We all have an idea of what we’ll be like as parents, whether it’s influenced by a favorite social media expert or that trendy book on Scandinavian parenting. But you never really know what your parenting style will be until you welcome your first child—and so many factors can influence whether you stick to your plan or it all flies out the window. Seeing the world through your little’s point of view can inspire you to explore your own, and one fun way to do that is by diving into your unique natal astrology. While it’s just one piece of the complex puzzle that is your birth chart, your sun sign—the zodiac sign that the sun was moving through when you were born—can tell you a lot about your priorities, values, self-image, and confidence.

As an astrologer and the author of Raising Baby by the Stars: A New Parent’s Guide to Astrology, I’m passionate about teaching parents how to use astrology to learn even more about themselves. After all, getting to know yourself better can help boost your confidence as a mom or dad, and who doesn’t want a little more of that? So let’s dive in and look at each sun sign to explain how it colors your parenting style.

Aries (March 21-April 20)

An illustration for Aries for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

This fire sign is ruled by Mars, the planet of action and energy, so Aries are passionate, competitive, athletic parents who would ideally prefer to move through life at lightning speed. Keen to be seen as a trendsetter, you’re usually one of the first in your friend group to try the latest baby gear. And as the first sign of the zodiac, your youthful spirit also makes you a kid at heart. You find it easy to strike a playful note with your little one, diving headfirst into all kinds of games—ideally, ones where you can get moving, like relay races or Simon Says—or sending them into a fit of laughter with slapstick comedy. And should your child scribble on the wall with a marker or throw a toy at their sibling, you’ll swiftly let them know that you’re majorly aggravated. But you have zero interest in dwelling on problems that arise, so you’ll work with your kiddo on a solution and move on to the next thing ASAP.

Parents you’ll click with: Fellow fire signs Leo and Sagittarius share your adventurous, go-getter vibe, while air signs like Gemini and Aquarius can keep up with your zippy pace.

Parents you may butt heads with: Your direct, no-nonsense, speedy nature could clash with more emotionally sensitive Cancers, balance-seeking Libras, and slow, steady Capricorns. Whether you’re planning play dates with these parents or figuring out a carpooling schedule, you’ll do well to slow down a bit and remember that you’re more effective when you work as a team.

Taurus (April 21-May 20)

An illustration for Taurus for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Born under Taurus, the fixed earth sign, you’re known for being loyal, dependable, and grounded. You move through life at an unhurried but steady pace and excel at working towards goals one pragmatic step at a time—whether you’re planning a family vacation or potty training. You enjoy being in nature and soaking up the world around you and your kiddo in a mindful way, using sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound to hear the birds and feel the breeze at your family’s favorite picnic spot or playground. And because Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of art, beauty, and relationships, you’re a people person who can easily befriend other parents in your child’s class and a dedicated friend who makes it a priority to keep in touch with your nearest and dearest for decades. As one of the fixed signs, you’re resolute and will see any parenting challenge through. But you can also be stubborn. Once you’ve honed in on a game plan for working with your kid on a milestone, it might be challenging for you to switch things up. That said, at times, making an effort to nurture your adaptability can make for smoother sailing, especially with your partner.

Parents you’ll click with: Fellow earth signs Virgo and Capricorn are pragmatic and enjoy making actionable, rational plans just like you, so together you’ll feel seen and productive. Meanwhile, water signs Cancer and Pisces share your appreciation for fostering heartfelt or creative moments with your kids.

Parents you may butt heads with: Anyone with their sun in the other fixed signs—spotlight-loving Leo, emotionally intense Scorpio, and group-oriented Aquarius—might be as hardheaded as you, which can set the stage for friction. But when you connect and collaborate with these parents, everyone can learn to be a bit more flexible and open-minded.

Gemini (May 21-June 21)

An illustration for Gemini for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Since this air sign is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, Geminis are curious information gatherers. You revel in learning and sharing what you’ve learned with others, including your kiddo, with whom you’re bound to have super-animated conversations from the time they’re tiny. You’re also an adept listener, so as they grow up, you’re eager for them to fill you in on everything going on in their world. Storytelling and reading books with your child—perhaps about travel, given that Mercury rules transportation as well—has likely always been a beloved pastime. And because you thrive on lively interaction, you love making parenting a social experience, whether it’s signing up for group baby classes, FaceTiming with grandparents, hosting regular backyard BBQs, or taking a leadership role for your tween’s soccer team. As one of the mutable signs, you find it easy to switch gears, ditching an activity that just isn’t going anywhere for one that gets your kid all fired up. At the same time, you can struggle with indecisiveness and may be better off focusing your excitable energy on one task at a time.

Parents you’ll click with: You’ll find fast friends in fellow air signs Libra and Aquarius, who are equally sociable and cerebral, while fire signs Leo and Aries share your joie de vivre and action-oriented style.

Parents you may butt heads with: Fellow mutable signs Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces are just as adaptable as you but tend to have priorities that feel quite different from your own—Virgo is very invested in details, Sag cares about the big picture, and Pisces is deeply emotional. For that reason, you could struggle to connect, but tap into your endless curiosity, and you may find that seeing the world through their eyes proves enlightening.

