Strollers wagons for kids have tons of benefits you should know

You know who loves stroller wagons even more than kids? Parents. Stroller wagons are kids’ favorite places to ride since they’re roomy enough for friends, stuffies and snacks. These sweet rides will serve your family long after your child can walk, for toting tired kids, park gear, pets and more. If you need more convincing, read on.

Larktale

1. You don’t have to rush home for nap time.
A wagon lets your kid curl up when sleepytime hits. The Larktale Caravan Stroller/Wagon ($480; shown above) has padded seats that individually recline for each rider's comfort. Flip down seats for a flat base where kids can stretch out.

2. It holds multiple kids.
Whether you have a large family or a friend group of kids to tote around, stroller wagons like the W4 Luxe Quad Stroller Wagon ($900) can hold up to 4 kids.

3. You'll give your back a break.
If you're wearing all the babies (and carrying all the gear), let a wagon do the work. A stroller wagon has room for kids and deep pockets for necessities. Plus, the push/pull system makes maneuvering the unit easy on your core muscles.

4. It folds flat.
If you have a full-size stroller, you're intimately familiar with the lack of free trunk space you have once these monstrosities are loaded into your car. Stroller wagons usually fold flat and take up less space, leaving room for that cooler you want to tote in your can-do-all wagon.

5. It can handle rough terrain.
If you find yourself carrying your stroller (with baby onboard) over grassy patches and rocky paths, consider a wagon that can handle off-roading, like the Veer Cruiser ($700; shown above) or the Evenflo Pivot Xplore All-Terrain Stroller Wagon ($316). Bring it to the beach, park, nature trail, wherever your adventures take you. Pop the Veer Misting Fan ($49) into the cup holder on your Cruiser—or any wagon with a standard-size cup holder—to keep cool on warm days.

6. It can haul more than just kids.
A wagon makes it easy to tote all of your baby stuff along with anything else you may need for the day. Going to a park? Bring a cooler filled with food and drinks for the family. Headed to the beach? Pile all the beach toys, chairs and boogie boards in these double-duty cribs-on-wheels. Some even have cupholders to carry beverages.

7. Your big kids can use it too.
If you have an older child who still gets tired on all-day outings but is too leggy (and heavy) for a stroller, you'll want a wagon. While most strollers max out at 40 pounds, a stroller wagon's seat can hold kids 50 pounds and up. Most top out at 65 pounds, but the overall capacity of these heavy-duty units starts at 100 pounds, so even kids who no longer fit in seats can still take a rest.

8. It's easy to clean.
Due to the wagon's boxy design, there aren't many hidden spaces for goldfish and raisins to hide. Some wagons have extra padding to make the utility design more comfortable, but these cushions can usually be tossed in the wash for easy cleaning. You can even hose down the models meant for rugged terrain. Yes, you read that right: You can take your hose to the Keenz wagons—no spot cleaning here.

Gladly Family

9. It gives adults a place to rest.
Wagons like the 3-in-1 Tailgater Wagon by Radio Flyer ($110) feature a drop-down side so anyone (yes, we're looking at you, tired parents!) can grab a seat. Take this wagon to a kids sporting event or pull it along on your next outdoor adventure and you're guaranteed a dry, elevated seat for those who don't want to criss-cross applesauce on the grass. Plus, there's a stow-away caddy to hold a cooler or folding chairs.

10. Kids can self-board.
Older kids will love to hop on and off the stroller wagon, but some wagons even have a zip-door entry so younger kids can self-board, making trips on the go easier and faster. Brands like Wonderfold make it easier for kids of all ages and abilities to enter the wagon on their own (but the zipper deters stealthy kiddos from hopping off without some assistance).

11. It offers sun protection.
Wagons have canopies that stretch horizontally to cover the entire unit, which means your baby's delicate skin isn't in direct sunlight. Gladly Family's Anthem4 4-Seater All-Terrain Wagon Stroller ($649, shown above; also comes in a 2-seater, $499) has two extra-large canopies that zip up for total protection from sun, wind and rain.

12. It's useful long after your kids have outgrown it.
There will come a point when your child will no longer fit in the wagon (sniff). But the wagon has lots of life and purpose left in it. From camping trips to picnics in the park and gardening out back, wagons are the Giving Tree of strollers, holding all sorts of gear and tools. Kind of like wipes, you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.

Art is all around us—you don’t have to go to a stuffy museum to introduce your kids to the fine arts. We’ve rounded up 18 jaw-dropping outdoor art installations across the country that the whole family will appreciate. Some are interactive and others are just larger than life, but all of them are well worth a visit. Keep reading to see them all.

Westmoreland Park Nature Play Area | Portland, OR

Zach R. via Yelp

Art that looks good and can be touched? Sounds like our kind of place. A popular spot for kids and adults alike, take a peek at our insider’s guide to find out more.

Lupe the Mammoth | San Jose, CA

Affectionately named “Lupe,” this metal pipe rendering of a wooly mammoth was designed by LA artists Feyja Bardell and Brian Howe. It was installed on the Guadalupe Trail in 2015 and represents the spot where the bones of a 12,500-year-old mammoth were discovered 10 years earlier. While kids can’t touch or climb on the structure, it’s a perfect way to get them excited for a day of science and fun before heading to the nearby San Jose Children’s Museum, where a replica of the prehistoric animal can be found. Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum | Austin, TX

This woodsy, magical garden inspires creativity for all. Not only is it a wonderful place to wander through at your own leisure, but the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum caters to families as well. The permanent collection is filled with the works of Charles Umlauf, a prestigious sculpture who taught at the University of Texas, Austin for 40 years. Each sculpture is gently waxed, and touching is okay (climbing is not). Stop by on family day, the second Sunday of each month, for art-making, sculpture demos, family yoga, live music, and storytelling. Family days are free, and the rest of the time, admission is just $7 for adults and free for kids under 12. Get more information about the museum here.

Sun Tunnels | Lucin, UT

Drew Tadd via Pixabay

Four huge tunnels sitting in a desert leading nowhere might not seem like art, but there’s definitely more than meets the eye with this installation. Just looking through one of these can reframe how you see your surroundings, and the shadows they cast can teach little ones about sun orientation. Plus, they are just totally awesome to run through!

555 Mission St. Sculpture Garden | San Francisco, CA

These Igloo Coolers Will Keep Your Drinks as Cold as a Villain’s Heart

Photo: Marissa Goldstein Rafi Nova

This past April, my family took our first post-pandemic trip. We packed our two sets of twins (ages five and three), laptops, bag-o-cords, luggage, bikes, scooters, double-stroller, and a kid-sized port-a-potty into our minivan and drove from Boston to Orlando and back. We drove, and drove, and drove. We spent more than 46 hours in the car covering 13 states. We had so much fun in those 2800 miles that I’m already planning a 4-week road trip to the West Coast for the summer.

Traveling is our passion and our business. We lived in Vietnam for two years. While we were there, we traveled to 20 countries with our first set of twins strapped to our back. Those trips inspired us to create our family-focused travel accessory brand Rafi Nova and our first product: a carry-all bag built for life-with-kids that moms actually want to wear long after the bottles and diapers phase.

After traveling thousands of miles with four kids, there are 3 simple hacks that keep my husband and me sane and our kiddos happy. They fall into 3 buckets: Packing, Planning, & Being Present.

Hack #1: PACKING: Prepare to be unprepared.

Want to enjoy the everyday adventure more? Prepare but don’t over-prepare. If you over-prepare (especially with young children), you’ll spend hours packing but only use a fraction of it while you spend hours reorganizing it. Pack the essentials, and leave the rest. Let’s unpack (ha!) this happy medium:

What to Pack:

  • Pack for 4 days max—no matter the length of the trip.

  • Use a laundry bag to store dirty clothes, and plan to do laundry every 3-4 days. Less packing means less organizing, and kids LOVE laundromats!

  • Pack diapers and wipes for 5 days. Restock along the way.

  • Pack a small extra bag with 2 days worth of clothing for roadside emergencies and late-night check-ins.

  • One packing cube per person (except, of course, Mom—she gets as many as she wants).

  • Pack all shoes together in their own bag.

  • Pack all toiletries and first aid items together in their own bag.

  • Store snacks and drinks in a car cooler. Separating snacks like goldfish, popcorn, and granola bars into ziplock bags makes them easy grab-and-go options. Pouch yogurts, apple sauce, and cheese sticks are other favorites (kept in the cooler filled with ice-packed Ziplocks).

Hack #2: PLANNING: Less is more.

  • Have a destination planned out (in our case—Disney) but make the trip about the journey rather than the destination. REMEMBER THAT PART. Just like life, it’s about the journey, not just the destination.

  • Think about places and stops you want to make along the way but leave time to be spontaneous. We planned two stops; our alma mater, the University of Maryland, and Charleston for some southern charm. All other visits were spur of the moment. In Charleston, we heard that Amelia Island was the place to go—so we spent two nights there instead of Hilton Head. In Richmond, we stumbled upon the best park ever and spent a day playing with the kids. In DC, we happened upon the Presidential motorcade, stopped and showed the kids Civil War history in Fredericksburg, VA, and in Georgia, we stopped at a peach farm after seeing a sign for it.

  • A road trip with kids is far more enjoyable if you stay flexible and go with the flow. Your family will be miserable if you try it any other way.

Hack #3: BE PRESENT: Embrace the chaos.

We’re often planning for the future or analyzing and complaining about the past. Staying present and enjoying the journey will make all the difference on your trip. However, it can be hard to practice when your smartphone is also competing for your attention. So first, know what does not work for your family. For us, strict and busy schedules, extended seated meals (no surprise), and long walks (instead we use those stroller, bikes, and scooters) never, ever work. So what did work for us?

Keeping expectations low, a flexible schedule, and adapting to our kids’ needs and interests.

We prioritized:

  • Being good partners. We give each other “time off.” One of us takes the kids outside while the other gets time for themselves, even if it’s only 15 minutes. This is a game-changer and keeps us both a lot happier.

  • Reminding each other to put down our phones and engage the kids (trust me—not all the time, but not infrequently either).

  • Bringing the stroller everywhere. This allows the kids to be buckled in and us to exercise our bodies and minds.

Our family motto is life is chaotic—and it works for us. Life cannot be scripted, and things will not always go as planned. We embrace the chaos and explore the new opportunities it presents to us. We’ve discovered so many amazing surprises by being open to adventure.

In a nutshell, prepare to be unprepared, be curious, and embrace each day as it unfolds (amazing things will come of it)! The present is really all there is, and it’s where little kids hang out and thrive! See how much our little ones taught us in 20 days?

From the sand toys to the snacks, a family day at the beach inevitably means lugging around a ton of gear. That sandy trek is about to get easier, however, thanks to this incredible all-in-one beach chair wagon.

The convertible chair from Mac Sports is cooler than any Transformer in your toy box. It’s a two-in-one beach chair and wagon combo that give you a hand carrying all your beach accessories across the sand and then gives you a comfy spot to rest after.

The wagon chair is equipped with wide tires so it can roll smoothly across the sand, unlike those narrow stroller wheels. It can carry up to 100 pounds so you can toss in everything but the kitchen sink (or maybe that too).

The chair features a head rest, in case you actually find a minute to lounge between building sandcastles and chasing waves. You can score this incredible find on Amazon for $107.40.
