Find out the best Costco hours to shop to whether or not you really need Costco coupons, these hacks will make your shopping experience even better

If you have a Costco membership, then you already know all about the joys of shopping for steals while sampling the goods. What you might not be aware of, however, are the secret tips to navigating your favorite shopping destination, and the extra “hidden” ways you can use that membership to earn even more. Here are some of the best Costco hacks and tips to save you money.

You Can Get Curbside Pick Up

Due to COVID, Costco is now offering curbside pickup on selected items for members. Most of it is electronics and jewelry, but it's still a nice perk.

Get Immunizations

Cross two errands off your list when you make an appointment at the Costco pharmacy for annual immunizations. You can get a flu vaccine for the whole family and other important milestone immunizations. The pharmacy accepts all major insurances.

Know Your Price Codes

Did you know there are all sorts of little tips and tricks when it comes to figuring out those price codes? Yup, there's a system. Think asterisk = seasonal and 97 cents means a markdown, etc. There are more, according to Wallet Hacks

Shop without a Membership

Want the perks of shopping at Costco without the cost of a membership? There's an easy way to make it happen. If you don't mind using Instacart, simply fire up the app and place your Costco order, no membership is needed. Of course, with a $5.99 delivery fee, it still isn't completely free, but you're also gaining the convenience of shopping from home—although you won't get to nibble on all those samples.

Save on Gift Cards

It’s nearly impossible to get gift cards on sale since you are essentially just trading in cash for a card of the same value. At Costco, however, you can purchase a pack of gift cards to various retailers at a discounted rate.

Ditch the Coupon Book

Forgot your coupon book? No worries. Nowadays, according to Wallet Hacks, there are no barcodes and the savings are automatically applied to your bill. The book is just your monthly list of deals and savings.

Skip the Food Court Line

After navigating your way through Costco and the enormous checkout line with kids in tow, the last thing you want to do is wait in another line to grab lunch, especially if your tots are hangry. Luckily there's a ridiculously simple way to skip the food court line. While you're checking out, place your order and pay, then all you have to do is show your receipt and grab your food at the pick-up area.

A trip to the movies for a family can get pretty pricey, but at Costco, you can purchase a 10-pack of movie tickets for a discounted price and they never expire. With the money you’ll save, that overpriced popcorn and drinks won’t be quite so bad.

Love Costco's prices, but not the crowds? Beat the lines and packed aisles by shopping on the best day and time. According to Business Insider, try to bypass the weekends and shop on weekdays if possible. It's also best to avoid evenings, so load up your tots and hit Costco early or mid-morning.

You'll Never Overspend

While we can't guarantee you won't buy one too many bottles of Kirkland wine, you definitely won't get charged for more than what you take home thanks to the one thing Costco employees always do before you leave the store. As it turns out checking that receipt and drawing that smiley face has nothing to do with making sure you're not stealing. Instead, Costco does this to ensure that you haven't been double charged for any items.

Another way Costco makes sure you won't overspend is with its 30-day price adjustment policy. According to Eat This, Not That!, if an item goes on sale within 30 days of when you purchased it, Costco will pay you the difference, no receipt needed.

Want to make sure you're getting the best deal possible? According to Eat This, Not That! you'll know a Costco item has been discounted if the price ends in $0.97. If the price tag also has an asterisk, then it won't be restocked.

17. Tales From the Chair on Zoom

If waiting in long (and often frigid) lines for a 30-second photo opp isn't how you want to spend your hard-earned holiday time, consider one of the few amazing Christmas experiences to come out of the pandemic: a virtual Santa visit! And if you book with Tales From the Chair, you don't just get an audience with Saint Nick. You also get 20 minutes of one-on-one time with Mrs. Claus and a few elves. What makes this Zoom opportunity so special is that they make it a goal to see all families, no matter their financial situation. This year, they're introducing a sliding scale instead of set prices with a goal to raise enough that they can fund a day of fully-free Santa visits. If you can afford to donate, tip, or pay a little more, those dollars will go directly to financing this mission.

The next time you travel by airplane with kids in tow, be sure to prep the carry-on bag (and your mindset) for just about anything—including delays. We came up with a list of entertaining ideas for tiny travelers that are perfect for the airport; having enough snacks is up to you. Read on for 17 activities to keep kids busy until you hear the words “now boarding.”

1. Find the play area. A lot of airports have kid-friendly spaces. If you've got an hour or more to kill, let your little flyers burn off extra energy. Check out our picks for the best airports to be passing through (or stuck in) with kids.

2. Play I spy. This game is one of the best ways to pass time, and an airport is filled with interesting things to spot, so this classic game can potentially take up a lot of time.

3. Explore the food court. Make it a progressive dinner. Have apps at the first place, the main course at your second stop, and try dessert at a third and final restaurant.

4. Let the kids unwrap a toy. Something tiny (and wrapped up tight) will keep them occupied. We've got a great list of airplane toys for $10 and under

Brett Sayles via Pexels

5. Watch the planes. Watching planes take off is exciting, and it'll get your budding pilots pumped for their aviation adventures.

6. Make a new pen pal. Families from all over the world pass in and out of airports daily. If you wind up stuck with other folks toting little ones (solidarity, people!), strike up a conversation and maybe exchange info. Who knows how many lasting connections you might make?

7. Strike a (yoga) pose. Downward dog isn't the only animal pose in yoga. You can get little legs moving by doing a few simple stretches right in the waiting lounge. Some airports, such as San Francisco International, Dallas-Fort Worth International, and O'Hare International even have rooms designed for this exact purpose! Find more kid-friendly poses here.

Atlanta International Airport

8. Check out all the artwork at the airport. You didn't have time to hit up the local museum? Well, you're in luck because many airports have rotating exhibits and permanent pieces displayed for everyone's viewing pleasure. If you ask an employee, chances are they will have a map and be able to point you in the right direction.

9. Bust out a busy bag. It's always a good idea to pack a few toys; busy bags are great because you can change them up every time you fly. We love this portable activity kit from Mama. Papa.Bubba because it gives kids so many ways to stay busy, and this LEGO travel set from Fun at Home with Kids promises hours of fun.

10. Go on a scavenger hunt. If you've got paper, a pen and eager kids, then you have what you need for an airport scavenger hunt. It's easy to prep this activity ahead of time, but it's also a cinch to do it on the fly (pun intended!). If you want to leave this idea to the pros, check out this free printable from Playdough to Plato.

11. Have a thumb-wrestling tournament. 1, 2, 3, 4... I declare a thumb war! If there's an easier way to pass the time, we haven't found it. You can create brackets, try two-out-of-three, or challenge other travelers. One thing's for sure—there are giggles to be had any way you play.

12. Make a paper fortune teller. Do you remember making paper fortune tellers as a kid? Check out this tutorial, grab paper and a pen, and be on your way to seeing the future (Does it say when the flight will leave?).

13. Create motor skill challenges. Kids don't need too much space to take on motor skill challenges like "stand on one foot," "jump up and down ten times," "touch your toes five times,'' and whatever other ideas you have. If there aren't too many people in your waiting area, consider using your iPhone to play freeze dance, too.

Vladimir Haltakov on Unsplash

14. Take a walk. With moving walkways, food courts, escalators, interesting people and shops filled with goodies, taking a walk through the airport is an easy way to pass the time. It's also a great way to find items on that scavenger hunt list!

15. Challenge your kids to a few (hundred) games of Tic Tac Toe and Hangman. Adding a few more easy pen and paper games to your arsenal is a must.

16. Play flick football. Make your paper football. and divide your family into teams for an epic game or three. If it's been a while since you've flicked a football, check out our play-by-play tutorial right here.

17. Get a mani/pedi. If the situation calls for one-on-one time with your princess, see if the airport has a nail salon on the premises. There's nothing like a little primping before going on vacation or ending your big trip with a bang.

