Those darn darts from your kiddo’s Nerf blaster are everywhere. Now you don’t need to crawl around the carpet, picking up each individual piece of foam from the floor.

The Nerf Elite Dart Rover is the toy cleaning tool you need right now. The Dart Rover looks like a mini lawn mower, but doesn’t cut down your carpeting. Instead, the River picks up those pesky little Nerf darts with a simple swipe.

photo: Amazon

Instead of a one by one pick-up process, this genius machine lets you grab up to 100 darts at a time. Along with the super-picker up potential, the Dart Rover also comes with non-slip wheels (which are perfect for your non-carpeted floors) and an adjustable handle. A mesh net basket catches darts as they fly off the floor and into the Rover.

Built for kids ages eight and up (and moms and dads too!), this grabber gadget gives your child the chance to clean up their own Nerf-tastrophy—instead of you playing the role of dart keeper.

This quick catcher retails for $29.99. Nab The Nerf Elite Dart Rover online at Amazon.

Some expectant moms have their hospital bag sitting by the front door weeks in advance, while other moms throw a few things in their duffel bag as they’re timing contractions. No matter how prepared you are, it’s important to pack the essentials such as comfy pajamas, slippers, lip balm and according to one Wisconsin mom, a Nerf gun.

Samantha Mravik-Miller shared a photo to Facebook from her hospital bed after delivering her baby. Instead of a picture of her new baby, it was a picture of the Nerf gun she packed in her hospital bag to make sure her husband didn’t sleep through the night while she was awake with a newborn.

Nerf Gun

Having been through labor and delivery before, she knew what to expect. Mravik-Miller said, “This came about because when my son (who’s almost 6) was born my husband slept through him crying when we were in the hospital. I had lost my voice due to being on oxygen and one of the nights my call button was also out of reach. I remember having to throw an empty water bottle at him to try and wake him up to help me.”

This time around Mravik-Miller was having a scheduled c-section so she knew she would need more help than with her previous delivery. As she was picking up the house before leaving for the hospital she spotted the Nerf gun and thought to herself, “I’ll have better aim with this than a water bottle!”

After the excitement of welcoming her new son, Mravik-Miller forgot all about packing the Nerf gun until she asked her husband to grab something out of her bag. When he asked her about it, she said, “All the better to wake you with!”

25 Parenting Hacks You Need in Your Life

Now you’re littlest of littles can enjoy the magic of the Wizarding World. Baby care brand aden + anais recently launched a new Harry Potter Limited Collection—and it features everything from burpy bibs to full-sized blankets.

The collab between aden + anais and Warner Bros. Consumer Products includes four print designs, each with a distinct Potter theme. Look for Snitch Dot, Invisibility Cloak, Hedwig and Hogwarts Grounds patterns in the brand’s muslin collection.

Christina Campisi, Director of Integrated Marketing for aden + anais said in a press release, “Many first generation Wizarding World fans are now having families of their own, and we want to inspire them to continue passing down the Harry Potter fandom to their own children through this collection.”

Collection designer Lauren Hauck, Associate Textile Designer for aden + anais added, “What I loved about reading Harry Potter stories growing up is that they evoked visuals that sprung to life before my eyes.”

Hauck continued, “I wanted to do the same with the designs we created for the aden + anais Harry Potter Limited Edition Collection. Majority of the collection artwork is hand drawn or hand painted, including everybody’s favorite imagery. In the ‘Snitch dot’ design, we etched the Snitch as it darts through the sky, the sketchy circles imitating the shadowy glimpse you catch as it quickly escapes your eye through painted clouds. For the ‘invisibility cloak’ design, we portray the famous lightning bolt, and the six-point stars that imprint the pages of every Harry Potter book.”

The collection includes swaddle three-packs and singles, burpy bibs, dream blankets, light sleeping bags and oversized muslin blankets. You can find the Harry Potter Limited Edition Collection ($22.95-$174.95) in select retail stores and online at www.adenandanais.com until it sells out. Hint, hint: We think that might be soon!

The JuJuBe Harry Potter Flying Keys Line of Bags Is Seriously Magical

Pottery Barn Teen’s New “Fantastic Beasts” Collection Is Pure Magic

“Today is a gift. That’s why they call it the present.”

Or, how about the most cliché saying: “Time flies!”

Whatever your favorite or most hated cliché saying about time is, there are so many because time is so important to us. We hate to waste it. Then we want it to pass quickly. Then we realize we don’t have enough of it.