Cancer (June 22-July 22)

An illustration for Cancer for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

If you were born under the water sign Cancer—ruled by the moon, which oversees emotions, intuition, and how a person nurtures and wants to be nurtured—you’re a natural-born caregiver. A sentimental and loving homebody, you crave a solid sense of security with your child and other family members. Cozy activities like baking, tending to pets, reveling in family traditions, or just plain snuggling up together tend to boost your well-being. Your friends can rely on you to be a compassionate listener with stellar advice on navigating parenthood, especially the emotional side of it. And working through tough issues with your child is definitely your forte. In fact, given your intuitiveness, you’re often capable of getting an accurate read on their experience and holding space for them to move through big feelings. That said, when you have sensitive moments, you might want to withdraw into your shell, pulling back from caring for others to look after your own emotional well-being. Being by or in the water can be especially therapeutic for you, given your element. As one of the cardinal signs, you’re a go-getter who naturally takes the initiative when something needs to get done, whether that’s working on the family budget or refreshing your kiddo’s wardrobe for a new season.

Parents you’ll click with: You’ll find you have lots in common with fellow family-oriented, empathic, emotionally intelligent water signs Scorpio and Pisces. And earth signs Taurus and Virgo share your passion for mindfulness and nurturing others.

Parents you may butt heads with: Fellow cardinal signs like airy Libra, lightning-paced Aries, and ambitious Capricorn are go-getters like you but tend to go about their initiative-taking in ways that aren’t nearly as emotionally charged as yours. But by being open to a different approach and joining forces, you can accomplish a lot.

Leo (July 22-August 22)

An illustration for Leo for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Born under the fire sign Leo and ruled by the sun, which orients your self image, you’re a charismatic, confident, fun-loving, and driven parent. Whenever you’re faced with any challenge, whether it’s helping your kiddo process big emotions or setting important boundaries, you generally tap into your seemingly endless reserve of optimism and fierce motivation. At the same time, because Leo is associated with the Fifth House of Romance and Self-Expression, you find it easy to be playful, creative, spontaneous, and even theatrical at times. Because you revel in the spotlight and leadership positions, you’re often the entertainer of your parent friend group and the one taking the reins on major PTA projects. And the sun’s influence means you’re passionate about encouraging your little one to proudly embrace their sense of self and to feel empowered to share their opinions and feelings. You take great pride in holding space for your child to explore their identity and grow into the unique person they’re meant to be. As one of the fixed signs, you can get attached to certain ideas and routines, whether it’s your child signing up for certain extracurriculars or the family hitting a go-to summer vacation destination each year.

Parents you’ll click with: Fellow fire signs, Aries and Sagittarius, excite you with a take-charge, zippy, passionate approach that’s much like your own. And air signs Gemini and Libra are as interested in being on the go and connecting with others as you are.

Parents you may butt heads with: Parents with their sun or other placements in the other fixed signs—slow and steady Taurus, intense Scorpio, and community-minded Aquarius—are all apt to dig their heels in like you, which means you could find yourselves at an impasse due to a lack of flexibility. Doing your best to be open to compromise is key!

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

An illustration for Virgo for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Earth sign Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and information gathering, so you’re a research-savvy, thoughtful, detail-oriented parent with a penchant for planning (you’ve got the lists to prove it!) and taking pragmatic steps to hit your goals. You’re excited by diving into all the studies and articles you can find on a given parenting subject, from the best double stroller to ways to prevent summer slide. And for that reason, your friends and loved ones often lean on you for your advice. Associated with the Sixth House of Wellness and Daily Routine, you’re analytical and health conscious, confidently prioritizing everyday details—like making colorful, healthy meals for your kiddo and working with them to keep their space tidy—to help improve your family’s overall well-being. You also show you care through simple, thoughtful actions, like putting a sweet note in your child’s lunch or making sure their favorite blanket is washed weekly. And given your Mercurial influence, you’re a bookworm at heart and likely have been since you were little, so you aim to share your love of language with your child through bedtime reading sessions or even making up your own stories together. As one of the mutable signs, you can be indecisive and worrisome but often navigate challenges by tapping into your innate adaptability.

Parents you’ll click with: Fellow earth signs Taurus and Capricorn are on the same page when it comes to being practical, goal-oriented, and, well, down to earth. You’ll also see eye-to-eye with thoughtful, nurturing Cancers, and analytical Scorpios.

Parents you may butt heads with: Parents with their sun or other placements in the other mutable signs—buzzy Gemini, philosophical Sagittarius, and spiritual Pisces—are as flexible as you but might also have priorities that are counter to your own. Giving yourself permission to focus on the forest instead of the trees could boost mutual understanding.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

An illustration for Libra for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Libra is an air sign ruled by Venus, the planet of art and relationships, which makes you an incredibly social parent who deeply values balance and beauty. You will go to great lengths to keep the peace and avoid conflict with your child and other loved ones. So, if your kid is having a complete meltdown, you’re generally a pro at keeping your cool and speaking in a calming, hushed tone (to a point, of course). You’re also quite conscious of how your child’s space contributes to their emotional well-being, so you put a lot of thought into the color of their nursery or the art  hanging in your tween’s room. And because Libra is associated with the Seventh House of Partnership, you’re naturally inclined to connect connect with your kiddo, your partner or your bestie one-on-one. You love any opportunity to join forces with another person and work towards hitting a goal together. In fact, as one of the cardinal signs, you’re more of a go-getter than you might initially let on. You’re particularly motivated to bring people together, hosting super-memorable birthday parties or neighborhood gatherings. And your parent friends can count on you to plan a playdate for the kids that’s enriching and fun, whether it’s a fun painting project or a trip to that pretty new cafe in town.

