sight to behold. And although the arboretum normally comes with an entry free, they offer free admission on Dec. 25. You simply need to secure your free timed-entry pass online in advance of arrival.

6. Get in Touch With Nature: Cook County Forest Preserves
Crisp winter air can be invigorating, especially for tots. Enjoy it in the Forest Preserves of Cook County, which has 68,000 acres of land with trails for self-guided walks. Admission is free and locations vary; please check the website for more information.
Polar bears, giraffes, and lions are waiting for your company on Christmas Day. Brookfield Zoo stays open 365 days a year, and Christmas Day is one of its quieter times, so you should be able to enjoy the animals at your leisure. The Lincoln Park Zoo also stays open 365 days a year, plus admission is free.
Watch a movie old-school-style under the stars in your car at ChiTown Movies. Order popcorn, tacos, wings, pizza, kids meals, and more to be delivered to your car from the ChiTown Grille.

Merchandise Mart’s Art on theMart is the world’s largest digital art projection, appearing on the Mart’s nearly three-acre exterior facade. Get ready for the return of the Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink, now in its 25th season. This perennial event, presented by Symetra, is a signature element of Bellevue's Season of Cheer. The Downtown Ice Rink features the Seattle region’s largest seasonal ice skating experience–with more than 9,000 square feet of real ice. The best part? The rink is covered and open-air, allowing for safe, all-weather skating. Other highlights include a heated viewing area, on-site concessions and a series of special events throughout the holiday season, like Football Sundays and an Apple Cup Skate Night the day after Thanksgiving. Advance tickets are a must to reserve your ice skating session (especially on busy weekends and holidays) and ticket prices are included in the admission price.

Who needs to go ice skating when you can go sock skating with your Littles at the Seattle Children's Museum? Part of the city's downtown Winterfest celebration, Seattle Children's Museum will host a special Winterfest-themed exhibit all winter long. Not only can the kids skate on a real synthetic ice rink (don't forget your socks!), they can also build snow people, grab a drink or pastry from the nearby carts, and then enjoy them all by the play fire pits. Sounds like an idyllic winter afternoon to us. This exciting winter experience is included with admission.

Occidental Square Pop-Up Ice Rink
For one weekend only, families can enjoy this pop-up ice skating rink in downtown Seattle. Free for everyone, the ice rink will be filled with skaters of all ages and abilities. If you've got your own skates, bring them along. If not, they'll have skates on hand to borrow. Just remember to bundle up—this rink is totally outside.
Open air. Real ice. An unbeatable marina view. That's what you get when you head north to Everett to skate at their outdoor pop-up ice skating rink this season in the Seattle region. There will be holiday lights to make it festive, music to get you in the spirit, and fire pits around the area to warm your fingers when it's time for a break. Concessions will also be available. Holiday Magic Ice Skating Rink
Add Holiday Magic to your winter when you bring the family to this pop-up, outdoor ice skating rink near Seattle that's part of the wintery experience at the state fairgrounds. Holiday music will be piped in for your enjoyment as you work on your crossovers and spins. You'll need admission to Holiday Magic to access the rink and advanced tickets for skating that are date specific. Skate rentals are included in the price but you bring the warm hat and fuzzy mittens. Sounds fair to us. Kids must be at least age 2 to skate.

Families living in the South Sound can skate their holiday cares away on the popular Oly on Ice rink. This beloved pop-up rink returns on Nov. 18 to Isthmus Park in downtown Olympia. With low prices starting at just $5 and cheap skate days on Mondays and Tuesdays, you can see why this rink is a family fave. Purchase your tickets in advance online to reserve your spot. Free public parking is available at the two lots to the immediate east and west of the ice rink. Free street parking can be found along Capitol Lake. During evening and weekend hours, additional free parking is available at all City of Olympia managed lots and metered spots. There are also pay-to-park lots neighboring the rink.