How do we utilize our time and make the most of it? How do we grapple with this love-hate relationship with time? I’m not trying to suggest ways to squeeze as much as you can into your waking hours or give tips on how to be super efficient and  check everything off your to-do list. It is funny though that I’m now bringing up my awesome Passion Planner that I use to hand-write my weekly schedule, goals, dreams, and doodles. But it’s not my endless to-do lists or calendaring that I want to share. What I want to share is something that I find so simple and silly at the same time. There is a section for your daily focus and I often pencil in mindfulness or being present. And then I never do it. Such a seemingly easy thing to do, yet so hard and silly that I have to be reminded to do it.

What’s the best way to define “mindfulness”? To put it simply, it’s being present in the moment. Being present and aware of your feelings, thoughts, and body. I think this is a good start if you want to be more mindful of your time. My mind moves at a million miles per minute. I am a self-proclaimed multi-tasking queen, but that comes at the expense of never being fully present wherever I am. Or never getting to the big things that will make a real impact. A recurring problem for me is story time with my son at night. I love reading together and we do it every night, but as I’m reading Steam Train, Dream Train or Are You My Mother? for the thousandth time, I’m constantly thinking about what to do once he falls asleep.

I start to read, “Through the darkness clickety-clack…” And as I’m reading the words, my mind wanders and I think about how many loads of laundry I can get done tonight. And I ask myself whether or not I should bake muffins for tomorrow. I try to remember the things that I need to order from Amazon. “A whistle blares out in the night,” I continue, while reminding myself to schedule a gas delivery at work tomorrow so I can run out of the office and start the long trek home without having to make any stops. And this goes on and on until I finally whisper, “chhhhhh…goodnight.”

When I was kid, I saw this saying somewhere. “To say ‘Time is money’ is an insult to time.” I think it was a billboard or maybe a commercial on TV. I didn’t have enough life experience as a kid to truly grasp the meaning of it, but I get it now. More than ever.

I currently find myself in a job that I absolutely hate. I find my mind wandering to places I want to be or to things I wish I could be doing or to people I’d rather be spending my time with. When I think about how fleeting time is, I often see these flashes of my son quickly growing up before my eyes. Then my mind darts back to my college years and how I ended up where I am today. Should I have gone to school elsewhere? Should I have taken my chances with this or that? Should I take my chances and take a big risk now? I can’t go back and change things, but I can embrace the here and now and realize that there’s no time like the present.

Years from now, when Tyler is in school or away at college, do I want to look back on how amazing my multi-tasking was? That I could seemingly be the most put-together mom who didn’t shirk my parenting duties or work because I just did it all? Or how I was so good at establishing routine and order? Probably not. I want my memories to be filled with the nights (almost every night) that my two-year old stayed up later than he should because we were cuddling and getting lost in storybooks about trains and night owls. I want my memories to be filled with the countless times we pushed toy trucks around and used our imaginations to be silly and make up games and songs and laughed until we couldn’t breathe. Not the way I rushed through our bedtime routine so that I could quickly move onto chores and meaningless stuff. You have to run a household and do adult things like laundry and grocery shopping, but most times, those things can wait. The laundry will still be there in the morning as much as you don’t want it to be. You can always run to the store or order groceries. But you can never replace or replenish that precious time.

When I’m retired years (many many years) from now, whether I’m rolling in piles of cash, or living frugally, do I want to see the same monotonous routine day in and day out? Just mechanically going through the motions? Do I want to remember hating my job and being stuck where I was because I didn’t do anything about it? No. I want to remember the risks I took, the projects I worked on, and the lessons I learned. I want to think back and remember that even if I failed along the way, I pursued the dreams that were most meaningful to me. I want to be able to go to sleep every night knowing that I contributed to my family, community, and self to my fullest potential. That I filled my life with people and things that added positive value to it, and that in turn, I did the same.

It is important to have an awareness of time and understand how valuable it is, but it’s worthless if you don’t act upon that knowledge. For me, it’s a work in progress, but I aim to be present in the moment and I aim to thoughtfully spend my time in ways that reflect what I value. The time is now!

Hi! I'm Kathee! I hope to inspire and find inspiration in my everyday. I love to share stories and I enjoy opportunities that allow me to be creative. Family, food, crafting, and planning are my passions. I'm excited to join the Red Tricycle community and can't wait to connect!

We’ve all been there: you walk into your living room and boom! It looks like an entire LEGO Store just exploded all over your carpet. Well one mama from Australia has a LEGO cleanup hack that you absolutely, positively need to know about.

