RGNY

This 200-acre vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island (a real hotspot of wine production, thanks to ideal climate conditions) grows 14 different grape varieties. Kick back and relax with a glass—like the vineyard's pinot noir, voted best at the NY Wine & Food Classic. They are open for tastings, and while reservations are not required, they are recommended. The name changed from Martha Clara Vineyards to RGNY in 2019.) FYI: If you've always wanted to stomp some grapes, you can get tickets to a fancy "Stomp Party" here this August, and kids are welcome!

A wide-open grassy space makes for good lounging, and you can play a round of corn hole if you like. Jamesport Farm Brewery is also dog-friendly. There is one pretty big catch with this lovely spot: no one under 21 is allowed on Saturdays and Sundays, and yes, that includes babies and kids in strollers. Oh Pie! Where to Pick Your Own Cherries near NYC

Planning a vacation is exciting! The possibilities for where to go and what to do are endless. Do you want to relax on a lounge chair by the water or hike up to stunning treetop views? Hit national parks or theme parks? We could do this all day… but you shouldn’t have to! Picking a spot that your whole fam will love doesn’t need to be overwhelming; you just need a few guidelines to make sure everyone will have a blast.

Hot travel tip: Marriott Bonvoy offers 30 unique brands of hotels across the country, loaded with amenities for families. Find your home away from home now!

Have a Baby? Start Here.

Beach, Baby!

Sure, babies love to cry, but they also love to explore! A beach vacay is perfect for baby. Squishing sand in their teenie hands, dipping toes in the water for the first time—so many new sensations to take in. If you do choose somewhere sunny, just remember that it’s not recommended for kids one year and under to wear sunblock. Be sure to have an umbrella at the ready, and dress them in some fabulous SPF swimsuits to keep their skin safe. Bonus: The calming sound of the surf makes for an ideal nap spot for you both!

Into the Great Wide Open

With a babe in tow, it's a great time to finally have that chill, outdoorsy trip you’ve been dreaming of. Your little one is portable right now, so take advantage of it—they even have special hiking gear just to carry your tiny bean along your travels. How about discovering Montana, where you’ll be able to explore the beauty of nature and kids will enjoy spotting all the farm animals and copying their sounds IRL? Or "go up the county" to the Adirondacks in New York State for some peaceful vibes, gorgeous greenery and sparkling lakes.

‘Threenagers’ & Under

Toddlers can be synonymous with tantrums and much-needed naps. But that shouldn’t stop them (or you!) from having a good time. Look into going somewhere with whole spaces just for them, like a Children’s Museum—this way kids can explore and play in a safe space and get the wiggles out (since they are getting into everything these days!). Maybe plan on an activity like a petting zoo or playground in the morning, then you’ll have time to head back to the hotel for their nap and refresh for your next adventure. Be sure to bring a lightweight stroller and plenty of snacks no matter where you go, and your tot will be happy as a clam.

No matter your budget, Marriott Bonvoy offers a variety of hotels in family-friendly destinations nationwide!

The Interactive Bunch: 4-7 Years

Time for adventure! What should you look for? Interactive activities! Think big cities or spots with resorts and amusement parks, and lots to do. Aquariums and museums fit the bill, too! How about a visit to the world-renowned Natural History Museum and then simply cross the street to experience the man-made beauty that is Central Park in NYC. Florida, of course, is always an excellent option for family fun, with plenty of choices for theme parks and outdoor water sports. Looking for smaller crowds? Williamsburg, Virginia, boasts a much-loved theme park—Busch Gardens (yup, like the beer!)—also fascinating brewery tours for the whole gang and engaging and immersive history-themed events for all ages.

 Big Kids: 8 & Up

Your little kid is becoming a big kid! Let what they’re interested in be your guide for where to go. Into music? Shimmy on over to Nashville, Tennessee, and check out their world-famous Honk Tonks! Is science their thing? Head to Portland, Oregon, where you can visit the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, one of the largest science museums in the country. At this age, it's also a great time to pay a visit to some of our nation's breathtaking national parks. Arches National Park in Utah, for one, is chockfull of stunning natural rock formations with loads to explore close by—and there are plenty more around the country!

No matter where you choose to vacay, there’s nothing quite as special as family time. Marriott Bonvoy’s resorts and properties offer you a multitude of ways to get together. With so many family-friendly properties across the U.S., you’re sure to find the perfect place to spend time together and enjoy!