Parents you’ll click with: Other air signs, Gemini and Aquarius, are equally social and cerebral, so you’re practically guaranteed some lively conversation. You’ll also find fire signs Leo and Sagittarius enlivening since they’re also eager to connect with other parents and engage with the world around them.

Parents you may butt heads with: You can appreciate the initiative taken by other cardinal signs—direct and sometimes brash Aries, sensitive Cancer, and industrious Capricorn—but you’re not quite sure you’re on the same wavelength. That said, you could also be impressed by their unique motivations.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

An illustration for Scorpio for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

You’re driven, private, shrewd, family-oriented, and capable of swimming in the deep end of your emotions as a parent, having been born under the fixed water sign Scorpio, which is co-ruled by action-oriented Mars and transformative Pluto. Given that Scorpio is associated with the Eighth House of Emotional Bonds, you’re capable of setting the stage for meaningful bonding time with your little one as a result of your emotional intelligence, ability to feel viscerally and deeply, and desire to connect with those you cherish on a heartfelt level. As one of the fixed signs, you’re dedicated to both friends and loved ones. This means you always have go-to parent friends that you’ll lean on for advice and who lean right back on you. You’re also steadfast and resolute, the flip side of this quality being that you might find it tough to divert from a set game plan or tradition. If you had your mind set on your child playing a certain instrument or the whole family celebrating the winter holidays in a particular way and shake-ups occur, you could end up really frustrated. Finding ways to go with the flow can boost your inner peace.

Parents you’ll click with: Other water signs, Cancer and Pisces, are equally intuitive and in tune with their emotions, so you’ll easily hit it off with them. Earth signs Virgo and Capricorn are similarly astute and motivated to move toward a successful endgame.

Parents you may butt heads with: While you respect how other fixed signs—slow and steady Taurus, fiery Leo, quirky Aquarius—are as apt as you to dig their heels in, being equally obstinate can make for gridlock. At the same time, if you can make room for both of your unique styles, you’ll be quite a productive pair.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

An illustration for Sagittarius for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Born under the mutable fire sign Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, the planet of abundance and fortune, you’re a gregarious, free-spirited, glass-half-full, adventurous, and fun-loving parent. You deeply value soaking up knowledge and spreading your wings to move beyond the mundane and comfortable in order to broaden your horizons. This means you’ll often be the first parent to bring your little one along with you on vacation—even long-distance trips—or to sign your child up to learn a different language. Globe-trotting is something you absolutely daydream about and prioritize, so you enjoy trying a wide variety of world cuisines with your kiddo and taking advantage of any opportunity to learn about cultures other than your own. You’re a straight shooter who tells it like it is, which can be helpful in setting expectations for your kid. The only thing is, if you have a sensitive child, you may do well to opt for a softer tone. As a mutable sign, you’re endlessly adaptable and up for going with the flow, but might also benefit from experimenting with sticking to a set game plan and holding definitive boundaries.

Parents you’ll click with: Other fire signs, Aries and Leo, share your excitability and passion for life, so you’re sure to have a blast together. You’ll also connect with Libra and Aquarius parents who are always down for some lively socializing.

Parents you may butt heads with: The other mutable signs—lighthearted Gemini, service-oriented Virgo, and deeply empathic Pisces—are flexible like you but might confuse you with their different focuses. If you trade notes, though, you could find you have more in common than you realized.

Capricorn (December 22-January 21)

An illustration for Capricorn for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Traditional, pragmatic, driven to succeed, and eager to put your nose to the grindstone to achieve whatever you set your mind to, you were born under the earth sign Capricorn. It’s no surprise that you’re ruled by Saturn, the planet of hard work, commitment, and boundaries. As a cardinal sign, you excel at taking the initiative, whether that’s signing up to coach your kid’s softball team or managing ticket sales for the school play. And associated with the Tenth House of Career and Public Image, you appreciate being recognized by your peers for your persistent efforts. This trait also means you’re especially capable of modeling diligence and work ethic for your littles. And given your Saturnian influence, setting and holding boundaries is also a strength. Your child will feel particularly secure and safe because of the rules you set and stick to. Since you respect and admire your elders, teaching your little one about their roots and family history is important to you—and can greatly benefit their eventual self-exploration.

Parents you’ll click with: Fellow earth signs Virgo and Taurus are similarly dedicated to rational thought and tackling any parenting issue with a practical, step-by-step plan. And you’ll find that water-sign Scorpios and Pisces inspire you to get in touch with and tap your emotional and spiritual side to turn your aspirations into reality.

