Most of us remember our favorite stuffed animal from childhood—maybe a teddy bear, a soft bunny, or a plush dog that we snuggled so hard for so many years that it ended up tattered and worn. Parents tend to call these comfort items ‘loveys’—but in addition to being cute, they actually serve an important purpose for little kids. So how and when should your little one meet their new best friend? Here’s everything you need to know about introducing a lovey for baby.

What is a lovey and why do babies, well, love them?

“A lovey is usually a term that refers to an item a baby may hold or want while falling asleep, for comfort or self-soothing behaviors,” says Dr. Sara Siddiqui, a pediatrician at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital in New York. This often includes stuffed animals, soft dolls, baby blankets, and other comfort items. Loveys aren’t just for bedtime, though—tots turn to them whenever they need a little comfort and soothing throughout the day. Think: in the stroller, on car rides, or just hanging out in your living room.

A lovey can help babies calm down during an episode of crying or irritability, Siddiqui says, and may offer comfort when mom and dad aren’t around. “[Loveys] assist in separation anxiety when the parent or loved one needs to leave the room.” After all, you can’t be within arm’s reach of your child all day, every day, so a lovey is a great tool to help them feel safe and secure when you’re out of sight. Research even shows that the act of stroking can signal the release of oxytocin, a hormone that helps calm and soothe the body, which is why you’ll sometimes see a toddler frantically petting their lovey when they’re feeling uneasy.

Because these items offer a sense of security, kids can develop an attachment to them at a young age. While many children bond with a soft toy or stuffed animal, others may form attachments to random household objects—even toothbrushes!—because they’re familiar and offer so much comfort. They may crave these objects when they’re feeling tired or sad, or processing other emotions. The image of a baby snuggled up with a comfort mop or hairbrush is hilarious, don’t get us wrong, but trust us—a stuffed toy is a lot more practical (and convenient) for most families.

When can I give my baby a lovey?

“The ideal age to introduce a comfort item would be around 9 months when the infant starts to experience separation anxiety,” Siddiqui explains. “Developmentally, babies [at that age] are forming object permanence and separation anxiety where they know who they are most comfortable with.”

Pro tip: choose a lovey that’s washable and relatively inexpensive, and grab a spare or two. This will come in handy if you need to wash the original, want to bring a beloved stuffed animal on a trip, or if the original lovey is lost, damaged, or discontinued.

How to introduce a lovey for baby

While introducing a comfort item to your baby may seem as simple as just handing it over, there are tips and tricks to help them form a bond. Some sleep experts recommend cuddling the lovey alongside your baby during storytime or while breastfeeding, while others suggest giving the lovey hugs and kisses in front of your infant before offering it to them. You can also tuck the lovey into your shirt or sleep with it yourself temporarily to help transfer your scent onto the material—a familiar and comforting sensation for your baby.

When can your baby sleep with their lovey?

While you may be tempted to throw your tot’s lovey into the crib at bedtime, sleep experts and medical professionals agree that no blankets, stuffed toys, or other loose objects should be added to an infant’s sleep space until they’re a year old. “Best practice is not to have [a lovey] during sleep as there may be a suffocation risk for infants,” Dr. Siddiqui agrees. “Always speak with your child’s pediatrician to discuss safe sleep practices.”

Once your babe is over a year old, feel free to give them a stuffed animal or favorite comfort object at bedtime. Over time, they may even come to associate the feel of the lovey with sleep and doze off more easily (fingers crossed). Just make sure it’s not a choking risk or a suffocation risk (skip the oversized or weighted stuffed animals, for example). You should also make sure it can’t be used to help them climb out of their crib. A large, firm stuffed animal that functions as a makeshift step stool in bed? No, thank you!

Can babies get too attached?

Generally speaking, this isn’t something parents need to be concerned about. Being emotionally attached to a comfort item (or ‘transitional item’) is a normal part of childhood development, and has known benefits for parents and kids alike. Self-soothing is a learned skill, and comfort is a good thing—people need it at every age and stage of life. So if your child seems obsessed with a certain soft toy or stuffed animal, know that it’s perfectly healthy and this phase will likely pass (or at least, the intensity of the attachment to that item will fade over time). If you have specific concerns, ask your family doctor for advice.

