If you think that Pasta Carbonara is a dish you can only have in restaurants, you’ll be shocked to see how simple making it really is. Here to break down the steps for any home cook are Gayle Pirie and John Clark, Chefs and Co-owners of Foreign Cinema in San Francisco. Read on for the full recipe.
Ingredients for Pasta Carbonara:
1 pound (or just under) long noodles (spaghettini, fettucini, or linguine)
6 thick slices of smoky bacon
2 Tablespoons pure olive oil
4 eggs
Salt to taste
A chunk of Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Method:
1. Bring lightly salted water to a boil in a large pot. Cook the noodles until tender but firm.
2. While the noodles cook, dice the bacon and cook it in the olive oil until just lightly crisped in a medium sauté pan. Pour off the excess fat, reserving 4 tablespoons in the pan.
3. In a bowl, beat the eggs and season with a little salt.
4. Drain the noodles, saving about 2 tablespoons of water for later. If the pan has cooled down, warm it up again right before adding the noodles.
5. Add the noodles to the warm bacon in the pan; thoroughly toss with the oil and bacon, and season with salt. Work fast and pour the beaten eggs onto the warm noodles and mix well to coat the noodles.
6. Add the reserved pasta water if the noodles look dry. The heat of the noodles and the pan will thicken and set the eggs. If there is not enough heat, turn the burner on very low, just to warm the noodles, then turn it off. Too much heat can scramble the eggs.
7. Once the noodles, egg, and bacon are well mixed, add freshly grated Parmesan cheese, and stir. Freshly ground black pepper is an essential addition. Serve in warm pasta bowls.

Struggling with costume inspiration this year? Spirit Halloween to the rescue! The retailer just dropped 2021 costume trends that are wickedly good for both trick or treating and adult work parties.
Get the whole crew in on the fun with the Creepy Families theme, featuring broods from popular franchises. Spirit forecasts that Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, Corpse Bride and the Addams Family will be on trend this season.
Speaking of throwback entertainment, the ’90s are coming in hot! Specifically the shows of your childhood, like Teletubbies, Space Jam, Care Bears and Killer Klowns from Outer Space. It might be tricky to suit up in a full-blown Teletubby costume, but you might also win the night at your office party. Worth it?
But if there’s one thing the whole family can agree on, it’s that snacks are life. Why not put the “treat” in trick or treating? Spirit suggests searching out the Cheetos Flamin’ Hot costume, or you could dress up as an avocado, pickle, banana, PB&J or milk and cookies!
You can find all these looks online (or in store) at Spirit Halloween, the largest Halloween specialty retailer in the country. There are more than 1,425 locations nationwide and more opening every spooky season. The countdown is on to October 31!

Actress Michelle Williams is reportedly engaged to Hamilton director Thomas Kail—and, according to a source close to the soon-to-be bride, she’s also expecting!
While neither Williams’ or Kail’s reps have confirmed the engagement or pregnancy, plenty of congrats and warm well-wishes have already popped up on social media.
Recent reports also cited the same source (who initially dished on the engagement and pregnancy) as saying the actress’s 14-year-old daughter was the one who played matchmaker between Williams and Kail. The teenager, Matilda, is Williams’ child with the late actor Heath Ledger.
Along with the engagement and pregnancy reports, Williams was also seen in London buying baby clothes at Seraphine’s maternity boutique in Kensington. Whether the actress, who is currently filming Venom 2, was buying infant ensembles for her own future kiddo or for a friend’s is still yet unknown.
Lilly Jordan wasn’t going to let chemotherapy ruin her chances to see the Jonas Brothers. Even though the teen couldn’t leave Penn State Children’s Hospital to go to the Hershey, Pennsylvania show, she still got an evening filled with all the Nick, Joe and Kevin she could ask for!
Jordan, who was supposed to go to the Hershey area Jonas Brothers show, shared an Instagram post, inviting the pop starts to pop in and visit her. The post got plenty of attention (even from state congressman Scott Perry) and eventually made its way to the brothers themselves.
Not only did the Jonas Brothers see the post, but they stopped by the teen’s hospital room before their show. In a video clip from the visit, Joe said, “We saw your message, we had to come over.” Nick added, “Do you have a favorite song that we can dedicate to you?”—to which Jordan replied, “Definitely S.O.S.”
Meghan is a writer, editor and professional twinado chaser. Previously she was the founder and former editor-in-chief of the award-winning digital wedding magazine, Portovert (now-defunct). Before that, she was a Contributing Editor at Family Circle. She has also held editorial positions at New Jersey Monthly and New Jersey Bride. Her work has appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Time Out New York, Elite Traveler, The Bark and other publications. Meghan first came to the DC area as a journalism student at The George Washington University. After spending a few years in the Big Apple, she returned to her favorite city with her husband to put down roots.
Favorite place to play outdoors: The National Zoo is our outdoor catchall. We love the playground, the solar-powered carousel, feeding the animals in the petting zoo, the spray zones on a hot day and the holiday lights in the winter.
Favorite thing to do on a rainy day: We like the National Museum of the American Indian, the United States Botanic Garden and the National Air and Space Museum for their close proximity and kid-friendly exhibits. We can skip-hop-and-jump from museum to museum. And the area tends to flood, so it makes for some great puddle splashing!
Favorite street for an afternoon of fun: North Market Street in Frederick, Maryland. It’s about an hour outside the city, but worth the drive! We love the mom-and-pop shops and the farm-to-table restaurants.
Do you have a go-to restaurant you like to take the kids? Vola’s Dockside Grill. It’s casual, waterfront dining in Old Town Alexandria. The kids love watching the planes descend toward Reagan National Airport. There is also dock-side entertainment, like musicians and magicians.
Can’t-live-without mom product: Wipes. For me (not the kids).
Favorite thing about raising kids in the DC area: The French-inspired architecture makes us feel like we are always on vacay.
Most unique (or daring) thing you’ve ever done with your kids locally: When my twins were infants, every outing felt daring! But the most unique was taking then two-year-olds to bunny yoga.

Even though baby Archie is the current royal newsmaker, it was only a year ago that his parents’ wedding was dominating the headlines. In celebration of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s one-year anniversary, the new parents released never before seen pictures of their 2018 nuptials.
The couple posted the pics on their Instagram page, slide show style. The behind-the-scenes photo roll one by one to the song “This Little Light of Mine.”
Along with a bounty of black and white images, the couple’s IG picks also include gorgeous post-wedding shots in full color. From Prince Harry walking down the stairs on his wedding day, to his bride-to-be sweetly holding hands with her own mother, the photos are absolutely everything any fan of the Royals (or for that matter, any fan of romance) would want to see.
A storybook wedding and the birth of an absolutely adorable son all in one year? Who could ask for more?