Parents you may butt heads with: Fellow cardinal signs — fast-paced Aries, sentimental Cancer, and social Libra — might also love to hit the gas on new undertakings, but their strategies differ a great deal from yours. That said, by working together and leaning on one another’s strengths, you’ll go far.

Aquarius (January 22-February 18)

An illustration for Aquarius for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Quirky, humanitarian, forward-thinking, and science-minded, you were born under the fixed air sign Aquarius, co-ruled by Uranus, the planet of rebellion, revolution, and sudden change, and Saturn, the taskmaster planet. You’re incredibly proud to be individualistic. But as airy and progressive as you may be, your fixed quality can pop up in the form of black-and-white thinking that can leave you feeling a bit stuck. Leaning on others could be the solution to moving through that feeling, given that Aquarius is the sign associated with the Eleventh House of Groups. You value team efforts, community, and connecting with a diverse group of parent friends, so it’s very important to you that you find your village. And when you’re not leaning on others and working as part of a group (think: organizing a nanny share for you and your neighbors), you’re leaning into your tech savvy to solve problems using the latest apps. This may also mean that you prioritize trips to science museums, STEM activities, and reading with your kiddo about famous scientists like Katherine Johnson and Albert Einstein. And because community is so important to you, you’ll also want to empower your child to use their unique voice to make a difference, bringing them along with you when you dive into volunteer and charity work.

Parents you’ll click with: Fellow air signs Gemini and Libra get your intellectual, people-oriented style, so you’re at least apt to strike up some stimulating conversation. And you’ll also find harmony with on-the-go Aries and jubilant, free-spirited Sagittarius.

Parents you may butt heads with: While you appreciate that other parents with fixed signs—comfort-seeking Taurus, self-focused Leo, and intimacy-seeking Scorpio—are as resolute as you are, you might feel like they’re just not on your wavelength. Still, working to be more flexible can set everyone up for a win.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

An illustration for Pisces for an explanation of your zodiac signs personality and how it affects your parenting style

Intuitive, sensitive, perceptive, and a bit psychic, you were born under the mutable water sign Pisces, which is ruled by Neptune, the planet of spirituality, and Jupiter, the planet of luck and abundance. You’re innately artistic and can easily channel your deeply felt emotions into a creative project, whether that’s painting, dancing, singing, or playing an instrument, and this is a skill you’ll be excited to model for your child. One of the mutable signs, you’re able to float from one activity to the next with your little one, but you might struggle to pin down a set routine or schedule that could benefit you all. Your Neptunian influence and Pisces’ association with the Twelfth House of Spirituality also makes you something of a dreamer at heart, so any opportunity for escapism with your little one—like watching a fantasy movie or reading a book bursting with whimsical, magical themes—brings you a great deal of joy. You’re also highly adept at picking up on your child’s emotions, doing your best to offer a helpful solution when they’re struggling. You’ll do well not to overidentify with stress that isn’t your own, as you could easily lose yourself in that experience. Offering yourself the same kind of tender loving care you unconditionally give others is a must.

Parents you’ll click with: Fellow water signs Cancer and Scorpio are in tune with their deepest-rooted emotions, which makes you feel truly understood when you’re spending time together. Earth signs Taurus and Capricorn might be more pragmatic than you but inspire you to make your dreams a reality.

Parents you may butt heads with: You and other mutable signs—social Gemini, analytical Virgo, and philosophical Sagittarius—might share the ability to change course at a moment’s notice, but you feel like you have different priorities. Still, you’re all very open minded, which means that as long as you’re willing to listen, you can learn a lot from one another.

Live vicariously through these crafty parents (and get a little inspiration if you are one!)

Before the days when your kid breaks your brain with three last-minute Halloween costume changes, parents enjoy a simpler time—one where you can dress your baby in any costume you want. And oh the cuteness! Some parents take these looks to the next level by building elaborate stroller costumes that turn their little’s rides into everything from bulldozers to rocket ships, which is particularly convenient if you have a big sibling with more stamina going door to door. While we don’t all have the energy to partake, they’re super fun to look at, so we’ve gathered the best Halloween stroller costumes for your viewing pleasure.

Arrrrr you coming trick-or-treating? This pirate ship blew our minds! Hope no one has to walk the plank on Halloween night.

These weird kids products might actually be genius

There’s always some new product for babies and kids out there. The “next big thing” is just around the corner, and with kids growing and changing fast, it makes sense that products have to keep up. Sure, when we were growing up, we were gnawing on wooden blocks and throwing glass bottles with latex nipples across the room and we came out okay. Right? Or at least, made it to adulthood. That doesn’t mean the “new and improved” weird kids products aren’t, well, improved.

But we’ve gotta say it. There’s also some weird stuff cropping up. The “are you serious” products that we can’t quite believe are real. They’re good for a laugh, but what if they’re actually brilliantWhat if these strange products work like a charm? Well, we did a little research and, lo and behold, there are a lot of them that do. Based on Amazon reviews, this stuff seriously can’t be missed and might ultimately become must-haves. So, between making your life as a mom easier, saving you some time and money, and giving you the chance to tell all your friends that you found the Holy Grail of parenting, we think this list is going to blow your mind. But in a good way. These are the weird kids products that might actually be brilliant!