These weird kids products might actually be genius

There’s always some new product for babies and kids out there. The “next big thing” is just around the corner, and with kids growing and changing fast, it makes sense that products have to keep up. Sure, when we were growing up, we were gnawing on wooden blocks and throwing glass bottles with latex nipples across the room and we came out okay. Right? Or at least, made it to adulthood. That doesn’t mean the “new and improved” weird kids products aren’t, well, improved.

But we’ve gotta say it. There’s also some weird stuff cropping up. The “are you serious” products that we can’t quite believe are real. They’re good for a laugh, but what if they’re actually brilliantWhat if these strange products work like a charm? Well, we did a little research and, lo and behold, there are a lot of them that do. Based on Amazon reviews, this stuff seriously can’t be missed and might ultimately become must-haves. So, between making your life as a mom easier, saving you some time and money, and giving you the chance to tell all your friends that you found the Holy Grail of parenting, we think this list is going to blow your mind. But in a good way. These are the weird kids products that might actually be brilliant!

Smiley Mia Penguin Buddy Never Drop Silicone Baby Teething Toy

Amazon

We love how these teethers are easy to grip, even for the teeniest hands!

Amazon Review: I'm on my third baby, and have multiple friends with multiple babies so I can confidently say I've used, seen and bought many baby teethers. This it the only one that doesn't get dropped constantly. My 4 month old loves to hold it even if she's not chewing on it. And when she starts fussing, I give it to her, she chews, and immediately calms down. I do have to help her open her fingers around the bar to grasp it, and I also helped her figure out how to chew on it in the beginning, because she kept stabbing herself in the eye.. But she caught on pretty quick and she loves it. We took it to a Dr. check up and the nurse commented on how cool it was and the design of it. I would buy again, and as a gift for other babies. -Amazon Customer

Find out how Turo stacks up against traditional rental car companies

If you’re anything like me—with kids who travel about as well as a trio of grumpy cats stuck in a cage together—you’ll do anything to make your journey just a teensy bit easier.

In my 13-year quest for the illusive “easy trip,” I’ve tried it all: I’ve shipped my luggage in advance to avoid the inevitable wait at baggage claim (when my kids are either sprinting wildly through crowds or experimenting with how far onto the luggage conveyer belt they can sit before anyone notices); I’ve used suitcases that double as strollers to keep by wandering toddlers close; I’ve bought a bevy of gadgets to entertain my kids on flights and long car rides.

It’s still hard.

So when I spotted an opportunity to make renting a car a little bit easier, I had to take it.

Turo rental car service

Turo, a peer-to-peer car rental company founded in 2009, lets you rent a car without the usual rental car tedium: There are no long lines at the airport to endure; no squeezing your whole family into a compact economy car because it’s all that’s left; no worries that you’ll show up at the counter to find out your car was already doled out to someone else. It’s just one car—your choice, down to the make, model, and color—waiting for you when you land.

But what exactly is Turo? How does it work? And is it actually better than a traditional rental car company, especially when you’re traveling with kids? Read on to find out more:

What is Turo?

Basically: Turo works like Airbnb, but for cars. Car owners list their personal cars (though many Turo hosts are seasoned pros who have a fleet of cars on the site), and customers sort through listings to find exactly what they want. The company operates in all 50 states across the US and in 10,000+ cities across the US, UK, Canada, France, and Australia—with rentals at most major airports as well as in pockets of residential areas across the country.

Unlike traditional rental car companies, Turo’s business model lets customers pick the car of their choice—down to the make, model, vehicle year (with options like all-wheel-drive, blind spot monitoring, GPS, child seats, and backup cameras) —and read user reviews to get some assurance on the quality before renting.

“In the last few years, booking with traditional rental car companies has been incredibly difficult due to supply shortages and cancellations,” said Turo Chief Data Officer Albert Mangahas. “It made people realize that they want the power of choice, convenience, and excellent service, especially when traveling with their families.”

Always wanted to drive a Tesla? Curious about what being a Mini Van Mom feels like? Turo is a good way to find out. With more than 1,400 makes and models of cars represented on the site, you can rent the car you’ve always dreamed of (or, at least, the one you think might make for an easy road trip).

“Turo provides guests with the opportunity to make their cars a memorable part of their vacation, whether that’s an SUV, minivan, exotic car, or electric vehicle,” Mangahas said.

As for the quality of the cars, it’s not like anyone can slap their car on the site and wait for the dollars to roll in. Turo requires that all rental vehicles be less than 12 years old (except for “specialty” cars) and must meet Turo’s safety requirements, including providing a record of annual safety inspections (cars registered in these states don’t need to submit a vehicle inspection, according to Turo).

Turo

How Does Turo Work?

Finding your car: Type in your destination and the dates you need a car, then select your preferred car type and features (like electric, family-friendly, pet-friendly, etc.) to view a list of available cars. Hosts that have the most experience and best reviews are listed as “All-Star Hosts,” which can give you a good idea of your chosen car’s condition and how easy communication will be with your host.

Adding Extras: Need an infant seat or booster? Snow tires? A ski rack? No problem. Search for cars that offer these extras and your car will be fully loaded when you pick it up.

Provide Your Information: Just like you want to trust your rental car—your rental car’s owner wants to trust you! Consequently, before you can rent a car, you need to give Turo your driver’s license information, photo, credit card information, and home address to verify your identity before you can rent on the site.

Book your trip: All reservations can be canceled up to 24 hours before your trip.

Picking up the car

This is where Turo really differs from traditional rental car companies. Instead of going to an office or building, Turo hosts can deliver the car to the airport, or you can pick it up at another prearranged location. I chose to have the host deliver our car to the airport terminal parking lot, so when we landed in Orlando, Fl., we just walked out of the airport and got our three-row car as if we were Florida natives! (Way easier than waiting 45 minutes at a rental car counter only to be assigned a sedan that would force my three big kids to sit next to each other in the back seat.)

How: Most Turo hosts will park the car with either the doors unlocked and the key in the glove compartment or with a lockbox attached to the underside of the car so that the renter can just get in and go. Some cars also use a remote lock/unlock system so renters can unlock the car from their phone.

Note: Some hosts prefer in-person exchanges—For instance, they’ll pick you up at the airport and drive you to your hotel before giving you the keys. This would be indicated on the host’s listing.

Checking In: When you get to your car, you’ll first need to verify its condition—and prove that you’re actually the one picking up the car (this prevents people from renting cars for others). For instance: I had to take a picture of myself in front of the car with my driver’s license in my hand and upload it to the Turo app.

The check-in process also asks that you upload photos of the interior and exterior of the car (including the mileage and gas indicator, just to show any pre-existing dents or scratches as well as how much gas was in the car when you picked it up).

Note: Since the check-in process relies on the Turo app, keep your cell phone charged! If your toddler has been tapping away at your phone the whole flight and you’re left with zero battery, you won’t be able to log onto the app to find out where your car is or how to get into it.

Returning the car

Similar to the check-in process, returning your car requires that you take it to the designated location (for me, it was the airport’s economy parking lot), upload pictures of the car’s interior and exterior (to show that you left it safe and sound), and leave the keys behind (I was told to leave the keys in the glove compartment and leave the car unlocked). Then… Just walk away!

If there are any incidental charges—like if you didn’t fill up the gas tank before returning it—you’ll be sent an invoice to pay. Additionally, if you left the car unreasonably messy (like, if your toddler vomited all over the seats and you left the crusted remains, or if you drove through a mudslide and your car now looks chocolate-dipped—you’ll be charged a $150 cleaning fee.

To put things into perspective: I didn’t have any problems with returning my 2020 Kia Sorrento, and that’s even with my kids snacking endlessly in the back seat.

Is Turo Cheaper Than Traditional Rental Cars?

At first glance, Turo is vastly cheaper than traditional rental cars—with prices starting at around $29 a day. Costs shoot up if you want a particular make, model, or year, and are dependent on the location, with the average price of a mid-size, mid-value car hovering around $40-70 a day.

When it comes to renting family-friendly cars, Turo also beats out traditional rental car prices. A Turo-listed 2020 Chrysler Pacifica in Los Angeles, for example, starts at $58 a day, while the same car at Enterprise LAX costs $110 a day.

That said, Turo does have some added costs that might make that divide a little smaller. Airport fees (if you want the car delivered to the airport), optional features (like car seats or bike racks), and a Turo “Trip Fee” (which ranges from 2.5% to 100% of the total trip price, with higher value cars having a higher trip fee), may make your Turo rental price not so far away from other rental car companies fees.

NOTE: We recommend buying Turo insurance, which starts at $14 a day. This is because most car insurance companies (or credit card policies if your card offers rental car insurance) don’t recognize Turo as an official rental car agency; consequently, they generally won’t cover you should you get into an accident while driving a Turo car.

Melissa Heckscher

The Takeaway:

I spent $331 for a four-day rental in Orlando—much cheaper than if I had rented any three-row car from Budget or Avis. I didn’t have to deal with anyone (except my kids) when I got off the plane. We just walked out of the airport, got in the car, and drove to our hotel. We were out of the airport within 45 minutes of landing!

The only real glitch in the process was that I didn’t get great WiFi at the airport parking lot, so I had a tough time uploading pictures to the app on check-in and return.  As for the car, I wasn’t blown away—highway driving was loud, the seats weren’t electric, and I couldn’t get Apple Carplay to work. But I hadn’t specified a luxury car or any specific features, so I wasn’t too perturbed by these things.

The car had three rows, it fit all of us comfortably, and it drove us safely to our destination (for less money). Success.

Pros of Turo:

  • Cheaper (generally) than traditional rental car companies
  • No need to wait in a rental car line with your kids!
  • Huge selection of cars lets you choose a particular model, make, and year
  • Plenty of family-friendly cars including SUVs and minivans at competitive prices
  • You can select specific family-friendly features such as car seats, bike racks, Apple CarPlay, etc.
  • It’s a great way to try out a luxury or specialty car
  • You can pick up your car at any time, even if your flight lands late at night (many rental car companies, by contrast, close at a certain time)

Cons of Turo:

  • Fees (insurance, trip fee, airport fees, etc.) can add up, making the prices comparable to traditional rental car agencies
  • The whole process is dependent on your phone/computer and WiFi signal (if you don’t have a working device, you won’t know where your car is and how to get it—or be able to tell the host where you parked it when you dropped it off)
  • You have to rely on user reviews to determine the reliability of your chosen car
  • The experience can vary significantly from one trip to another, depending on the owner’s (and previous reviewers’) standards of cleanliness or quality:
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before your trip, you’ll have to pay a portion of the trip fee (whereas some rental car companies don’t charge you at all until you show up at the counter)

Gone are the days where having a strong vocabulary only mattered on the SAT. Kids today—now, more than ever—need a solid vocabulary, not only for success in school, but also to express themselves in a way that empowers them to make an impact on the world around them. According to Boston Children’s Hospital, the most important thing you can do to help a child experiencing heightened stress and anxiety is to listen to them. And if they have the vocabulary (and emotional awareness) to express themselves, you’ve equipped them to take control of that situation. So whether you’re motivated to build toddler language development for school success or for social and emotional reasons, you’re winning at parenting. And these language development games and activities for kids can help you do it.

1. Read Together

We’ll bet you’re already practicing this toddler language development strategy in your home without even realizing it. According to Sandra Gatlin, a fourth-grade teacher with over 30 years of experience, “The key to a broad vocabulary is to foster a love of reading in your child. Whether from reading together as toddlers, or listening to them read to you as they develop their abilities, you cannot find a better way to expand your vocabulary.”

Extra Credit: Don’t stop reading to your kids, even after they can do it on their own. Choose a book that interests them that’s above their reading level, and “talk about what you’re reading, so you can work on comprehension, too,” adds Gatlin.

2. Go Hunting for Sight Words with Nerf Guns

“My son doesn’t want to look at a workbook or sit still after he’s been at school all day,” mom and educator extraordinaire, Anne Hart, says. So she wrote sight words on Post-It notes and stuck them on the ceiling, near the baseboards, and behind doors throughout her house. Now, her son picks up a Nerf gun and gets prizes for shooting the right word that Hart calls out. We love this strategy that supports toddler language development and makes it fun in the process.

Extra Credit: Don’t stop at sight words. You can play this game with vocabulary words and definitions. Just write the word on the Post-It note, and read the definition out to your hunter, who’ll go “hunting” for the correct word.

3. Match and Go Seek

Another great toddler language development game, match and go seek, also involves Post-It notes. Make two copies of each word, then give one stack to your child, and place the other notes on corresponding items. For instance, give your child a Post-It note with the word “tree” written on it, then place another one on the trunk of a tree in the backyard. Get more creative and advanced as his or her vocabulary grows.

Extra Credit: The National Center on Improving Literacy reports that “remote literacy learning includes a mixture of literacy learning experiences that are teacher-led, family-led, and student-led. Parents have an important role in helping develop your child’s literacy skills.” Your involvement in growing your child’s vocabulary has never been more important.

4. Talk to Your Children

Tracy Cutchlow, author of Zero to Five: 70 Essential Parenting Tips Based on Science, says three-year-olds with whom parents regularly engage in contextualized conversation have IQs 150% greater than those whose parents don’t talk to them. And, since your child’s vocabulary can quadruple in their second year of life, you can’t start too early when it comes to talking to them.

Extra Credit: “It’s hard to know what to say to someone who doesn’t talk back,” says Atlanta preschool director Nancy Hill. “But I used to talk to my daughter so much when she was an infant that I’d be startled when my husband would come home and actually talk back to me!” She suggests listening to the sounds around you—like a bird tweeting, a truck rumbling, or a dog barking—then repeating the sound and labeling it as “bird,” “truck,” or “dog.”

5. Introduce Sneaky Synonyms

When your child tells you something, respond in a way that introduces a synonym for the word they used. For example, if your child says that the dog was “really big,” you might reply and say it sounds “gigantic.” Reading Rockets, a website dedicated to helping kids learn to read, suggests that parents keep new words active since kids learn by repetition and practice. Don’t just say it once. Instead, find ways to work it into your conversation multiple times.

Extra Credit: Kids love telling stories. Give them a topic and have them tell you a story about it. This gives you ample opportunities to introduce sneaky synonyms in an organic way.

6. Use Word Play in Favorite Songs

Rhymes have always been used as a tool in learning, so it’s no surprise that kids love changing the lyrics for favorite songs. “When ‘Old Town Road’ was being played all the time on the radio, I changed the lyrics to I’m gonna take my mom to the grocery store, she’s gonna shop like she can’t no more…My kids caught on, and every time the song came on we’d make up a new grocery list, instead of singing the song’s actual lyrics,” said mother of four Renee Stafford.

Extra Credit: Along the same lines, you can kill plenty of time on long car rides by making a collaborative poem. One person starts the poem, then the next person adds a line, and on.

7. Write Stories

“Verbal and written vocabularies often don’t match up, with verbal vocabulary being stronger for many years because of the help of context clues within sentence structure,” says Prof. of Early Childhood Education and Literacy Meredith Cristofferson. One way to help bridge the gap? Have your kids write their own stories. It’s like working your back muscles to improve your abdomen’s strength. Creating context for words helps you develop your use of words, and helps you look for new ways to represent ideas.

Extra Credit: Give your kids a word bank and ask them to write a story using the words you’ve given them. Be sure and provide them with a list of verbs, nouns, adjectives, and adverbs.

Your child may not have any words yet, but they find ways to get their point across. While furious sobbing or tossing a bowl of applesauce may not be your preferred form of communication, trust me, these are good signs! When your child cries, gestures, or uses a facial expression, they’re expressing something: hunger, discomfort, frustration. They’re using nonverbal language, and that’s a stepping stone to speech.

Even before saying their first word, children make connections between their actions and getting their needs met. When your child cries and points to a toy, then you hand it to them, they’re figuring out these relationships so they can more easily communicate their needs later.

So never fear—at some point, your child will be able to express their wants more clearly than with screeching or tears. And as their caregiver, there’s a lot you can do to help that process along. Nurturing your child’s language development is time well spent. Not only does it help your child communicate, but it also supports literacy and comprehension, ultimately improving their academic success along with their emotional development.

Now for the best news: To help your toddler develop their language skills, the name of the game is play. Here are six fun and interactive playtime ideas to try at home. None of these is hard to build into your routine—and chances are, you’re doing some of them already.

1. Turn your home into a zoo—a noisy one.

Who doesn’t love animal sounds? They’re a perfect way to help your kiddo become more verbal. That’s because imitating sounds is a stepping stone to imitating words, and most kids get a kick out of meowing and mooing. To practice, gather up any toy animals you have. Or you can cut out pictures of animals from magazines or find some online to print out. Take turns showing these toys or pictures to your child and either making the sounds yourself or having your child mimic them.

If you’re feeling really creative, act out the animals as well. You can turn your hands into claws and “meow” like a cat or get on all fours and say “baaah” like a sheep. Encourage your child to copy you! One reason imitation is so important is that it teaches your baby the back-and-forth of communication, which is a foundation for early conversational skills.

2. Sing lots of songs (actual musical talent not required).

“Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” “Itsy, Bitsy Spider,” and “The Wheels on the Bus” are classics for a reason. Children love singing simple songs and nursery rhymes. Not only do they provide some great bonding time, but songs can also build vocabulary and help children learn and recognize the natural rhythm of speech.

