Sports parents can attest to the fact that even though they love cheering on their favorite club team, they don’t enjoy standing outside in the freezing cold. Those days of shivering on the sidelines may be over.

The Chaheati Maxx Heated Chair looks to be the answer to this problem! Starting at $110 (there are a few versions available), the chair has four temperature settings, rechargeable battery and convenient carrying case.

Remember Doogie Howser, M.D., the show that gave Neil Patrick Harris his big break and had us all cheering for a teen doctor? Disney has reimagined that concept for the next generation with Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. The original series premieres September 8 on Disney+ and the trailer is available to watch now!

In Hawaii, 16-year-old Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha is juggling a budding medical career and the ups and downs of teenage life. Fortunately she’s supported by her close-knit (and hilarious) group of family and friends! The show is shot on location in O’ahu and it’s created and executive produced by Kourtney Kang (How I Met Your Mother, Fresh Off the Boat).

Peyton Elizabeth Lee stars as Lahela and the show promises a number of top guest stars. Keep your eyes out for Margaret Cho, Randall Park, Jae Suh Park, Max Greenfield and more.

“Thirty years ago, a young medical prodigy took the world by storm and left a lasting impact on pop culture,” said Ricky Strauss, president, Content and Marketing, Disney+. “Kourtney and the team at 20th Television have created a very modern take on this beloved property which will resonate with our global Disney+ audience. We can’t wait to introduce the world to the new Doogie!”

New episodes will drop every Wednesday on Disney+. We’re excited to watch a classic show revamped for Gen Z! For all the latest Disney+ drops, make sure you check out our ongoing coverage.

A Reimagining of “Doogie Howser, M.D” Is Coming to Disney+

It’s cool to be kind. And it turns out, despite what you might hear in the news, Americans are pretty good at in general. So as you model kindness for your kids at home, check out this new data from Verizon and Kindness.org: a first-of-its-kind academic research study to find out the state of kindness in the U.S.

People in all 50 states took part in the survey and most (86%) said they’d donate part of their liver to a family member. Nearly three in four would lend money to a friend in financial crisis and more than half would donate their vacation time to a colleague.

The kindest things you can do for others? Respondents ranked becoming an organ donor for a family member, pulling someone from a burning car and adopting and raising a family member as the top three. Other popular measures of kindness include covering a work shift for a colleague, cheering up a family member or calling a friend to encourage them.

You and your family can get involved in Verizon’s “A Call For Kindness” campaign by signing an online pledge, downloading kindness cards and visiting murals with encouraging messages around the country. And if you’re looking for activities just for kids, Kindness.org has developed a whole K-8 curriculum that teaches students to Learn Kind, plus a series of easy-to-use activities.

Kindness Is Our Superpower

“Parents” Survey Finds Kindness Is Most Important Value

Dear Family Members,

Hey, it’s me! I was looking at some old photos the other day and stumbled across our family reunion ones. Do you remember how awful we all looked? I mean it was the 80s and we all thought we were probably super cool with that hair and those clothes. I don’t know about you but looking back made me cringe.

I know through the years we grew up and life happened. I kept up with the news on you through my folks. I wasn’t great about keeping in touch personally and take full responsibility for that.

But then the era of social media dawned. I found you and “friended” you. I celebrated when you had great news and when the news wasn’t great, I mourned with you.  Because you are family and family means a lot to me I always wanted you to know I was there for you.

Recently though I noticed something, that our relationship has been rather one-sided. I know you are super busy with your life and there are the algorithms of social media but I started to wonder something. Do I ever cross your mind?

You may roll your eyes, but I’m being serious. I’m not saying you have to think about me 24/7 in some sort of weird stalker-like way, but honestly, do you ever scroll through the posts or talk to your folks about us?

I know we choose a very different path. You have a great career and these amazing smart children who could be fashion models. We adopted two special needs kids. I’m a stay at home mom who likes to bake and read.

Our differences may be glaring but at the heart of it, we both have a strong love for our children and lives. I’m no less proud of my son’s ability to get that B with his profound learning disabilities or my daughter’s learning to sit independently at nine years old than you are of your son’s making the debate team or your daughter making all-stars cheering. I’m just as excited that I am volunteering at our local hospital as I am about your big promotion.