WONDERFOLD W4 Original Quad Stroller Wagon

Amazon

We'll admit it. We'd love to ride around in this 4-kiddo canopied wagon.

Amazon Review: I am a mommy of 3, 3 and under, and use this wagon whenever I have the chance! My family and I bought it to replace our hard-to-use double stroller and it has become a holy grail. One of my biggest concerns was the ease of use, but unfolding and folding couldn’t be simpler. I was also worried about it taking up too much space in our trunk (we drive a 2022 Highlander for reference) but it leaves a great amount of room for groceries and luggage when you lay it flat with the handle up! I am IN LOVE and cannot wait to use it for years to come! -A.Donaldson

Foam Bed Bumpers

You can skip the separate toddler bed and go straight to the big kid bed with these genius under-the-sheet foam bumpers!

Amazon Review: We bought this for our 4 year old who is now sleeping on a full size bed. He moves quite a bit, but the bumper helps him stay in the bed. They come in a small box, but inflated pretty much immediately after getting them out of the packaging. He will sometimes place his head on the bumper, hug it or put a leg over it. It does the job. He has not fallen out of bed once. These were the tallest bumpers of this kind I could find. I am pretty happy with the purchase. -Ester

What?

Amazon Review: I don't know this "Banana man" thing is, but my mom found it one day scrolling and told me how amazing he was and couldn't stop laughing. So I bought it, put it in a gift bag under the tree and Christmas morning all you hear is mom say my name, we all laugh as she launches him out the bag laughing hysterically hard screaming "Banana mannnnnn!" Smiley Mia Penguin Buddy Never Drop Silicone Baby Teething Toy

Amazon

We love how these teethers are easy to grip, even for the teeniest hands!

Amazon Review: I'm on my third baby, and have multiple friends with multiple babies so I can confidently say I've used, seen and bought many baby teethers. This it the only one that doesn't get dropped constantly. My 4 month old loves to hold it even if she's not chewing on it. And when she starts fussing, I give it to her, she chews, and immediately calms down. I do have to help her open her fingers around the bar to grasp it, and I also helped her figure out how to chew on it in the beginning, because she kept stabbing herself in the eye.. But she caught on pretty quick and she loves it. We took it to a Dr. check up and the nurse commented on how cool it was and the design of it. I would buy again, and as a gift for other babies. -Amazon Customer

Potty Training Urinal

Amazon

If you're struggling with potty training, this might be a good option.

Amazon Review: I don't usually write reviews but my almost 3-year-old has been slow to potty train. He hasn't been wanting to sit and pee on the potty. Decided to finally give one of these a try after looking at them on and off for almost a year. First day he peed in it 3 times. Definitely worth it. Easy to clean, it is small but it's for toddlers so I don't personally think it's too small. -Christina

What You Need to Know about Cargo Bikes

Cargo Bike Lane

While there are many ways to bike with kids—from bike seats to trailers to tandem bikes—in this article, we focus on the three styles of the family cargo bike: the Long John or Bakfiets, which has a cargo area in front; the Longtail, which has a room for kids in the back of the driver; and a Front Load Trike or Tadpole trike, which has a front cargo and three wheels for stability. Many of the bikes listed below are electric-assist, which makes biking with heavy loads or uphill much more enjoyable, according to cargo bike enthusiasts.

Let’s Talk Cost

While the high prices for many models are not for the faint of heart, some families justify the expense by using cargo bikes as a car replacement for daily school and grocery runs. If cost is still an issue, consider exploring the robust second-hand market, where cargo bikes can be purchased for a fraction of the cost, so be sure to check out our list of second-hand resources at the end of the article. Also, if you’re wondering if a cargo bike is right for your family, ask yourself these 14 questions.

Expecting… again? Take our word for it, these are the second baby must-haves that you’ll actually use

Congrats, baby number two is on the way! That means more love in your heart, but also more stuff in your home. And it begs the question: what do you really need? We asked parents with multiple children to weigh in on what items to keep, what to donate, and what to toss to create the ultimate list of second baby must-haves. As you’ll see, not everyone was in agreement, but that’s where your opinion comes in, because you’re an experienced parent now, too. For all the parents out there who have ever wondered “what do you need for a second baby?”—this one’s for you!

Before you start the sorting process, remember to give all items a thorough check and discard any that are past their expiration date, recalled, or have wear and tear that might pose a safety hazard.