It exists: In between the breezy vibe of uber-cool downtown San Diego and Real Housewive glamour-town Orange County lies Carlsbad, but SHHHH—don’t tell anyone! We want to keep this gem of a vacay spot all to ourselves. Read on for six reasons why Carlsbad is the destination that will make your family’s travel dreams a reality.

Start planning your trip today!

1. Foodie Paradise

If you go somewhere without scoping out the food scene first, you’re doing it wrong. We have you covered—Carlsbad is a food-lovers fantasy come true. Did we mention wineries and breweries? Yeah, they have that too. Get here now!

2. LEGOLAND®

That’s right. The pièce de résistance of your trip may just be a visit to LEGOLAND. And we don’t blame you; much like that park with the mouse, this one is iconic and a day or two here is a must. LEGOLAND California Resort has more than 60 rides, shows and attractions including (cue the confetti!) the exciting new LEGO® NINJAGO® World! There’s also a waterpark, a wonder-filled aquarium and—wait for it—an awesome hotel. More about that coming up.

3. So Many Options to Stay

Because there’s so much to do at LEGOLAND, you may want to spend the night at their hotel on-premises, packed with all the LEGO features to wow kids and adults alike. If you like the ease of location but want another option, the Sheraton hotel just outside features a private entrance to the park!

There are tons of options from luxe to budget, but our top picks for your fam are the Park Hyatt, Omni, and Sheraton hotels—not only excellent values, but they feature fun pools with slides—WHEE!

You’ll discover even more exciting things to do, see and eat, in Carlsbad!

4. 7 Miles of Beaches

Wanna swim, hike, bike, dive, surf, birdwatch, or just add to your shell collection and stroll? No problem. With seven miles of breathtaking west coast beach waves, you can do it all—or nothing at all.

5. Outlet Shopping

Outlet shopping has never felt so right: This beautiful outdoor shopping center in Carlsbad has 90 designer and name-brand outlet stores, including Barneys New York Warehouse, Coach, Elie Tahari, Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, Nike Factory Store and many more, all offering savings of 25% to 65% every day. Pro tip: It’s right near LEGOLAND. If you want to sneak away… we won’t tell.

6. Award-Winning Golf

With four acclaimed golf courses throughout Carlsbad to choose from, you just can't go wrong. Even if you're not a golfer, these are some of the most beautiful greens in the country. The Park Hyatt Avira boasts a course designed by golf great Arnold Palmer with a most memorable coastal layout. Humblebrag: The Crossing at Carlsbad was voted by GOLF Magazine as one of the "Top 10 New Courses You Can Play," and the greatest names in golf history have played at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa's golf resort.

What are you waiting for? Plan your dream getaway now!

During the U-Pick season, this gorgeous spot is home to trees that hang heavy with every kind of apple and pear you can think of. You can wander up and down the rows of Gala, Granny Smiths, Fujis, Anjous and other's you've likely never heard of, choosing perfectly ripe fruit to take home. When the little ones get squirrely, let them play in the on-site playground or head across the way to the orchard's sister site Grateful Vinyard, which features a sweeping lawn with jaw-dropping views of the Mountain. You can order pizza and have a picnic before returning to town.

Packer Orchards Farm is another nearby spot you'll want to visit during the spring, summer and fall months through the end of November. From U-Pick fruit opportunities to a petting zoo and play area, this Farm offers visiting families a day full of play. But that's not all, they have a bakery full of their very own homegrown goodies you'll want to eat on site and fill your pantry with at home.

Insider Tip: If you plan to visit Packer Orchards in Fall, make sure to plan your stay over their fall festival. It's a huge event that features a haunted corn maze, pumpkin bowling, a bouncy house and more.

Museums & More

Annette Benedetti

The fact that you can pepper in a good amount of education while you are having fun with your kiddos in Hood River is sure to be a bonus for Portland families. Hood River has awesome museums that will thrill young automobile and airplane lovers and give the whole family an opportunity to learn about the area's rich history.

The Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM) is full of thrills and has one of the largest collections of still-flying antique aeroplanes and still-driving antique automobiles in the country. The items on display at this museum are full of history, so much so that every member of your family is sure to learn something new while there. Visitors enjoy an extensive collection of antique aircrafts and over 130 cars in the collection. While there, you might even get the chance to catch a ride in one of the exhibits. Insider Tip: Plan ahead because on the second Saturday of the month, WAAAM has volunteers fly and drive the  artifacts for visitors' enjoyment.

Your family's imagination will be sparked by engaging exhibits, that include Indigenous culture, pioneer settlers, timber and logging, agriculture, recreation, the Hood River Japanese American Story, and the Luhr Jensen & Sons: Where Legends Were Made story.