Yes, you can use those dainty digits on the ends of your hands to grip and rip the LEGO mess from the floor. But the time it takes to pick up each individual plastic brick could seriously make you cry.

Photo: efraimschochter via Pixabay

So what can you do to solve this toy-mess issue? Just look to mom Ange Dobbin’s super-smart hack that she added to the Kmart Mums Australia Facebook page. According to The Daily Mail, Dobbin shared, “Went and bought a pooper scooper today and it’s the best $8 I have spent for picking up my son’s Lego.”

Um yep. Dobbin’s suggestion is to use a pooper scooper. Mind you, a clean, unused pooper scooper. (Another clever mama also suggested using the scoop for those little foam NERF darts too.)

Photo: Amazon

The scooper idea is so practical and simple that it’s one many of us have probably overlooked. And the beauty of it is, you can find a one online—like this 36-inch foldable jaw clamp scooper from AmazonBasics for just $15—or in just about any dollar store. Simply scoop, empty and enjoy a clean floor! #Genius

You Guys—Target Totally Has a Secret App

The Hottest Holiday Toys of 2018 You Should Buy Right Now

How to Get the New Harry Potter LEGO Sets Before Anyone Else (Thanks, Target!)

You may have heard there’s a new axe-throwing joint in town. So did we. And they told us kids as young as seven can try their hand at it. That’s a proposition that’s too hard to resist, so we wrangled up some kids to check out the appropriately-named, Kick Axe.

Get Your Axe in There!
Located on what is clearly becoming an “xtreme sports” alley of sorts in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn (the block is also home to Homage skateboard shop and facility, Brooklyn Boulders, Brooklyn Fnecing, and a cross fit gym) Kick Axe obviously fits right in.

photo: Kick Axe

Come in From the Cold and Chill
We were admittedly slightly terrified of the prospect of throwing axes around, but the giant blue bull that greets visitors outside, and a downright cozy interior with a ski chalet vibe make us feel right at home.

In addition to  a gas fireplace, lots of plaid and furry throws, Kick Axe provides plenty of opportunities for good old fashioned fun in the form of games ranging from Jenga to Connect Four to vintage Operation and more.

photo: Kick Axe

The Ranges
Beyond the cozy lounging areas lie the axe-throwing ranges, roomy, “pens” fenced off on three sides with a wood target on the wall, a la darts.

Safety First!
Of course, the first thing you do upon entering is sign a waiver, because axes. You can do that in advance if you like.
Our party included five adults, an 11 year-old, a seven year-old, and an eight-and-a-half year old.

Kick Axe knows that most people visitng the place think the idea is at least a little bit crazy, and so each party has its own “Axepert” on hand to not only set some ground rules, teach the basics of axe-throwing, and calm and nerves.

Before you begin, everyone gets some one-on-one instruction and some trial throws.

Throwing Down
The basic game itself, is pretty standard. (Presumably there are more intricate axe games, but we weren’t ready for that.) Your group (maximum players per range is eight) is assembled into two teams, who then face off in pairs at the range, with only one person throwing at a time. Everyone puts on a name tag with their real or axe-throwing moniker.

Each ring on the target has a point value, and the bullseye is of course the ideal spot to hit. We played ’til 30 in one round, and then played one more. The total time for play is an hour and a half.

Is it Hard? Is it Fun?
It turns out that axe-throwing is not as hard as you would think, although it can take a while to get the hang of it. That said, when axe meets wood it’s very satisfying, and once you’ve done that, you want to do it again. By the time we were done, even the seven-year-old with us was sinking the blade in and hitting the bull’s eye.

(Kids can also stand closer to the target for increased chances of success, and for really little ones, the lounge now has rubber axes for kids to throw, scoring based on where they hit the target and bounce off. One-handed throwing is also allowed, which can make things easier.)

How Much Does it Cost to Do This Crazy Thing?
If you and the family want to drop by for some axe-throwing fun, it’s $35 per person plus tax. Book online in advance. if you want a private range, request one, but you may end up playing with strangers depending on how busy things are. (Either way you’ll have fun.)

Sound like a great idea for a party? (Personally, we want to see a badass group of eight-year-old girls do this.) Semi-private party rates start at $525 for two ranges and 24 people. That’s the discount rate offered Mon.-Thurs.; it’s $700 Fri.-Sun.

Kick Axe has basic drinks for sale (soda, water, seltzer, and yes, they do sell beer but eject anyone who’s had too much) and very basic food. However, you’re free to bring in pizza and cake (no ice cream cake) or whatever your little axe-throwers desire.