Feeding

“Make sure to keep fresh bottles and formula on hand for the second baby, even if you didn't use them with the first. You always want to be prepared in case you need them for a middle-of-the-night feeding.”—Julianne

“Don’t keep the baby food maker. I made all my first child’s baby purees. However, I found I couldn’t keep up with the peeling, dicing, steaming and mashing with my second and working full-time. Buying storebought ended up being so much easier and less stressful. If you’re concerned about the regulations in storebought brands, my pediatrician recommended checking the Clean Label Project website. Or, there are fresh baby food subscriptions you can join, such as Yumi.”—Ashley

“I liked having my same familiar nursing pillow for baby two. You can always get a new cover to freshen it up or make it match any new decorating you do.”—Kate

“We had extra breastfeeding pillows from keeping one at a parent’s house, so we donated one of those. We learned from baby one which bottles we didn’t like, so we gave away those extras.”—Kelly

Diapering

“One product I found that was not necessary was the changing table. The floor was so much easier as I was usually sitting on it anyway, and the older sibling was right there to help as well. Pulling out extra wipes was a helpful job and having the older sibling be a part of it made it special for her and easy to keep eyes on both kiddos, which was a mom win!”—Meghan

“Don’t keep a purse-style diaper bag. Get a diaper bag backpack instead! I had a crossbody style for my first, but being hands-free was so much easier with two.”—Ashley

“Between babies one and two, we switched to cloth diapers and so donated that horrible diaper genie!”—Andie

“After the first one, I realized the waste of the diaper genie and wipes warmer. A plastic shopping bag works just the same and is much cheaper than the refills, while the wipes warmer dries out the wipes too quickly.”—Shelly

“Keep the wipe warmer. I was a skeptic. I left it in the box. I mean, really—one more thing to plug in and maintain—so unnecessary, right? Well, three kids later, the youngest (now 4) still insists on a warm wipe when the pull-up comes off in the morning. And in retrospect, who can blame her—have you ever tried to use a cold wipe on a chilly morning? Case closed!”—Kelly

Sleeping

“I was so grateful to have kept our bassinet for the second baby.”—Kerry

“Keep the crib. I reused my crib and put my son straight into a big boy bed. But don’t keep the crib mattress. You want a firm, clean mattress for the new baby!”—Ashley

“Cribs are expensive, and getting a new one for every child would be incredibly wasteful. So long as it meets safety standards, it makes sense to tighten up all the pieces, give it a good cleaning, and buy new sheets for the next baby.”—Adam

Clothing

“We have three boys, so we saved a lot of baby clothes, only getting rid of those that were stained or damaged. We kept it all organized by size in canvas storage containers and pulled them out as needed.”—Kate

“Don’t keep all the old clothes. I had a girl after having my son, and as much clothing as I saved to be practical, I found I couldn’t resist buying some new clothes. People also gifted or handed down plenty to me. Jammies, however, keep! You can never have too many and they’re all adorable. I loved seeing my daughter in her big brother’s shark and construction jammies for some reason.”—Ashley

Car Seat

“As a mom that had her second child five years later, so much had changed. My newest family member was over ten pounds, so the infant car seat was extra heavy. So we used a convertible one and wore him as much as we could.”—Meghan

“The JJ Cole Bundleme is an absolute lifesaver. The ease of zipping it right into the car seat and not having to worry about putting coats on and off is well worth it! With multiple winter babies, I couldn’t imagine not having it!”—Rebeka

Stroller

“Time to upgrade the stroller. I like the sit-stand type so my older kid can jump on and off.”—Christopher

“If you have kids close together, a sit-and-stand stroller is great. The older one wants to be independent but still gets tired easily so it's great when they want to hop off to walk with you.”—Shelly

“We never bothered with a double stroller since the boys are four years apart.”—Kerry

“I definitely kept the strollers. I held on to almost everything if I’m being honest!”—Lindsay

Play Time

“I donated anything we never used with baby one, anything broken, chewing toys with plastic, gifts we didn’t use. Babies need very little. A soft place to play on the floor, a place to sleep, an eating chair, clothes, diapers, a car seat, stroller, and a few things to play with and teeth on.”—Kelly

“One baby item I made sure to keep was the swing. It was great for the baby to take an afternoon nap in. Or a safe spot to keep the baby entertained while I made dinner. There were even a handful of nights it helped during the witching hour when everyone was at wits' end! Definitely one of the most useful baby items in our house.”—Nicole

“The playmat is a must keep. It makes the dreaded tummy time a little more manageable. And older siblings love having a turn demonstrating all the toys to the new baby.”—Kate

“Keep any safe place to put the baby when things get hectic. This includes pack and plays, swings, seats and loungers. Also, just because your first didn’t like something doesn’t mean your second will be the same. I was gifted a baby swing that my son never enjoyed using, but my daughter loved.”—Ashley

“We kept my BabyBjörn bouncer, the jumper toys, my lightweight baby carrier, our swings, all of our ‘teach the ABCs’ toys, and our ride-on lion!”—Kerry

It’s Not All About the Stuff

“I’d say that after having one child, when you’re preparing to have a second, you realize how few of the things you registered for or got with your first that you actually used. All you really need are a crib (or similar), car seat, some clothes and diapers, and a stroller and/or carrier depending on your parenting style.”—Phoebe

“The best advice I can give to parents from going from one to two kids is to give yourselves time and some grace as you adjust. Say yes to help from grandparents or friends when they offer. Try to dedicate some special time every day to your first child when the baby sleeps or other parent is home and engage in a craft, walk, reading a book or just playing with toys.”—Lindsay

Here’s everything you need to know about the Mockingbird stroller recall affecting the brand’s popular single-to-double strollers

Attention all moms who use Mockingbird strollers: the company has recalled nearly 150,000 of its popular single-to-double strollers following reports that the frames on some of these strollers have cracked, sometimes causing injury to children. Here’s everything you need to know about the Mockingbird stroller recall, including what action you need to take to keep your kids safe if you already own one of these strollers.

