Each season, Starbucks rolls out new menu items. As stores begin reopening, the coffee brand is introducing a new summer-inspired food and drink menu. Along with some new options, they are bringing back the seasonal favorite S’mores Frappuccino Blended Beverage.

New Iced Guava Passionfruit Drink

Iced Guava

This past March, Starbucks introduced two new iced coconut milk-based drinks. Joining this collection for summer is the new Iced Guava Passionfruit Drink. This drink combines flavors of guava, passionfruit, pineapple and ginger, hand-shaken with coconut milk and ice for a smooth and creamy beverage to uplift your day. This drink joins the growing number of non-dairy and customizable beverages on the permanent menu.

S’mores Frappuccino Blended Beverage

S'mores Frappuccino

Back for a limited time, the S’mores Frappuccino layers marshmallow-infused whipped cream, milk chocolate sauce, a creamy blend of vanilla, coffee, milk and ice, even more marshmallow whipped cream and is finished off with a graham cracker crumble.

New Unicorn Cake Pop

Available for a limited time, the Unicorn Cake Pop is a creamy vanilla cake with confetti sprinkles shaped into a unicorn, dipped in a white chocolaty icing, and finished with a magical design.

Lunch is also covered with the new Grilled Chicken & Hummus Protein Box featuring a tender and juicy sous vide grilled chicken breast paired with roasted red pepper hummus and naan bread, baby carrots and snap peas. This item is now a part of the permanent menu alongside a variety of protein options.

Using the Starbucks App, customers can locate a store, order, and pay ahead for their favorite menu items. In most cases, customers who use the App can pick up their order from a barista at the door (without entering the café), at the drive-thru, or (in cases where social distancing can be accommodated) at a counter in a store.

Starbucks’ secret menu has already brought us sweet, sweet goodness in the form of Cadbury Egg, Tropical Guava, Twix and Butterbeer Frappuccinos. Now that fall is on the horizon, the iconic PSL is back and ready for an update—as the Cinderella Latte!

So what exactly is the Cinderella Latte? This seasonal fave isn’t exactly brand-new. The drink was a popular pic pick on Instagram last year but was found online way back in 2015.

The secret menu drink starts with your basic PSL, but with only half the pumpkin. Instead of the full-on PS flavor, the barista goes 50/50 with pumpkin and white mocha.

According to Instagrammer, reported Cinderella Latte creator and seven-year Sbucks barista vet, @happiesteesonearth, “The white pumpkin reminded me of Cinderella’s coach and that’s why I call it the Cinderella Latte.”

If the late-summer/early-fall weather is still at mid-July temps, you don’t have to get this PSL version hot. You can also order the Cinderella Latte iced or as a blended Frappuccino.

Get ready for a flavor rush. Sparkling Smartwater from Coca-Cola will soon come in strawberry blood orange, fuji apple pear and raspberry rose.

This isn’t exactly the first time Coca-Cola has put its own stamp on the flavored water market. In a 2018 press release Brad Spickert, SVP of hydration for Coca-Cola North America said, “We’ve increasingly seen a blurring of lines between categories like diet soft drinks, sparkling waters, sports drinks and more as consumers look for new choices for every beverage occasion.” Back then Smartwater’s sparkling flavor was…well, just sparkling.

According to reports, by the end of March Coca-Cola will release the three new sparkling flavors in North America. They’ll join the bevy of fun fruity flavors that the beverage bottler has debuted in the past few years.

While the Dasani brand is Coca-Cola’s only other flavored sparkling water, the company’s newly-released Orange Vanilla Coke recently joined Diet Coke’s new lineup of flavors including strawberry guava, blueberry acai, ginger lime, zesty blood orange, twisted mango and fiesty cherry.

Say Aloha to a Dreamy Family Vacation at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa

12 Stunning Resort Pools That Have Day Passes for Families

As they say, food made with love tastes better. This could not be any truer than at Aina, the newly opened family-friendly Hawaiian brunch spot in San Francisco’s hip Dogpatch neighborhood. Read on to see why brunching at Aina is like visiting a good friend on the islands, all without having to get on a plane with stroller and diaper bag in tow, let alone having to leave the 415. Trust us, your tummy—and soul—will thank you.

Photo: Aina

Aina, which in Hawaiian means “the land which feeds us,” is where you and your little ones will indulge in Aina’s feel-good eats, from their modern take on Hawaiian fare, such as homemade spam musubi, chicken katsu, taro french toast, or their decadent Portuguese-style doughnuts, known as malasadas. Even more impressive is how the folks at Aina make you feel, with each member of their staff welcoming you and your family with their attentive service and hospitality.

A Tropical Treat In The Dogpatch
Hugging the corner spot in the heart of San Francisco’s Dogpatch quiet residential neighborhood on 22nd Street, near 3rd, is where you’ll find Aina. Neighboring boutiques and cafes are mere steps away, and just across the street is also the Woods Yard Park, a great place for crawlers and toddlers. As soon as you walk in, you’ll be enveloped with island vibes and good eats. You will first be greeted by very warm and friendly staff, and then the yumminess begins.

Eat Like an Islander
Gone are plates of traditional brunch combos like bacon, eggs, and pancakes. Instead you and your family will dive into plates of Hawaiian-inspired cuisine. For something savory, try their Spam Musubi “Ssam Style,” a modern twist with Stone Valley Farms whole hog homemade spam, or their take on Kalbi Loco Moco, with slow braised kalbi short rib and sunny side eggs, or their – say no more – Kalua Pork Belly dish. For the kiddies, they will enjoy Aina’s Kids Bento dish, a cute ‘lil box with compartments of scrambled eggs, chicken katsu over rice, Portuguese sweet rolls, and seasonal fruit.

Photo: Aina

Sweets for the whole family include their Taro French Toast, using bread from Hawaii’s Punalu’u Bake Shop with macadamia nut crumble and coconut caramel. And save room for their signature malasadas, a Portuguese-style doughnut of goodness oozing with guava custard, and covered with coconut sugar.

Scoring a Seat
Brunching at Aina is a treat, so word to the wise: reservations are necessary! As a small neighborhood restaurant, Aina recommends making reservations two weeks in advance, especially for the weekends. For you stay-at-home moms and dads, you’re in luck as weekdays are a bit easier to snag a table without resos. However, if you do need a high chair or booster, Aina does recommend placing a reservation for these requests.

Make a Day-Cation Out of It
When you’re done at Aina, explore the other parts of this 22nd Street stretch of the Dogpatch. From the kiddie park across the way, to all the neighboring shops, boutiques – and if you still have room – cafes that are all walking distance to Aina, make a day out of it. Aina in San Francisco’s Dogpatch is the new must-brunch for you and your family. You’ll thank us. Better yet, just say Mahalo.

Good to Know: Parking around Dogpatch can be tricky, as it’s street parking only. Remember patience is a virtue, and good example for your kiddies.

What’s your favorite shave ice flavor? Let us know in the comments below!

—Anna Doogan

Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, a new Los Feliz ice cream shop is turning out churros with an extra sweet twist. Churro Borough is sandwiching ice cream between cinnamon and sugar coated fried dough to create a crunchy & creamy taste sensation kids (and parents) can’t resist.  Get there early, because it feels like all of LA is in line for sammies, paletas and something called churro fries.

The Scoop
Let’s start with the inside of the sandwich. Churro Borough scoops up 12 different flavors of hand made, small batch ice cream.

Six classic flavors including vanilla custard that purists will love and a spicy Mexican hot chocolate for more adventurous eaters. Others include Spanish Latte, Horchata Sorbet, and Orange Dreamsicle. Be sure to check out their seasonal ice cream menu as well. Right now they’re scooping a Chocolate Malt, Brown Cookie Butter Sorbet, and Coconut Kaffir Lime Sorbet that are worth come back for again, and again and again.

Can’t decide? Tasting is encouraged. We watched one patron ask to taste all 12 and the server didn’t even blink. Perfect for kids who aren’t sure what they want; one taste of that perfect flavor and they’ll know.

Then your ice cream selection is sandwiched between two freshly fried churro discs, which were tossed in a house spiced sugar.  Mmmmm.

More Than Just a Sandwich
Not into ice cream sandwiches? Get it as a scoop (or two) with your choice of chocolate, caramel or guava syrups. Top it with churro bits, almonds, or whipped cream.  Or an ice cream shake, topped with whipped cream.

On the lighter side, the paletas (popsicles) are all gluten free and fresh as can be ranging from tart and tangy (guava lime) to sweet and refreshing (watermelon lemon grass).

Coffee selections rotate from local LA roasters. One week it might be Intelligentsia the next Stumptown, Groundworks or Handsome Coffee.

And we can’t say enough about the churro fries – the thinner, crispier, shorter, version takes a humble kiddie snack to the next level. They’re great for portion control, so your kids aren’t totally bouncing off the walls by the time you get home.  They’re also great for sharing (or stealing) and dipping in one of the house made dipping sauces (choose from chocolate, toffee or guava).

Grab a Seat…If You Can
There’s counter seating inside the small storefront and tables outside, but it all fills up fast. So grab a seat while someone else waits in line and orders.

Heads up: the place is new and popular, which is LA speak means long lines. Try going for a midday treat to avoid waiting at least ten people deep for your churro fix or (gasp) risking that they sell out of sandwiches.

Nearby: Got your treat?  Now explore the street with your kids.  Skylight Books has one of the best curated kid’s sections in town, and is one of our favorite bookstores for adults and kids (and cards…Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are around the corner).  And if you’re in the market for stylish pint-sized clothes, you won’t find a cooler selection than that at La La Ling.

Good to know: Check Churro Borough’s twitter updates before heading over. They’ve been known to run out of product well before closing. But not to worry, they restock every night so your churro dreams can be fulfilled bright and early the next day.  They’re open Tues.-Fri. from 3 p.m.-10 p.m. and Sat. & Sun. from noon-10p.m.

You may find street parking if you’re lucky, but there’s a $5 pay lot right around the corner, worth it so you don’t have to make a trek with tots in tow. Or lose your place in line.
