You’ll want to make this yummy snack all year

Pumpkin bread that’s moist, flavorful, and easy to make? Yep, it’s true! This easy pumpkin bread recipe is perfect for the festive holiday season, especially when your time is limited since there is very little prep time or dirty dishes involved. Try making the pumpkin bread in a regular loaf pan, or if you’re looking for a unique present, bake the bread in a coffee tin or in old soup cans. Then wrap it up with cellophane or tissue paper and you’ve got yourself a great (and delicious) gift.

Easy Pumpkin Bread Recipe Ingredients:

1 (15 ounce) can of pumpkin puree
4 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
2/3 cup water
3 cups white sugar
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground ginger

**this recipe will yield three 7″ x 3″ loaf pans. We suggest cutting the recipe in half if you don’t want that large of a portion. If you do cut the recipe in half, it will make one regular loaf.

Method:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour three 7×3 inch loaf pans.

2. In a large bowl, mix together pumpkin puree, eggs, oil, water, and sugar until well blended. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. Stir the dry ingredients into the pumpkin mixture until just blended. Pour into the prepared pans.

3. Bake for about 50 minutes in the preheated oven. Loaves are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Insider tips to beat the crowds at your favorite grocery stores

Ah, grocery shopping: one of those necessary evils because hey—we all like to eat, right? It’s never easy piling the kids into the car, trying to remember if you need besides milk or bread as you wander the aisles… If only you knew when the best time to shop at the grocery store was. Well, we’ve got the answer for you!

Whether you’re all about Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Costco, Kroger or Aldi, we’ve got you covered for the best times to do your grocery shopping and save big. Get the scoop below.

Whole Foods

If you're looking to save money, Whole Foods Markets typically start their sales on Wednesdays. That means if you picked up a sale item on Monday, when you go back the following Thursday you may find it at a higher price. So take advantage of the deals when your local store has them.

When it comes to missing the rush, the best time to shop totally depends on where you live and your local store's traffic. City-based stores tend have the largest crowds at lunch-time. But suburban stores have a bigger rush in the evenings and on weekends.

If you REALLY want to beat the crowds, stay home. That is, stay home and order your groceries for delivery. Whole Foods Market is constantly expanding the list of cities that are delivery eligible.

Trader Joe's

Weekends at Trader Joe's: yes we know what it's like trying to get a prime parking space (or any space at all). Given that you probably already try to avoid TJ's on a hopping Sunday afternoon, when should you head out to get your fave fun frozen foods?

According to a store manager in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread, Tuesday and Wednesday early mornings are the best times to shop at your local Trader Joe's.

Costco

When should you shop the mega warehouse store? That depends on where you live, but according to a Business Insider interview with Costco employees, definitely skip weekend shopping trips. These are the busiest times, making the stores the most crowded.

Even though the weekdays may equal a quicker shopping trip, there are better times than others. Evenings also tend to draw the largest crowds. In other words, weekday mornings or early afternoons are the best times to shop at Costco.

Kroger

Like Whole Foods, Kroger brand stores (including Baker's, King Soopers, Ralphs and Smith's), also start sales on Wednesdays. Kroger store employees typically stock the shelves late at night and in the early a.m. hours. That means you might want to consider shopping in the morning.

If you want to save even more, wait until Friday to shop. Kroger's free Friday download lets you download a coupon for one free item on Fridays only.

Aldi

Hmm. It looks like Wednesdays take the cake when it comes to new sales and new stuff.  Wednesdays are THE day for new items. It's also the day when the Aldi Finds section gets new additions and seasonal picks. That said, some stores don't stick to the Wednesday debut. Depending on where you live, new items may come out on Sundays.

Well, it looks like the best days to shop at your most-loved stores are…any day? While Wednesdays are big for savings and debuts, it all depends on where you live and when you absolutely need to shop. The milk won’t shop for itself––unless you’re doing grocery pickup.

From squares to cylinders, the traditional grilled cheese sandwich has just been reinvented thanks to My Little Gourmet. And they only take 10 minutes to make! Serve these grilled cheese roll-ups as a snack or accompaniment to some hot tomato soup (we’re sure the roll-up shape makes it more fun for the kids). We’ve got more easy toddler lunch ideas here.

Serving size 2

Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups Ingredients:

4 slices of sandwich bread
4 slices of cheese (recommend gouda)
1 tablespoon butter

Method:

1. Cut the crusts off of the bread.

2. Roll each slice flat with a rolling pin.

3. Place a slice of cheese on each piece of bread and roll up tightly.

4. Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat.

5. Place the rolls, seam-side down, in the pan and press down so that they don’t unravel.

6. Rotate until golden brown on each side and the cheese is melted.

Take the stress out of the holiday this year at a local restaurant serving the best Thanksgiving dinner in Portland

Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday filled with food, family, drink, and pleasure. With a side of complete kitchen destruction and a sink full of dishes. Don’t get us wrong, that can be a fun piece of the party too. But if this year, all that clean up feels like a little much, don’t fret—these Portland restaurants are making it easy for families (but a few extra tips always help). They’re serving up the best Thanksgiving dinner in Portland so you and the kids can focus on what matters most during this time of year—each other.

These Portland restaurants are open on Thanksgiving (and they’re family-friendly too)

1. Bullard Tavern

Situated in downtown Portland inside the Woodlark Hotel, the Bullard Tavern prides itself on its ability to bring Texas hospitality to Oregon’s wide variety of dining options. Perhaps you’d like to visit the restaurant in person on Thanksgiving this year? It's as easy as making a reservation through Tock, and then sitting down to all your favorite Thanksgiving staples (the restaurant is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.) served a la carte. Hint: The Thanksgiving Plate is stacked with traditional faves. Or perhaps you’d like to swing by and grab a meal to-go so you can eat in the comfort of your own home? You can do that at Bullard Tavern too. Be sure to place your order for the family dinner box (serves 3-4) soon and schedule your pick-up for November 23. Our tip? Don't forget to add a dessert to your order when you do.

2. 23Hoyt

Sophisticated and contemporary, you can expect a thoughtfully curated Thanksgiving buffet at this Portland restaurant. While there will definitely be turkey (butter and herb roasted free-range, organic) on the table, families will also find some Spanish-Mediterranean influenced dishes there too. Maple Glazed Garnet Yams and Sautéed French Beans are a sampling of the sides. And mini tarts and yogurt strudel finish up the meal. Make reservations to enjoy this no-work dinner (for you anyway) between 1 and 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Cost: $55/adult; $20/kid

3. Urban Farmer

Urban Farmer is a modern steakhouse located in the heart of downtown Portland. Inside the Nines Hotel, this class A restaurant offers high quality meals made from locally sourced produce and fresh butcher cuts. Did we mention that the restaurant is situated in the 8th floor atrium? But the view is not the only thing you and the kids can enjoy at this restaurant that will be open on Thanksgiving from noon to 9 p.m. Salad and flatbread start things off before the first course. Then choose from salmon, ham, NY strip, or honey and thyme roasted turkey breast for the main course. They have a veg option too. Sides and desserts mirror traditional favorites with a few unexpected twists. You'll need reservations to dine here.

Cost: $78/adult; $36/kid, 12 & under
