When the late comedian Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda used the “Which Disney Character Are You?” filter something pretty special happened—the filter chose the Genie from Aladdin!

While most of us don’t stand a chance of getting our father’s character’s filter, Zelda clearly does. As most Disney, and Williams, fans know, the late actor voiced the beloved character in the 1992 iconic animated flick.

The 30-year-old posted a clip of the Disney filter selection on Twitter recently—much to the delight of her father’s fans. Along with more than two million views, the video also garnered plenty of sweet responses.

One fan commented, “That’s awesome. Divine intervention for sure” and another wrote, “More like Pops saying hello.”

It’s been 25 years since the queen of pop accomplished something very few modern musical artists have by creating an original hit holiday song. Now you can learn all about how Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” came to life in a mini documentary on Amazon.

Carey revealed the trailer for the new Amazon documentary, Mariah Carey is Christmas! in an Instagram post captioned. “Can’t wait to share this with you guys!”

The documentary follows the story of Carey’s now famous song and features interviews with the star herself as well as producer Randy Jackson. The trailer shows Jackson admitting that he initially thought a modern holiday song could be this much of a hit. Carey is shown saying, “I just remember where I was coming from, wanting it to feel like a classic. It was an accomplishment for me that I was really proud of.”

In honor of the anniversary Legacy Recordings also released Carey’s “Merry Christmas 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.” The compilation includes the original album and a disc featuring previously unreleased live tracks from her 1994 St. John The Divine Benefit Concert, rare remixes and a new rendition of the “Sugar Plum Fairy.”

Jeans and a tee is the classic kid uniform. But when special occasions strike — weddings, holiday tea, a trip to “The Nutcracker,” or anywhere you want to put your dressiest foot forward — it’s good to have some essentials in the kiddie closet. Here are 9 things to have on hand.

1. A killer bow tie.
Where to wear it: Fall and winter weddings. Your dapper lil’ dude might not be ring bearer, but he’ll vie for the spotlight with a bright, patterned clip bow tie.
Where to buy it: The coral double gingham clip tie shown here is from Etsy seller Divine Domestication. $15 at etsy.com.

2. Graphic tights
Where to wear them: The school play or a class recital. Whether starring role or pretty place in the choir, a girl needs a little drama. Pair a skirt with a tights pattern that pops.
Where to buy them: You could go to a department store, but we’re partial to the multitude of styles from Oakland, California-based Luna Leggings. $32 at lunaleggings.com.

3. Patent leather shoes
Where to wear them: They are more versatile than they seem! Get them in a fun color, wear them with bobby socks and a skirt and you can trot off to school. Or, be dressier with classic black, paired with tights and a dress and you’ll have the perfect outfit for your mommy-and-me date to “The Nutcracker.”
Where to buy them: Zappos has great deals. We also love the pair in this photo in Mary Jane style from Bella Bliss. $70 at bellabliss.com.

4. A tweed vest.
Where to wear it: With a timeless tweed vest, your small wonder can make like Sherlock Holmes (if he was pint-sized and loved skateboarding). If the little fella has to tag along to Mom or Dad’s holiday office party, this is a sweet look.
Where to buy one: Support a mom-run small business and browse the handmade styles on Etsy. We fell in love with this lil’ tweed number offered by Maggie Bogart. $44 at etsy.com.

5. A tulle dress
Where to wear it: Holiday tea. Whether at an upscale hotel or at American Girl Place, it’s a great excuse to get dressy. Remember, pinkies up!
Where to buy it: The cotton and tulle confection shown here is from Little Hands and is available on Amazon. Around $20 at amazon.com.

6. A colorful shrug.
Where to wear it: Go for a walk and check out all the holiday lights. Or pick a main drag and do some window shopping. When the wind whips and it gets chilly, you can have one at the ready.
Where to get one: Get crafty (or tap into the talents of a crafty friend) and knit one from scratch. You’ll get the color of your choice — and bragging rights. In this photo is a beautifully textured one from Craftsy. Pattern available for digital download for $3.25 at craftsy.com.

7. Dark black jeans.
Where to wear them: The question is … where not to wear them? Black jeans are great anywhere, anytime. But they’re especially great for family photos when you want to bump it up a notch from the usual faded blues.
Where to get them: Finding them won’t be trouble. And, oh, the options — pick from straight-leg, boot cut, loose fit or skinny. The ones shown here are classic skinnies from The Children’s Place. $7.80 at childrensplace.com.

8. A fedora.
Where to wear it: Pop on this topper for a big family gathering — grandma and grandpa will melt. Plus, a fedora makes your kiddo will instantly look more laid-back (even if he is having a public meltdown).
Where to buy it: Kid fedoras don’t exactly grow on trees, but there is a nice selection (including this preppy straw option) at Melondipity. $19.99 at melondipity.com.

9. A headband with bling.
Where to wear it: It’s the season of sparkle and even a little hint will do. Jazz up a trip to see Santa with a sequin-, rhinestone- or pearl-adorned headband.
Where to buy it: Claire’s is everywhere and has several choices. If you’re feeling ambitious, do like blogger MayDae did in this pic and make your own (she used faux leaves from the craft store). Click here for the tutorial.

Bonjour Seattle! It’s time for Madison Valley’s second annual Bastille Day bash where you and your kids can say “oui, oui” too all things French from 3:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. this Saturday, July 13. Come dive in to French culture from food, live music and performances. And did we mention, it’s free?

While Seattle is no Paris (sigh, we wish!), Madison Valley, with its sweet boutiques, divine places to grab a bite and a glass of wine, and picturesque sidewalks that are perfect for strolling, will be the perfect substitute.

A Little History:
A traditional French holiday, Bastille Day honors the day the French reclaimed their prison, Bastille, on July 14, 1789. This was a pivotal moment during the French Revolution and to the people of France, Bastille Day represents freedom for their country and for French families. Bastille Day is celebrated with parades, delicious meals and a day off to spend with loved ones.

How you and yours can participate this year:
Grab the kiddos and come join in on all the great fun Bastille Day has to offer. Festivities will be held on East Madison Street, between 27th and 30th Avenues to be exact and we promise, there’s enough fun for everyone.

The little ones can channel their inner Monet with Thrive Art School’s French inspired art workshops. For kiddos ages 5 to 9 years old, register them in advance for this $45 workshop here. While you can stroll the Bastille Bash, meander in and out of the boutiques that will be serving wine (a $10 donation gets you a wine passport for sampling), do a little dancing to the many live bands and have some kid-free time.

Other fun things you won’t want to miss at Madison Valley’s Bastille Bash include free garden and chef demos, jugglers, stilt walkers and accordion players.

Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Response Center. If that isn’t something to put a j’adore on, we don’t know what is.

Be in the know:
Date: Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 3:00pm – 8:00pm
Location: Seattle’s Madison Valley, on East Madison Street from 27th Avenue to 30th Avenue
Cost: No entrance fee
Website: Keep an eye on details on the Bastille Bash Facebook page

In the heat of the summer, there is nothing like a canoeing day trip on the Russian River. Leave early and drive up to Guerneville, a small town along the river in Sonoma County. Visions of swimming and frolicking in the river, picnicking on a sandbar and most of all, enjoying a family day doing something fun, new and active will keep you motivated during the drive from the city.

When to go: In the summer or spring, when you want to escape the fog, the city, or both.

Approximate travel time: Guerneville is located 75 miles north of San Francisco, about an hour and a half drive.

What to see/do: One company named Burke’s Canoe Trips does half-day adventures. This outfit is a great idea if you have bigger kids, who are ready to paddle, but not with the wee ones. Johnson’s Beach is an option that accommodates smaller children. It’s a quaint spot where you can rent canoes by the hour, perfect for short attention spans. If you are not sure how your child will react to the vessel or activity, better not to invest too much energy or spend too much money.

Johnson’s Beach is a sweet little beach, reminiscent of spots in New England in the 70’s, a little lost in time, but that is part of the appeal. The locale and pace is slow, relatively easy to negotiate and an antidote to the foggy San Francisco summer. It is really low tech, really friendly and family run. It’s not fancy, but that too is what makes it special. You can rent an umbrella and someone will even come over and pound it into the sand for you. The snack bar serves soft serve for a dollar and you can rent inner tubes to float along if you don’t want to paddle. A popular area is the roped off kiddies pool and many folks just hang on the beach with a cooler and a good book.

In a canoe, an hour is a bit short, but enough for a paddle around. If you want to go down the river, away from the crowds, pack a picnic and plan on a three-hour tour. Once you get into a canoeing rhythm you can stop often to swim and hang on the shore, passing many other folks out for a paddle. If you head further down the river, you’ll be surrounded by calming peace and quiet!

Check out all the homes with docks and tables and setups along the banks. It is a leisurely way to introduce canoeing to little ones, who like to act as coxman, if they are not into paddling. The return trip takes slightly longer so make sure to plan out your journey.

Possible lunch spots: Once you have returned your canoe, head over to Flavors Unlimited for a simply divine and well deserved cone or shake. For a truly classic day, stop at In and Out for a burger and fries in Petaluma or Mill Valley, and then head home.

How to dress: Summer gear! Don’t forget the swimsuits, towels, hats and sunscreen and a change of clothes for the way back.

Cost: For the price of a ½ tank of gas and about $50, you can have a full day adventure! The beach offers canoes, kayaks and paddle-boats for rent ($30 day or $10 hour), as well as umbrellas ($6 day), low beach chairs ($5 day), and inner tubes ($5 day).

Need to know: This year because of the snowmelt, the river is higher than usual and the current stronger. Everyone needs to wear life preservers and safety first, always. Ask for a little refresher, children will listen to the experts about not standing up in a canoe.