This last week was awful. My daughter ended up in the hospital. Her platelet count had gotten to dangerous levels, she had an infection and to top it off part of her lung had collapsed. I was dazed, scared, and cried at least 20 times a day. I have honestly never been so frightened in my life. We came very close to losing her. Even though we are home now she is still in the danger zone. I am up around the clock making sure she is still safe.

One night while I was watching her oxygen I was scrolling through social media and saw you having a huge argument with another family member. It wasn’t even anything important. But it made me sad. You took a huge amount of time to argue a little point but couldn’t take 10 seconds to check in on us. Your silence was deafening.

Now, we have support. I have an amazing group of friends and our parents. We are loved. But to hear from you would have meant something. It would make a scary and confusing time a little bit better.

I would love to chalk this up to media algorithms, but this one-sided relationship has gone on for years now. I have been given all sorts of advice on how to handle it. Unfriend, pointed comments, the list was quite long.

But I have a better idea. I’m going to keep on cheering for you. The world is so broken and hurting right now, we don’t need another reason to be divided.  I’ll be there for you. When you celebrate and when you mourn. My love for you is unconditional and though reciprocation is nice, it’s not necessary. You are family and family is everything to me.

Sincerely,

Your Family Member

You’ve probably seen all the museums around the world you can visit right from your living room, but have you checked out all of the webcams in NYC that will help you take a virtual tour of the city? Via live streaming, you can check in on famous tourist spots like Times Square, familiar landmarks (Statue of Liberty) and take in literal bird’s eye views of the city. The main resource for live webcam views worldwide is Earthcam.com; and in some cases, you can use the site’s interface to move the camera, zoom in, or hear what’s happening by unmuting a mic. (Find those options in the lower left hand corner of the window.) Gather round and soak up what is currently an admittedly quieter NYC with the kids via these live NYC cams.

Times Square

You can take your pick of views of the Crossroads of the World: Broadway, Duffy Square, the Pedestrian Plaza, etc. Of course, this is Times Square as you've likely never seen it—without a lot of people. Still, when we dropped in virtually we spotted one of NYC's beloved characters: The Naked Cowboy himself, strolling with his guitar and cheering on fellow New Yorkers from a safe distance. Yee-haw! (And yes, come back here on New Year's Eve to catch all the action in the comfort of your own home!)

Fifth Avenue looks peaceful and patriotic these days—American flags flap in the wind, kind of reminding us of this 100-year-old painting, which you can go see at the New-York Historical Society one day. There's a nice view of St. Patrick's Cathedral as well.

Right now everyone is looking for some good news. John Krasinski just created a YouTube channel to share heartwarming stories with people stuck at home during the coronavirus pandemic. Along with highlighting good news, Steve Carell made an appearance to mark the 15th anniversary of The Office.

Near the end of the show, Krasinski talks to a teenager who went viral over the weekend. Courtney “Coco” Johnson returned home from her last chemotherapy treatment last week and was surprised by a group of her friends cheering her on from a safe distance.

“I wrote to your mom and told her that I cried for a very long time after watching that, just pure joy,” Krasinski tells her. “You guys rock for sharing that with the rest of the world.”

When Michigan couple Andrea Melvin and Dave Eaton recently adopted their foster son, Michael Clark Jr., the little boy came to court with a cheering section—his kindergarten class!

Kent County’s family court finalized the adoption of 37 children (all of who came from the foster care system) this week on its annual Adoption Day Thursday. Along with 36 other kiddos, Michael finally got the chance to have his forever home.

According to WOOD TV8, 17th Circuit Court Family Division Judge Patricia Gardner announced, during the adoption proceedings, “I understand we are joined by Michael’s kindergarten classroom and teacher.” Not only did Michael’s entire class come to support him, but each child held up a special heart on a stick to celebrate the little boy’s big day.

Kerry McKee, Michael’s teacher at Wealthy Elementary in East Grand Rapids, told WOOD TV8, “The lesson is put a little love in your heart. We rise when we support others.”

Even though most Michigan adoptions are confidential, on Adoption Day Thursday the families share and celebrate this momentous day with anyone and everyone they want to. In Michael’s case, that includes his teacher and classmates.

So why did Michael invite his entire class to the adoption proceedings? The kindergartner’s dad told WOOD TV8, “We asked him and he said, ‘You know, the class is kind of my family.’ And he wanted them to be there.”