There are lots of opportunities throughout the day to liven things up with music: Think car rides, chore time, bathtime, or waiting in line. And nursery rhymes that include hand gestures are another great way to teach your child imitation.

3. Get theatrical with a puppet show.

Inject some drama into your day with good old-fashioned puppets. Whether you’re using socks, brown lunch bags, or stuffed animals, it’s a great way to strike up a mock conversation between two lovable characters. Make sure your puppet asks your child’s puppet all sorts of questions (using silly and imaginative voices, of course).

4. Play a game of telephone.

And we don’t mean scrolling social media. For this, you can use a toy telephone, create one out of LEGOs or cardboard, or even use an old cellphone if you have one. Pretend that the phone is ringing and have your child “answer.” Whether they’re babbling into the receiver or using simple words like “hi” and “bye,” this activity helps set the stage for early conversation skills.

5. Make time for storytime.

You’ve probably heard it before, but it’s hard to overstate the importance of reading, even with babies and toddlers. Children start building the foundation for reading and writing in infancy. So when you establish a reading routine, you’re creating a good habit that will last a lifetime. Make storytime fun by choosing books that stimulate the imagination.

As you read, make sure to point to and label the pictures. If the page shows, say, a firetruck, you can engage your toddler by asking, “What sound does a firetruck make?” This will improve your child’s comprehension and expand their vocabulary.

6. Turn “I Spy” into “I Hear.”

Choose a few everyday items that your child is familiar with—a toy, a banana, a cup, a spoon—and place them on the table. Next, say to your child, “I spy something that starts with ‘bbbbb.’” Really exaggerate your sounds and give your child enough time to find the correct item—in this case, a banana.

Provide encouragement and a little assistance if needed, and if your child gets it right, pour on the praise! This game expands your child’s vocabulary and helps them make associations between sounds, words, and objects.

What if your child’s language doesn’t seem to develop at the rate you expect? Consider speaking with a speech-language pathologist. These communication experts can work with you and your child to evaluate, diagnose, and treat a potential language disorder or other communication challenge.

The earlier these issues are recognized and treated, the more progress your child will make. Make sure, too, that your speech therapist gives you additional language-building exercises to use at home with your child. When it comes down to it, you are your child’s best communication model.

Leanne Sherred, CCC-SLP, President and Co-Founder of Expressable, is acutely aware that communication is fundamentally human and vital to how we connect with others and express our feelings. Leanne champions parent-focused intervention and has developed a unique clinical model that is core to Expressable's product offering and value proposition.

It’s not really summer if you don’t go to an amusement park with the kids at some point, right? But which one is best for your family? We rounded up our favorite amusement parks near NYC, with kiddie rides for little kids, thrill rides for bigger kids and extra fun like water parks and beaches if you need it. For more fun this season, see our list of Must-Dos for summer 2022, our guide to Coney Island this year and our picks for the best outdoor water parks near NYC.

Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement & Kiddie Park in Brooklyn

Home to the iconic Wonder Wheel, this Coney Island classic amusement park has been in business since the 1920s. (Yes, the Wonder Wheel recently celebrated 100 years.) The park is, oddly, in between the two sections of the other amusement park at Coney, Luna Park. You pay per ride here (you don’t have to pay an admission fee to get in) and while there are rides for big and little kids, the kiddie rides are more the draw. (The park did introduce a new family thrill coaster, The Phoenix, last year.) Kiddie rides are 5 tickets each. You can buy a package of 50 for $45. While people afraid of heights should probably avoid the Wonder Wheel, it’s a must-do otherwise, providing incredible views of Conney Island, the beach and beyond.

Pro-tip: Fireworks on Fridays at 9:45 p.m. start July 9th. (Weather permitting)

Luna Park

Thrilling New Yorkers for decades, Luna Park is home to the famous Coney Island Cyclone, which celebrates 95 years this summer. You can pay per ride or buy a wristband for unlimited rides here. There are plenty of tamer rides for little kids (the tiny rollercoaster is a popular choice) and lots of thrillers like the Tickler, Thunderbolt, Steeplechase, and many more. Plus two new rides coming later this season.  Tony’s Express will be a family-friendly rollercoaster with over 1,200 feet of track and Leti’s Treasure will have 12 6-seater boats that will rise over 40 feet high the drop into water with a splash. Both are planned to open this summer so keep your eyes open for them. In addition to rides, you can try your luck (or skill) at many games and potentially head home with an oversized stuffie.

Check the calendar for hours, which fluctuate.