It’s been one long year of sample-less trips to Costco but it’s all about to end. The warehouse has announced that both the food courts and samples are coming back to Costco!

Last year, Costco somewhat got our hopes up when it brought back pre-packaged samples during the summer. This time around, they’re back for real.

photo: iStock

Shoppers can get their hands on samples at about 170 Costco locations starting in June. By the end of the month, nearly all 550 warehouses will be back in full effect with samples galore.

In addition, you can also snag that churro and hot dog, and eat it, too, at the food court. Costco will be brining back seating at about 50% capacity with up to four people per table.

As if that wasn’t enough, the warehouse has also dropped its mask policy. Happy shopping!

When you stay at one of the Disney World Resorts at Walt Disney World in Orlando, you’re always in the middle of the magic! Disney resorts offer amenities, theming and conveniences you just can’t find at other hotels off-property. But how do you know which one is right for your family? Here’s a handy guide to help you decide.

Perks You’ll Get No Matter Where You Stay

It’s a common question for guests planning a trip to Walt Disney World—where should we stay? And if we stay on-property, do we choose value, moderate or deluxe accommodations?

A value resort will save you money, but a deluxe resort delivers fantastic theming, higher-end dining choices and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. And the moderates…they meet somewhere in the middle. So the key is to decide what is most important to you (and your budget).

Some things come standard at all Disney Resort hotels, so rest easy. You’ll enjoy these perks no matter where you stay:

  • A pool
  • A retail shop and food court on site
  • Ability to make dining and FastPass reservations in advance
  • A mini-fridge in your room
  • Free baggage transfer between Disney Resort hotels
  • Extra Magic Hours
  • Complimentary wi-fi
  • Laundry facilities
  • In-room refrigerators
  • Complimentary transportation to the parks and Disney Springs
  • Magical Express airport transportation

Value Resorts at Walt Disney World

If all you’re looking for is a bed to sleep in and a shower to bathe in, a Value resort may be for you! Value Resorts have smaller rooms and oversized, somewhat garish decor. But they are clean and convenient and cover all the basics a family needs on vacation.

What you’ll find at Value Resorts:

  • Fun, bright, kid-friendly theming
  • Food courts and pizza delivery available, but no Table Service restaurants
  • Themed pools but no water slides
  • Rooms open to outside corridors
  • Large, spread out layout making for long walks to the bus stop
  • No doors separating the sink area from the bedroom (there is a curtain)
  • Bus transportation to all parks and Downtown Disney (and only 1 internal bus stop)
  • Inexpensive room rates

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is a slight exception. It is the newest and has mostly suites, a bigger food court and common areas and therefore has a higher rate.

If we had to pick one Value Resort, it would be All Star Movies. The building exteriors showcase some of our favorite Disney Movies (101 Dalmatians, Love Bug, Toy Story), making this a fun but not overly-cheesy resort.

Moderate Resorts at Walt Disney World

Like with most things at Walt Disney World Resort hotels, the more you pay, the more you get.

Disney Moderate Resorts are a huge step up from Value, but of course not quite as high-end as what you’ll find at a Deluxe property. Moderate hotels tend to have a more subdued atmosphere. The rooms are lovely, the grounds beautifully landscaped and the hotel’s lobby and common areas all add to the feel.

What you’ll find at Moderate Resorts:

  • Beautiful theming with a grownup feel
  • Lush landscaping
  • Rooms that open to outside corridors
  • Table Service restaurant (except at French Quarter), food courts and pizza delivery available
  • Multiple pools—a main themed pool with a water slide and other quiet pools throughout the property

In the Moderate category, my favorite is the Port Orleans French Quarter. It is one of the smallest, which makes it easy to navigate. It features a lovely New Orleans st‌yle architecture and is quite charming.

Deluxe Resorts at Walt Disney World

Disney Deluxe Resorts are detailed in their st‌yle and architecture—from elegant Grand Floridian to the modern Contemporary to the African vibe of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Deluxe resorts will give you the largest rooms, the fanciest bath products and many include balconies or patios. And, Deluxe resorts have the best pools with the biggest water slides. Guests staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge can even boast views of wildlife grazing out their windows!