Skate at these Seattle ice skating rinks all year long
Seattle's newest kid on the block, the Kraken Community Iceplex, is a winner with families. Not only can you and the kids find ice skating lessons for everyone (you too, parents) and birthday bash packages here, but the daily public skate sessions are a great way to engage in your new favorite pastime. Saving a spot is easy to do (and highly recommended for popular days like weekends and school holidays). Then it's as simple as showing up a bit early to rent skates before hitting the ice. When you're done, head to the 32 Bar & Grill to warm up with poutine or maybe a fresh salad. The kids menu is dead on for reliable faves. And families can always grab a cup of the good stuff or hot cocoa for the kids at the Starbucks, if you're pressed for time.
Insider Tip: If you can't be at the game, try the second best seat in the house—the Iceplex—to watch the Kraken play on game night.
Sno-King Ice Arenas now has three locations and all are open for public skating year-round. Public skating times at each rink vary from day to day and week to week. Be sure to check the online schedule and reserve your spot (a must) to make your family skating plans. The price doesn't include skate rental, but everything you need to glide into the winter season is available to rent there, including skate rentals, walkers and seals. In addition to public skate, you can sign your kids up for ice hockey, figure skating lessons, or throw a birthday bash for a small group of friends. Sno-King offers holiday hockey camps at all three locations for kids who want to rule the ice.
Holiday Ice Skating: Add a little holiday pep in your public ice skating session when you attend Sno King's Sno-Skate Lane. Offered at all three locations, from December 17 through January 1, 2023, it's a chance for kids to see Santa, play games, take a few photos, and more. Registration is required.
More serious skaters should head a little further up I-5 to the Lynnwood Ice Center. Skating lessons begin at age 4 and skate rentals are available for tiny toddler size 6 feet all the way up to men's size 14. The rink does tend to be a bit on the cold side–it is an ice rink after all. Those parents who will be sitting on the concrete stands will want to bring a blanket to stay warm. Weekday sessions usually aren’t all that busy, but tickets are still required in advance, as the front desk is unable to take payments.
This is a nice option for families in the South Sound. With more than 66,000 square-feet of ice and fun features like an epic sound system and black light skate nights, you can skate your way to family fun any time of year. This rink rents skates for $5 in sizes as small as a toddler 6, plus kids ages 3 and younger skate for free. Helmets are also available for a $2 rental fee and walkers are just $5 for little learners. For those with thin blood, the cafe serves up all your favorite hot foods and beverages and is a welcome respite from the cold concrete seats at the rink. Need a break from the ice? The putt putt course out front and batting cages around the side are also fun and not terribly crowded.
Good to Know: Remember to reserve your public skate spot in advance.
Although it's a bit of a drive, Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma is going all out for the winter season with Ice Light public skate sessions. This experience opens Dec. 1 and runs through Dec. 31. While you're skating 'round the rink, marvel at the more than 35,000 twinkling lights and animated displays your kids will love. A singing Christmas tree show is part of the fun, and the snow flurries falling from the "sky" add a bit of magic to this indoor experience. Have your kids drop off a letter to old St. Nick at his special mailbox when you're done. Our favorite part is the special ice bumper cars. It's a real-life hockey puck experience that you can only find here.
Take your family ice skating outing to a whole new level when you pair it with a weekend getaway at Suncadia. Their ice skating rink is just one of the many family-focused winter happenings going on this year. From November 25 through December 14, the rink, located right next to the Lodge pool, will be open Thursdays through Mondays. It moves to daily outdoor ice skating sessions on December 15. Skate rentals are available, and when you need a break, the fire pit is the perfect place to sit and sip hot cocoa or even make s'mores (Hint: they have pre-packed kits at the Coal House Market in the Lodge).
Good to Know: Donation-based community ice skating nights are scheduled for December 6 and 13 at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8 p.m.

You can always tell the holidays are on the way when Christmas light displays start popping up around the city. Here’s where to find stunning Christmas lights in Atlanta
The million-light display at the Botanical Garden can't be beat. Family favorites include the orchestral orbs (glowing balls that blink in time with holiday classics), the tricked-out train display, and the fire pits for roasting s’mores (while mom and dad drink a cocktail from the cash adult bar). Be sure to bring a stroller for little legs, and don't miss the incredible laser light display in the orchid house. Guests can expect new twists, including a display in the Anne Cox Chambers Garden by French artist, Cédric LeBorgne and oversized sculptures from the summer sensation, Origami in the Garden.