If you are feeling adventurous, check out the Mt. Hood Railroad and experience one of its themed excursions. During the winter months, you'll want to board their Christmas train right where you are sure to experience the magic of the season. And if you just want to let your kiddos run free while you enjoy the beauty of the waterfront area, Hood River has some impressive playgrounds including the Children’s Park at 9th and Eugene and Waterfront Park on the river. The Children’s Park is a fortress of wood with twists and turns, turrets and tire swings, sand and slides. Imaginations will run wild. With all of the activity, you'll fill your play days in Hood River with, you'll need to fuel the family right. Portland families are used to the elevated food scene that their home base is known for, but Hood River does an excellent job of holding its own with incredible restaurants and eateries.

Mt. View Orchards and Grateful Vineyards offer far more than a U-Pick experience. While you can enjoy pizza with the kids outside, Grateful Vineyard's tasting room has a gorgeous indoor/outdoor venue that offers food and flight pairings you won't soon forget. If you are on a family trip and have older kids or someone who can sit younger kids this spot is highly recommended for a romantic night out. All of the food is seasonal, regional and impeccably prepared. Paired with a stunning view of the sun setting on the mountain, this spot offers an experience you'll want to relive again and again.

If you find yourself strolling in downtown Hood River, you'll definitely want to stop at Mike’s Ice Cream. This beloved spot may be seasonal (closing after Halloween) but during the warmer months it has the best cones in town! Later in the evening, grab a nightcap at Hood River Common House a wine and bottle shop with excellent sips and a cozy atmosphere. Insider tip: You can enjoy a glass of wine while the kids get messy with a double scoop at the outdoor seating located between the two shops.

Fall Road Trip Ideas for Portland Families

When you head for Hot Springs, Arkansas, a charming town nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, you’ll find a vacation destination that is the perfect mix of American history and outdoor adventures that’s perfect for families. Whether you prefer to wander through the National Park and the historic Bathhouse Row, spend the day on one of three lakes or explore the surrounding forest, there’s something in “America’s First Resort” for everyone. We had a chance to explore the region, and we’ve come back with plenty of tips, so keep reading to see our ultimate guide to Hot Springs.

The History

Gabby Cullen

Hot Springs is nestled between Sugarloaf Mountain, Music Mountain and West, Hot Springs and North mountains. From the Paleo-Indians to the very first bathhouse built in 1830, the topography and draw of healing powers in this region are ancient. Everyone from Native Americans, pioneers, gangsters and baseball players have come searching for what ails them.

What to Do

Explore Hot Springs National Park

Gabby Cullen

If visiting the Hot Springs area, a day spent exploring the National Park is a must. Established as a national park in 1916, people have been coming to Hot Springs for hundreds of years. Bathhouse Row was designated as a Historic Landmark in 1974, and in 1989, the Fordyce Bathhouse opened as the park visitor center. You can wander through the entire building, which has been painstakingly restored to give the public a view into the past. See both the men’s and women’s sides of the bathhouse, view the stunning stained-glass windows, clothing and artifacts from the Edwardian era, and finally, the room, that in 1915, was the largest gym in Arkansas.

After wandering through the Fordyce, head up through the actual park grounds, where you’ll find spring water bubbling up from the ground, as well as the Grand Promenade, which is a paved ½ mile path that offers both nature and a stunning view of downtown Hot Springs. There are also trails that head into the mountainside of the park for the more adventurous.

A visit to the 210-acre outdoor space located on the outskirts of Hot Springs will take you a whole day, and you still might not see it all! Must-see highlights include the Bridge of the Full Moon and the koi pond in the Japanese Garden, the Evan Treehouse in the children’s area, the wildflower ridge, the miniature train that runs every day weather permitting and of course, George the peacock and his companions Ellie and Sabrina. A very special stop is the Anthony Chapel, an architectural wonder designed by Arkansas architects David McKee and Maurice Jennings. It soars six stories high, with marvelous glass windows, a vaulted glass and wood ceiling and 360-degree views of the forest and Lake Hamilton.

Shop Downtown

Gabby Cullen

The strip of stores across from Bathhouse row has plenty of fun stops for families. Stop by the Toy Chest or one of the three candy stores that call Central Ave. home. There’s also the very impressive Gangster Museum of America, where you’ll learn all about the role that Hot Springs has played in the history of notorious crime figures like Al Capone, Owney Madden, Lucky Luciano, Frank Costello, Bonny and Klyde and many more.