What you’ll find at Deluxe Resorts:

  • Lavish theming with fantastic lobbies and gift shops
  • Rooms that open to inside hallways
  • Rooms with private balconies
  • Table Service restaurants (including 1 upscale option) and Quick Service dining
  • A main feature pool with a water slide and other quiet pools
  • All the hotels along the monorail line are Deluxe
  • On-site gyms, spas and child care centers
  • Superb service
  • Valet parking

It is very hard to choose a favorite Deluxe Resort—they are all amazing! But if I had to pick it would be a tie between Disney’s Polynesian Village and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. We absolutely loved the vibe at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Although our room’s balcony overlooked the pool and not the African Savannah (a huge cost savings, by the way!), we still got to enjoy the animals from numerous vantage points around the hotel.

We loved the Polynesian mostly for the pool area and because you could watch both the fireworks and Electrical Boat Parade from the shore. The newly renovated Volcano Pool has a zero entry area by the beach and giant water slide that twists through the volcano. The Pineapple Lanai is adjacent to the pool area and it is always a bonus to have a Dole whip within easy reach when you’re at Disney World.

Other amenities you’ll find only at Deluxe Resorts include spas at the main pool, concierge service and lobby entertainment. In addition, Deluxe Resorts feature signature restaurants and experiences (like the Spirit of Aloha Luau at the Polynesian or Mickey’s Backyard BBQ at Wilderness Lodge).

Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts

Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts include Saratoga Springs, Old Key West and villa sections within many of the Deluxe resorts. The Villa resorts include all of the services and perks you get with a Deluxe resort, but also feature units of many sizes up to two bedrooms.

Explore resorts, find deals and compare all of the hotels at Walt Disney World by visiting https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/.

It’s National Snack Day—and Kellogg’s has a super-sized way to celebrate! The beloved brand recently announced the release of SMORZ Jumbo Snax. Now Kellogg’s is adding to the Jumb Snax line with a brand-new Cinnabon Bakery Inspired Cereal version.

You don’t have to take a trip to the mall’s food court to get the cinnamon-y goodness of Cinnabon. Kellogg’s Cinnabon Bakery Inspired Jumbo Snax bites have the classic taste of the ooey, gooey buns, in a convenient travel-friendly pouch.

Why did Kellogg’s decide to bring back Cinnabon Bakery Inspired Cereal and SMORZ Cereal as jumbo-fied snacks? Erin Storm, senior marketing director of Kellogg All Family Cereal, said in a press release, “Kellogg’s Cinnabon Bakery Inspired Cereal and SMORZ Cereal have incredibly devoted fan bases, and we’ve received numerous social media requests to bring back the cereals.”

Storm continued, “The new Kellogg’s Jumbo Snax additions give fans what they desire—another way to satisfy their cereal cravings, anytime, anywhere, with two new melt-in-your-mouth flavors.”

Along with the new Cinnabon and SMORZ flavors, look for other Jumbo Snax varieties in the cereal aisle, including Fruit Loops, Corn Pops, Frosted Flakes Tiger Paws, and Apple Jacks. Find Kellogg’s Cinnabon Bakery Inspired Jumbo Snax in retailers nationwide starting this April for the suggested retail price of $5.49 for a 12-pouch multipack.

If you’re lucky, you may have seen a welcome sign on your last Costco run. It appears that after a months-long hiatus, Costco is bringing back its fan favorite churros!

Instagram account @costcobuys spotted signage at a Huntington Beach, California Costco that shows a twisted churro “coming soon” with a new price tag of $1.49. Before you get too riled up about the $.50 price hike, the new cinnamon and sugar treat is actually bigger than its predecessor––and now has butter on it.

If you remember, Costco announced back in August 2020 that they would be testing out an updated Churro recipe and many warehouses saw the old version removed from the food court menu. There’s no official word yet on which locations will get the new treat, nor when.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on your next Costco run!
