Who knows which baby bath toys are the best better than other parents (who have actually used them)?

Bathtime is one of our favorite times to bond with our little ones. It’s usually at the end of the day, after dinner adventures and before bed, so it’s just the kind of wind-down we and our kiddos need. Warm water, bubbles, and splashing (sometimes lots of splashing)—what more could you ask for? Oh, and as a bonus, it’s the perfect time for playing. Which of course means we’re on the hunt for the best baby bath toys.

Bath toys are especially fun because they offer littles a chance to experience different textures and ways to play. Plus, gone are the days of only rubber ducks and boats (though we love those!); there are so many awesome toys to choose from, specifically designed for the bath. But you don’t have to take our word for it! These are the top Amazon toys, according to reviewers. Sure, there are rubber duckies and boats, but there’s also blocks, and balls, and baby bath squirt toys, so you’re sure to find something (or somethings) that’s perfect for your little babes. We’ve got the baby bath toys parents are loving right here!

Munchkin Bath Numbers & Letters

36 floating letters and numbers in bright, kid-friendly colors!

Amazon Review: My 18 month old loves these, the first set I bought, he had thrown them all over the house and I couldn't find most of them lol, I bought a 2nd set and keep it in with his bath toys. These suction really well to my tile bath wall. When he bites on them, they do leave teeth marks that will not come out. Also the set only includes 1 of each letter and number so spelling anything isn't really possible if you need more than 1 of the same letter lol. All in all, these are decent for the price. They are pretty sturdy and haven't ripped, so you don't have to worry about you kid boring a chunk out of one. -Brandie L.

Munchkin Float & Play Bubbles

This set includes 2 fun ocean friends and two twirly rattles. The characters move freely around the bubbles, and the textured rings float!

Amazon Review: So I’m a stickler for bath toys without holes in them. I didn’t know so well for my first child who is now almost 13….. but I learned over time with my others. I bought these for my 8 month old as he’s into little noises and things for bath since he’s sitting up. When I got these they didn’t even make it into the bath for the first few weeks, he sat playing with them on the floor with his toys and loved them as is! They are perfect size, the rattle noise inside isn’t loud and obnoxious it’s actually kind of a lull soothing noise, the objects inside keep him entertained even still. Now that they’ve been in the bath, they haven’t leaked any water in, they float well and are fun! Happy I bought these. -Erica Mara

Amazon Review: I purchased these in a high-end shop while on withy husband. I was pumped to find the exact same product on Amazon and purchased a second set. My kids LOVE taking a warm "tub" nightly. So, these are used daily. We are going on a year and we have not had any problems with mold. I love that they are dishwasher safe. I throw them in the dishwasher once a month or so (I have always done this with bath toys). Honestly, I bet I could go longer, they never look or smell dirty. We did have one go missing and found it a few months later sitting in some standing water left in the pool out back, that did mold. So, unless you're not planning on draining your tub at all ever you should have nothing to worry about. This is a wonderful bath toy! -Huntington

One night at dinner my daughter looked up at me with her big brown eyes and said “Mommy, can you tell me how I was adopted again? You got on an airplane and flew all the way to India and then what happened?”

For adoptive parents, this conversation is all too familiar. I am a Denver mom of four, and much like all moms, I love retelling my adopted daughters about the day we met or my older children about the day they were born. The little details mean the most. My daughter Ari clung to my ponytail, smushed her little face against my cheek and wouldn’t let go. As mothers, those memories are fixated in our brain and we hold tight to them, but kids often forget those details. To preserve those precious moments, Finding Family in a Far-Away Land was born.

We adopted siblings, Priya and Ari from India when they were almost 5 and 3.5 respectively. Our older children, Conrad and Alexandra, 7 and 5 at the time also came to India. Adoption meant the completion of our family and we wanted to celebrate that moment in India. As a new family, we settled in and experienced that growth, but the biggest change was clearly for Priya and Ari.

Adults often encounter what we call “culture shock” traveling to an exotic part of the world. Imagine experiencing that nervousness and newness, but as a child and with a new family! The change can certainly be overwhelming, exciting or daunting. Most children in America have tasted ice cream, slept in a bed and splashed in a bathtub all before the age of 3. Those were brand new moments for our daughters. The first month home, Ari wanted to sleep on the floor and that was perfectly fine! She still to this day will only eat rice with her hands.

Some of the biggest changes for our girls were the cultural differences like our skin color, language, food, clothing, and mannerisms. As our daughters learned about our family’s culture, we also adopted their Indian heritage. Finding Family in a Far-Away Land is written from my daughter Priya’s perspective and in the story, she declares “Even though I left India it will forever be a part of me. No matter where I go, I will be a spicy-loving, bangle-wearing, Diwali-dancing Priya!” Teaching our children about their birth country India has bonded us in ways I never envisioned. Priya will forever be better at Bollywood dancing than me and can down food so spicy it will make you cry. I love that about her and am learning more every day!

My hope in writing Finding Family in a Far-Away Land is to empower children by sharing our story of adoption, multi-culture and diversity. Giving all children insight to what it might be like to be adopted or a part of an interracial, multicultural family is a great step in nurturing our children to be a generation of empathetic, kind, and aware adults.

Reading this story with my children has allowed opportunities for reflection, discussion and healing. I hope that it can provide those opportunities for other families too!

I gave birth to two sets of twins by Jennifer S

This still blows my mind. Both were very easy deliveries, as they were both c-sections. Round 1, I made it to 38 weeks and 2 days, my scheduled delivery was 39 weeks. My son decided he was tired of being pushed around by his sister, my water broke at 11pm on September 28, 2011and it was time to go – complete water works in the hospital parking garage, like a scene in the movies. My babies were born at 4:00 and 4:01 a.m. the next morning. Round 2 was uneventful, I made it to my scheduled c section at 38 weeks (I refused to schedule one at 39 weeks again). Babies were born and completed our family on November 13, 2013. Our current lives are much more exciting than my deliveries were!

I felt like we were both being born by Stevie M

My birthing room in my mother’s home was adorned in hanging affirmation, candles, and pictures of the women who had gone before me. In the quiet of night, a circle of loving support, including my furry guardian, held space as baby and I labored in the tub. Working together…we were both being born. In the water, he was born into the hands of his father and exceptional midwife. Completely at peace and in awe, our new family curled around each other.

Born on her due date by Carrie D

I had very subtle contractions start at 1am Monday morning (the due date). I had a scheduled appointment that morning to see how things were going, which all looked good. I came home and worked a few more hours then by lunch I could not focus anymore. The contractions were growing in strength and I knew I didn’t want to be stuck in the hospital so I hopped in the bathtub. That was amazing! Contractions were getting stronger and by 4:30p I felt like I had to get to the hospital or I’d be having the baby at home. We arrived around 5:30p, I was 7cm dilated so was admitted. After a little waiting and some progress, it was time to push! Our sweet girl was born at 10:20pm

My parents brought me the goods by Sherry B

17 Hours, at home (on purpose), no drugs, back labor (wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy), Lots of massage by my squad. Moaning, breathing, grunting, and yelling at my hubs to turn of the XBOX. Internal dialogue “I can’t do this” the very next contraction “I am a warrior” Daughter born in a birthing tub in the living room. Nursing within 20, with family surrounding. Hardest and best thing I have EVER done. My mom cooked grilled cheese and hand fed me b/c she is the best. Then my dad brought pizza which I also ate.

A stay in the NICU by Cara S

My water broke at 2:30 am, with contractions starting at 4 minutes apart. My alcoholic fiancé was passed out so I walked the dog, watched a little tv, then went to the hospital when they were 2 minutes apart. I was told immediately no pain medication because my daughter wasn’t moving. Nine hours later, they decided an emergency csection was the way to go. I was crushed, and felt like a huge failure. But when they laid her perfect little body on mine, none of that mattered. She was here. Beckett was in NICU for 10 days, the worst 10 days of my life, but the day I brought her home, it didn’t matter how she came to be here. Just that she was.

21 Baby & Toddler Feeding Tools & Tips You Need

Looking for a fun science experiment to keep your little Einsteins busy? This simple baking soda and vinegar experiment is a perfect outdoor activity and demonstrates how a chemical reaction can really get things moving. Read on to find out to discover how to make a baking soda vinegar powered steam boat.

You’ll need:

– Baking soda

– White vinegar

– Plastic bottles

– Straws

– Sharpeez (optional) for decorating the boat

– Hot glue (not pictured)

– Baby pool or bathtub (not pictured)

Step 1: Decorate your “boat.”