Families can find this popular drive-thru display a new location this year. And even though it's not at Atlantic Station this year, you can expect to see the same kinds of LED-powered displays that left your whole family "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" as you made your way along the path in the past. Timed tickets ensure everyone has enough time to drive slowly through, taking it all in. Plan to grab yours in advance (you save $10 per carload if you do). 3. Atlantic Station Christmas Lights - Celebration at the Station
Snow in Atlanta? You bet—when you head to Atlantic Station for the free nightly celebration that's all about spreading holiday cheer. The whole thing kicked off on November 19 with a tree lighting and holiday disco. But if you missed it, you can still bring the kids to see these towering Christmas lights, Atlanta families. They'll be on nightly as part of a light and snow show (we told you) that go along with a video. Pair it with a night of ice skating around the ribbon and you've got yourself a real holiday tradition in the making.
World of Illumination is back with a breathtaking drive-through Christmas light experience kids and families will love. Consider it the ultimate holiday activity for all ages—from tots to grandparents, and everyone, in between. Although families could enjoy this display last year at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, this year you can only find this dazzling show at Six Flags White Water in Marietta. Reindeer Road will feature millions of colorful lights and animated displays synchronized to holiday music. Plan to slowly make your way along the one-mile-long display in about 25-30 minutes—the perfect amount of time for families with small kids. They'll stay riveted so you can enjoy the show too.

5. IllumiNights: A Chinese Lantern Festival - Zoo Atlanta Christmas Lights
When it comes to Atlanta Christmas lights that never disappoint, add Zoo Atlanta's noteworthy lantern display to the list. Returning as an area favorite, IllumiNights is a nighttime lantern wonderland celebrating the beauty of the natural world. Stroll the Zoo after dark to be inspired by glowing, oversized animal lanterns—some up to 20 feet tall—depicting many of the planet's most charismatic creatures. Each lantern is made and hand-painted by Chinese artisans and will totally fascinate your family.
Synchronized lights set to your favorite holiday songs. It's the stuff Christmas dreams are made of, and it's what you'll find at this brand new drive through Atlanta Christmas light experience that opens on November 18. 7. Lakeside Lights at Margaritaville Lanier Islands
Go on a magical walk through an amazing light show set to festive seasonal music. Unlike your typical holiday light show, this one is a dazzling lighting extravaganza, and you can take a break along the way for cocktails, hot chocolate, and s'mores. But we think the kids will love it if you pair your light viewing with a trip to Snow Island, where the whole fam can go tubing, ice skating, and hop on some seriously fun carnival rides.

There's a reason this display in Pine Mountain is considered one of the best in the world. With 10 million lights spread out over 2,500 acres this year—Fantasy in Lights' 30th—promises to be the best one yet. Families can walk or drive through the display, taking in all that holiday cheer along the way. If you ask us, this Christmas light experience is worth the 90 minute trek from Atlanta. Even if it's just to see this year's newest addition—Celebration Lake. It features 30 dancing trees, one for each year the display has been open. Don’t forget to hit the Christmas Village before you head back home. Filled with ornaments, treats, and the Big Guy himself (photos available), the kids will love the chance to stretch their legs and marinate in the merriment.
Holiday Lights are back at Brook Run Park, and this year's theme is Candy Land—talk about kid appeal! Starting December 1, families can walk through this display that features 85,000 twinkling lights shaped as ice cream cones, gumball machines, chocolate volcano cake, milkshakes, and more. There's even an ice cream truck you'll be able to walk through (anyone else thinking photo op?)
Insider Tip: This display goes live December 1st, when the mayor flips the switch at 6 p.m. Come early to enjoy hot cocoa, candy, and character appearances starting at 4 p.m.
Another walk-thru light display option for families with Littles who can't go too far, Stone Mountain decks the halls with millions of lights, and offers plenty of options for keeping the kids entertained—from taking a ride on the train (decorated for the holidays and rockin’ some jolly tunes) to taking in a visit with Santa, Rudolph, or the Bumble. Get there early and take a ride on Atlanta's only snow-covered slope. We're looking forward to the Christmas light show and fireworks finale at the end of the day. And the new Christmas Drone Show sounds simply amazing. Santa arrives each night by sleigh at the tree lighting.

11. Lights of Life at Life University
Talk about some holiday spirit. This incredible light exhibit is a zero-profit event for Life University in Marietta that boasts the tallest Santa and his sleigh display in the Southeast. New displays are added yearly, and the entire arrangement is unique each year. Be sure to hit the petting zoo, train rides, pony rides, and visit with Santa before you leave, but you might want to wait until after driving-through the light exhibit to tell the littles. You won’t be able to keep them in the car, otherwise.
Experience all the warmth and charm of a Southern Family Christmas at Pettit Creek Farms! Take a lovely drive or hayride through more than a mile of beautiful Christmas lights. You only need to pay for one option, either the hayride or the drive thru. Experience a nativity (animals on Saturday) and meet the animals at the petting zoo. Getting chilly? Warm up by the fire and enjoy s’mores, funnel cakes, hot chocolate, and more from a convenient concession stands.
Tune your radio to 107.7 FM and prepare to rock around the Christmas tree. The display runs 6–10 pm nightly. This generous family hosts fundraisers year-round for their favorite charity, and the holiday season is no different. Donations of money, pet food, and supplies are accepted on behalf of Angels Among Us Animal Rescue.
With 1 million lights, this is the biggest residential Christmas lights display in Georgia. Nightly shows run from Sunday, November 27, through Sunday, January 1, 2023, from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. The family encourages visitors to park across the street at the Influencers Church and walk to see the lights. Also, please leave pets at home.

What do Star Wars and Hanukkah have in common? Only one of the best inflatable and lights displays in Atlanta. And it isn't just one house. Head to Springfield Drive in Dunwoody to get a boost of Hanukkah spirit.
After Thanksgiving, you can cruise past this elaborate, annual display to see festive holiday lights, animations, and synchronization (turn your car radio to 101.9 FM to hear the music).
With more than 100,000 lights and a 35-foot Frosty the Snowman, this family decorates in super-size. Free to drive by or walk past, the Portwood family is collecting packs of new socks for ages 6-13 for the Paulding County Sheriff's Office. You'll find them with the lights on November 25-December 10, from Sunday through Thursday, 6–10 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, from 6–11 p.m.
This Cumming neighborhood lights up its streets and homes in a spectacular way one night in December, raising money for local causes. This year's event date has yet to be released, but you can check Facebook or Instagram for updates. Hit it on the magical night of lights for a chance to see Santa, a live nativity scene, falling snow, and hot cocoa.

"HOLIDAY MAGIC" is a free nightly Atlanta holiday light show, put on annually by the Woodruff family, featuring dancing Christmas lights, inflatables, and special effects synchronized to holiday music. With a history of doing a musical tribute to Prince, this may be the funkiest family light show around. The show will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving and run nightly from 6 p.m. to midnight through January.
This Stone Mountain family has been decorating their home for over 25 years with only the help of family, friends, and neighbors, and they’re proud to provide a “whole LOT of Christmas” each year. With a Christmas tree forest, snowflake lane, gingerbread land, North Pole Cafe, Disney section, nativity, and Santa, this family endeavor is big enough to inspire even the worst Grinch to string a light or two. Check hours of operation and details on their Facebook page when planning your trip. Admission is free, but donations are accepted for a charity of the family’s choice each year.

For over 20 years, this family in Fayetteville has put on a Christmas light extravaganza, complete with an operating Ferris wheel and thousands of lights. There is no admission, visitors must remain in their vehicles for safety, and donations for March of Dimes and Toys for Tots are welcome. The Gaddy family keeps the lights on from Thanksgiving through January 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This crowd-favorite private home has thousands of lights; you’ll want to put a trip to see it on your winter bucket list. The display will be nightly from Friday, November 20 through December 31, from 6 p.m.-10 pm. Please keep in mind that in the event of severe weather (wind, heavy rain, or snow), they may not have the display. Check their Facebook page by 4 p.m. daily for any weather-related changes.
In addition to the lights, the family holds an annual holiday food drive for the community food pantry at First Baptist Duluth. Drop your non-perishable items in the bin at the driveway's end.
This home display features over 70,000 commercial LED Christmas lights and will kick off on Thanksgiving at 6 p.m. Check their Facebook page for hours of operation and up-to-the-minute information. All donations from this show go to The Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter.

From malls and parks to drive-worthy experiences, here are the best places to take photos with Santa in San Diego—some will even pose with your pet
There are so many fun, family activities happening this time of year, whether you’re shopping for your Christmas tree in San Diego, wandering around town to catch all the must-see holiday lights nearby, or seeing which favorite holiday show should be on your wish-list this year. Of course don’t forget to make time to mingle with good ole St. Nick. The sun might be out (with no snow in sight) but Santa Claus is coming to town, and chances are, you’re looking for some memory-making photo ops. From malls and parks to an entire village dedicated to the man, we’ve rounded up our must-go spots to see Santa near San Diego.
If you haven't ever done it, we definitely recommend heading up to SkyPark at Santa’s Village, at least once in your lifetime. The whole village comes into its own and lights up for a jolly good time. From breakfast with Santa to tea with Mrs. Claus, you can get as little or as much Santa in your life as you want. For photo-ops, make a reservation online to save your spot and prevent disappointments. Of course, that’s not all—there’s ice skating and a dazzling light show that takes place at the park as well. You might even get snow while your here—a true Christmas miracle for SoCal residents.
Capture the magic of the holiday season in a photo with Seaport’s resident Santa Claus in a delightful San Diego waterfront setting on the harbor. Families can strike a pose with jolly Kris Kringle—in front of the Chris Harvey Gallery—no appointment necessary. This spot also has 54 retail shops—get your Christmas shopping done while you're here.
The San Diego Zoo's holiday celebration, Jungle Bells (Dec. 9-Jan. 1), has all the Christmas fixings you might be looking for: holiday photos with Dr. Harry Lion, Churchill Polar Bear, and Sydney Koala, a juggling Jack Frost, live holiday music, acrobatic elves, strolling Holiday Troubadours, and, of course, photos with the big guy. You'll find Santa (and his factory), in the Lost Forest—at the Price Education Center, to be specific.

Old St. Nick is ditching the heavy red suit and will be breaking out his board shorts and Hawaiian shirt for the 15th annual Surfin’ Santa celebration at Seaport Village. If your family would like to take some not-so-wintery photos with the jolly surfer himself, he'll be hanging in his lifeguard tower, ready to snap a few poses. Photos with Santa start at 1:45 p.m. Named one of the 10 best Santa sightings by USA Today, the event begins at noon with live music and entertainment
Every Sat. and Sun. through Dec. 18, you can stop by to see Santa at The Forum Carlsbad. Find St. Nick in the Garden Area between YETI and Allbirds, and bring your camera. Visits are complimentary. Guests can also enjoy holiday characters on Sat. and strolling carolers on Sun. from 1-4 p.m.
Children within all spectrums of special needs and their families are welcome to visit Santa during Santa Cares Day at The Shoppes at Carlsbad. The event takes place before the mall opens on Dec. 4 for a sensory-friendly, less hectic event to experience the time-honored tradition of a visit and photos with Santa. This unique opportunity is specially designed to create a comfortable and inviting environment so all children can feel comfortable with Santa. Reservations are encouraged.
Santa is available for photos throughout the month (beginning Nov. 17-Dec. 24) but on special nights, he'd love to meet your favorite four-legged pal. Westfield UTC invites families to enjoy the the special Santa Paws Pet Night, a fun, furry twist on the time-honored tradition of taking photos with the man in the big red suit—although everyone is welcome, even without pets. The mall will also collect donations these evenings on behalf of The Humane Society. Reservations recommended.

Grab your little hockey fans and head to this ice skating rink nestled outside the home of the L.A. Kings. Your skating tykes can imagine they're scoring one for the home team at the arena while you whirl around the rink and admire the twinkling lights of the 66-foot Christmas tree towering in the center of the ice.