Another cool thing do to in downtown Hot Springs is to follow the historic baseball trail. Spring Training was founded in Hot Springs, and luminous athletes such as Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Cy Young and Yogi Berra came to enjoy the restorative spring waters and get in shape for the next season.

With three lakes in the area, a day spent fishing, or on a boat, kayak or paddleboard is a popular choice for families, especially in the summer! Hot Springs Marina has plenty of Tri-Toon rentals, and Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters is your go-to spot for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

When you step into The Pancake Shop, the first things you’ll notice are the friendly staff, the walls lined with Hot Springs history and the laid-back atmosphere. After that, the only thing you’ll be able to think about is the pancakes. Not much has changed since The Pancake Shop opened in 1940, and that’s a good thing. The sausage is sourced locally, the pancakes are made from scratch, and the portions are plentiful. Even if you have to wait for a table on the weekends (which is very likely), you can wander next door to The Savory Pantry, a gourmet food store, where you can grab a cup of coffee and wander the aisles until your table is ready.

Best Café

Gabby Cullen

Another amazing breakfast (or brunch or lunch!) spot is Best Café. Owned by the same proprietors that just opened The Reserve, this diner has tons of charm and plenty of good food. The creme brulee french toast is a favorite, as are the cinnamon rolls, but we also tried the avocado toast and highly recommend this as well. Located in a renovated motor lodge, this is definitely a hidden gem worth trying!

Taco Mama

Emma R. via Yelp

This fun spot is perfect for families. There’s a lot of space inside, and the staff is very accommodating to groups. There’s a fun vibe, and whether you want classic fajitas, something decadent like the shrimp and crab enchiladas or even a keto-friendly meal, you’ll find it at Taco Mama. If you like margaritas, be sure to try the champagne margarita!

Superior Bathhouse Brewery

If you plan on spending the day visiting the National Landmark District, be sure to plan on having lunch at Superior Bathhouse Brewery. Not only is it housed in one of the original bathhouses on Bathhouse Row, but it’s also the only brewery in a National Park, and it’s the only brewery that uses spring water to brew its beer. With a family-friendly vibe, the menu is the perfect mix of brewpub fare and locally sourced ingredients. There are usually 18 beers on tap, so consider getting an assortment of 4 oz. samplers.

Deluca's Pizzeria

Gabby Cullen

People can be picky about their pizza, and so when we say some of the best (maybe THE best?) pizza in Arkansas, and some of the best in the country, can be found at Deluca's Pizzeria, then you best be sure to get dinner at this spot on your calendar when you visit Hot Springs. Made in the classic New York Style, the thin but soft crust is topped with fresh ingredients, including mozzarella, arugula, local meats and more. As a bonus, they also serve incredible pasta and quite possibly the most simple but most delicious cheeseburger ever!

Where to Stay

The DoubleTree by Hilton

Gabby Cullen

With a recent total renovation, the DoubleTree by Hilton is a great spot for families. Not only is it a pet-friendly spot, but it’s right on the Lake, with an outdoor pool, fire pits, Adirondack chairs for lounging and even a dock for those who want to drop their kayak and head out on the water. They aren’t currently doing a buffet breakfast, but the menu options for a sit-down meal or room service are ample. The property is also very close to downtown Hot Springs, so getting around is easy.

This is a high-ceilinged brewpub features windows that provide an entertaining veiw of the brewing setup: a bonus for curious little ones. The food is a bit more upscale than your usual pub fare, but still approachable. Try the  Beet Melt with roasted beets, goat cheddar, granny smith apples, and pickled onions on sourdough. Laurelwood Brewing Co.

Cindy S. via Yelp

Self-described as “the place where friends and family meet,” it comes as no surprise that Laurelwood Brewing is ideal for a family gathering. With two patios, two kids’ play areas and a warm atmosphere, you can tell that this establishment was opened by parents with young children. Order the kids’ food first (long list of entrees, plus a side, drink and dessert) and get it earlier if your hungry children are chomping at the bit. Their additional locations welcome kids as well, each offering play areas created with toddlers in mind.

Sasquatch Brewing Company

Andrew H.

Great beer can be found in Hillsdale! Sasquatch aims to please with local ingredients and a family-friendly attitude. How does a grass-fed beef hamburger sound with one of those beers? Or olive oil-poached albacore salad with greens, pickled chanterelle mushrooms, roasted fingerlings, creamy white bean purée & olive tapenade? (Phew!) Kids get burgers, mac 'n' cheese or grilled cheese, plus the added bonus of plenty of other kids to share the joyful noise.