Take the labels off the plastic bottles and let your kids decorate their “boats” using permanent or (oil-based) paint markers. This is optional, but fun—especially if you’ve got more than one little captain at the helm.

Step 2: Drill a hole in the bottom of the boat—then put a straw in it.

Using a drill or soldering tool, make a small hole (the size of a straw circumference) in the bottom edge of your plastic bottle. Caution: Wear safety glasses—and keep kids at a distance—to make sure bits of plastic don’t fly into your eyes).

Place a three or four-inch straw into the hole so that about an inch of sticks into the bottle and the rest sticks out the back). To secure the straw so that no liquid drips out the sides, apply hot glue around the edges.

Step 3: Fill it up and watch it go!

Turn the bottle sideways, and cover the straw end with your fingertip while you pour about 1 cup of vinegar into the bottle. Then, keeping the bottle flat and the straw side up (so nothing spills out), drop a few spoonfuls of baking soda into the bottle. Make sure to keep the baking soda on one end and the vinegar on the other.

Give the bottle one quick shake, and place it quickly into your pool or tub. And it’s off!

The science of it: What’s happening?

When vinegar (an acid) meets baking soda (an alkali), they react to form a gas (carbon dioxide). This gas must escape the bottle, so it pushes out through the straw, which in turn powers your boat across the pool. Once all the gas has escaped, your boat slows down.

Step 4: Tinker with the steps (and let your kids take over!).

Now that you’ve done the experiment once, it’s time to hand over the ingredients to your kids. Let them try to figure out (on their own, hopefully!) how to get the boats moving as fast as they can. Some things kids can explore include:

Does more baking soda change how fast the boat moves?

Does more vinegar change anything?

What about how you combine the ingredients? For instance, does a quick shake help things move? Or a slow fizz?

Raising a child on the spectrum is not easy. It comes with higher demands of care and time than other children. Believe me, I know! I have four children ranging in ages from eight to 17. My youngest daughter has PDD, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, a moderate form of Autism.

She is higher functioning and very smart. She also lacks impulse control, and with that comes language that has no filters or boundaries. My daughter has taught me an incredible amount of patience and also to laugh at the silly things that happen. Laughing and finding humor in some of the awkward comments helps balance life when things get too stressful and unmanageable at times. I have spoken with other families who have children on the spectrum and we all have agreed you just have to laugh sometimes.

My daughter was taking her nightly bath one evening. Of course, I’m always right next to her in the bathroom. She asked me why I never take a bath with her. I explained to her that I am a grownup and much too big to get into the bathtub with her. I told her that if I got into the bathtub, there would be no room for her.

She had a very serious face and replied very calmly, “Oh yeah. I keep forgetting you are the size of an elephant.” I laughed. She was not trying to be mean. She was not trying to make me feel bad about myself. She was just being her. I was thankful for the laugh, although I was remorseful for the Kit Kat bar I had eaten earlier that day.

My daughter is so smart; sometimes she asks questions I just don’t know how to answer. Thank goodness for Google, as every question ends up with me having to search the internet. My other children used to ask questions of curiosity like what my favorite color was growing up, or what television shows I used to watch when I was little, or the names of my best friends from grade school. My daughter with autism does not have an interest in any of those topics.

She wants to know what scientific family a slug is in. I had no idea—I had to look it up. She wanted to know how many species are in the gastropod family. I had no idea—I had to look it up. Then she wanted to see pictures of each species. I told her I don’t have that information either and that I would have to look it up. She told me very calmly, and in all seriousness, “I used to think you were smart.” Again, I laughed. I have been outsmarted by an eight-year-old!

Playdates at the park are no different. I always enjoy seeing how she reacts and how she perceives others. Each time we go is different, even when nothing around us is different. We have our good days and bad days like everyone else. I was talking to another parent and watching the kids play. One of the kids came up to me to tell me that my daughter was eating snails.

I went over to investigate what was going on. She saw me and right away told me, “I am not eating the snails. I was just tasting them. I have spit all of them out.” I laughed and told the other parent we needed to go before she fills up too much before dinner.

If laughter is truly good for the soul, I get a good daily dose from my daughter each day. I am thankful for her witty comments and the humor she brings into our life. Life is not easy having a child on the spectrum, but having a positive attitude and learning to laugh at the little things certainly makes it better. Wishing joy and laughter to all the autism parents out there!