Which strollers are affected?

Approximately 149,000 single-to-double strollers are affected. Mockingbird is telling parents to check the lot number on their stroller. If yours is between numbers 20091 to 22602, stop using the stroller immediately.

Where were these strollers sold?

Target stores nationwide; online at hellomockingbird.com; babylist.com; goodbuygear.com; and target.com from March 2020 to September 2022.

What should you do if your stroller is affected?

Stop using it right away (easier said than done, we know). Mockingbird isn’t issuing refunds for affected strollers but will be sending out reinforcement kits that include clamps you can attach to the frame of the stroller to keep it from breaking.

Why are these strollers being recalled?

Social media posts and reports submitted to the Consumer Product Safety Commission have described how some parents have had their Mockingbird single-to-double strollers break suddenly while being used to carry two children. Some parents said this happened while they were in the middle of busy streets. Some even said the strollers broke suddenly while in motion and caused their children to be thrown onto the ground. At least eight children have been injured with scrapes and bruises. No serious injuries have been reported so far.

CPSC started urging Mockingbird to recall the strollers on Oct. 28. The company said the issue was “rare,” but that parents should examine the sides of their strollers for cracks in the frame. More recently, Mockingbird has posted a statement on its website, saying, “We received reports from some customers whose Single-to-Double Stroller developed cracks in the side of their stroller frame. Thanks to this valuable customer feedback, we developed a Frame Reinforcement Kit that further strengthens the stroller frame and prevents this rare issue from being able to occur.”

How to contact Mockingbird

Call Mockingbird at 877-274-3240 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, or send an email to the company at recall@hellomockingbird.com. More information is available at hellomockingbird.com/recall. To report problems with your own Mockingbird stroller, visit the CPSC website at saferproducts.gov.

With September marking Baby Safety Month, it’s a great time to ensure that the gear you choose for your growing family is equipped with features that make for a smoother, safer journey together. When it comes to selecting a high-quality, durable, and safe stroller, Bugaboo’s baby gear is tested well beyond industry safety and quality standards.

For peace of mind when your family is on the go, look to these recommended Bugaboo products and top safety tips to keep your infant safe.

Bugaboo Baby Gear to Keep Your Bundle Safe & Secure

1. Bugaboo Fox 3

The Bugaboo Fox 3 Bassinet and Seat Stroller is a versatile, all-terrain must-have. The bassinet attachment includes breezy panels for optimal airflow, ensuring your baby can regulate their natural body temperature and won’t get overheated on hot days. Better yet, you can magnetically seal the panel closed whenever cold drafts come your way. When your newborn is ready for the stroller seat, buckle up with the five-point harness, which allows each strap to be secured independently. The four-wheel advanced suspension and large puncture-proof wheels make it simple to steer (even one-handed!), no matter what bumps along the road you might encounter.

2. Bugaboo Donkey 5

From birth to toddler, this reversible, side-by-side double stroller is a sibling (and parent!) essential. It takes just three clicks to change up the configurations–you can use it with just one child, then add another! Kiddos can sit next to each other, face each other, or both face outward at the sights ahead. This latest version features a higher seat, bassinet and side luggage basket to bring your child three centimeters closer to you for an easier reach at mealtime, playtime and hug time. And just like the Fox 3, the new advanced bassinet’s ventilation system regulates your baby's temperature and keeps them comfortable no matter where you stroll!

3. Bugaboo Butterfly

Three words: one-second fold. Yep, this sleek, lightweight, ultra-compact stroller closes in just a second with only one hand. When folded, the dimensions are compatible with the requirements for carry-on luggage–making it an excellent pick for more effortless travel. The Bugaboo Butterfly is made for children six months of age and up to 48.5 lbs. However, it can be used from birth onwards with a car seat using the Butterfly car seat adapters (sold separately).

4. Bugaboo Turtle One by Nuna

Speaking of car seats, the Turtle One by Nuna seat seamlessly integrates with Bugaboo Ant, Bee, Butterfly, Donkey, Fox, Lynx and Cameleon 3 strollers. Designed in collaboration with premium car seat brand Nuna, this seat safely transports your baby from stroller to car (and back!) with ease from the day you drive home from the hospital to the countless adventures ahead. Parents appreciate the resilient outer shell and tailor tech foam for top-notch side-impact protection. P.S.: The Turtle One by Nuna is 20 percent off for the month of September in honor of Safety Month!

Top Safety Tips to Ease Your Worries

No matter which Bugaboo stroller you choose, these simple tips can help keep your kiddo safe and comfortable:

  • Don’t hang heavy bags on the handlebars, or it may tip backward. Properly store your belongings in the basket below the seat.
  • Always lock the stroller’s brakes when you’re stopped. And make sure the stroller is in a locked position when you put your child in!
  • Never leave your child unattended in the stroller.
  • When opening and closing the stroller, be sure that your child isn’t close enough to get their little fingers caught in the hinges.
  • Buckle your baby’s harness whenever you’re out for a stroll.

It may sound extreme, but it’s true: The BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller changed the twin mom game for me. Double jogging strollers can be used by any mom with two little ones, not just twin moms. I just happen to be a twin mom who has searched high and low for months and months for a stroller that did not make me feel like a moving circus act every time I left the home with my babies.

One of the first things I realized about double strollers is how heavy they are. I ordered a random light stroller frame from Amazon that would hold both of my infant car seats because the double stroller I was grateful to receive off of my registry was way too heavy for me to use for my twins first doctor’s appointment. (If you’ve just given birth, you’re not supposed to lift heavy things.) That’s where my search for the best double stroller began.

The first double stroller I had was marketed for city living and ease. It was a common model that presented as a stacked stroller about the same width as a single stroller. It was, however, undeniably heavy and every time I wanted to collapse the stroller to bring it somewhere or store it, I’d have to remove bassinets, canopies, and basically… my entire trunk would be packed with stroller parts.

I started investigating side-by-side double stroller options. The usual massive width of these strollers creates a bit of an issue for swift steering, though. I do live in a city area, and sidewalks are wobbly and there are a lot of turns. I struggled with the idea of taking the babies out with the double strollers (now, two) I had and couldn’t seem to find a better side-by-side alternative. It started interfering with the amount of time I’d spend taking my babies for healthy walks.

I tried a double wagon, and while that was adorable for rolling up to our first outdoor barbecue event, it was less than ideal and way too wobbly for my babies to use it for a routine morning walk. I was still dreading the intense breakdown of the main double stroller I had, even though now I was cleared to lift heavy items again.

Truly, every second counts when you are by yourself with two babies out and about. When loading them into the car, first, I’d strap my one baby into a car seat and quickly stroll the other baby over to the other car seat to get strapped in. Then, I’d find myself in the street, while my babies were in my car, wrestling with a stroller and it was an unsettling feeling. My babies are patient, but all parents know the faster you can start the car the better to keep the little ones calm. Additionally, as a new mom, you just want to be right by your baby’s side every second. I would find myself triple checking my keys were on me, the windows were cracked, and keeping an eye that no cars were coming… while breaking down a complicated double stroller.

I knew the only stroller that would fulfill my needs would be one designed for speed, in every way, and that’s when I decided to take home the BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller.

tinybeans tested bob double jogging stroller

$800 BUY NOW

The BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller features two five-point harnesses to keep the little ones snug and safe on speedy rides and is available in two sleek styles which don’t draw extra attention. That’s a big bonus for me. A special feature about this stroller is the air-filled tires. Since the tires are filled with air, kids experience a super smooth ride, even on terrain that is anything but smooth.

Let’s talk about storage! Oof, there is so much storage in this double. There are 10 roomy pockets and an oversized cargo basket at the base of the stroller which makes this an ideal stroller for an actual beach day or a full Target run. The stroller is also technically compatible with most car seats. I don’t use this feature, but you would just need the BOB infant car seat adapter to hook it all up and turn it into a travel system. That’s a money-saving bonus I didn’t know about during my pregnancy. The stroller can be used from birth up to 50 pounds (per stroller seat), but BOB states it’s best to wait until the youngest babe in the stroller is closer to 5-6 months before jogging with it.

Unlike other stacked double strollers, the side-by-side open style allows my little ones to see and take in everything they stroll by. The seats feature compression padding for comfort and to support sitting upright. The babies appreciate the full-coverage canopies that offer UPF 50 protection, and so do I.

After popping open the BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller for the first time, I realized not only did I have a stroller that was way more functional and easier to use, but I now owned a stroller that made me excited and proud to strap in my babes and hit the sidewalks and trails, thanks to the oversized all-terrain wheels and aerodynamic frame. I take the twins everywhere in my BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller, now, even if the frame still is technically wider than a single-lane double stroller with a stacking structure.

Aside from it being the fastest double stroller I’ve found to collapse and open up, it has plenty of storage room, and the side-by-side design means I can tend to both babies equally when they need me at the same time. I am happy to trade in ultra narrow doorways or pathways if it means I can have this stroller experience! While it is a side-by-side, there is only one wheel in the front that the stroller narrows out to which makes it feel less massive.

I wouldn’t call this stroller lightweight, it is a durable double stroller that weighs 33 pounds, but the seamless breakdown or pop-open experience make the whole process light in general. In fact, when I first received the stroller, I put it together (really just pushing in the wheels and popping it open), in a shorter amount of time than it took me to collapse my other already assembled double stroller options.

I am a spontaneous person, and I’ve been told that would have to stop when I had twins, but now I really can’t say it has. My diaper bag is pre-packed and my BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller is my new best friend. Try and stop us! You wouldn’t even be able to catch us! This double stroller gave me my life back, and I love experiencing life with my babies.

Clearly, the BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller isn’t the most affordable stroller on the market. Do I think it’s worth it? Absolutely.

However, if you’re a new twin mom or a mom of two and are looking for a stroller that will feel easier to move around in a variety of locations, my recommendation would be to go straight for a double jogging stroller. I checked out what other parents are saying, and here are some more affordable alternatives which may suit your needs:
