‘Heatless curls’ are trending, and here are 7 ways to do them

We’re all about as much payoff with as little effort as possible, and we’re not the only ones. All you have to do is open TikTok or Instagram and you’ll get hit with a heatless curls tutorial. So, naturally, the idea of falling asleep and waking up to gorgeous waves is our idea of a dream, so we rounded up some of our favorite heatless hair products and some of our favorite tutorials for how to do them.

The methods can look a little complicated at first glance, but they’re so not. Expect a little trial and error, though, especially if you’re a loyal heat tool user. You and your hair will need to get used to these new twists, but aside from making mornings so much easier, you can expect healthier hair overall. We don’t have to tell you how damaging heat styling can be, so even if you only use these options a few times a week instead of your regular routine, your hair will thank you. They’re also fantastic for kids’ hairstyles.

Kitsch Satin Heatless Curling Set

One of the OG heatless curl sets, the Kitsch Satin Heatless Curling Set is great for medium to long hair in all different textures. The satin headband keeps your hair from getting damaged while you’re wearing it and it’s cushy enough to comfortably sleep in. We’ve been doing it for weeks (and we take our sleep seriously).

Kitsch Satin Heatless Curling Set ($15.98)—Buy Here!

Octocurl

The Octocurl Roller Band features 8 sets of double hair rollers (16 single rollers). Wrap with 4 curlers for voluminous curls, 2 curlers for soft loose curls, 1 curler for spirals or twist outs, wrap tightly for springy coils, or braid for beach waves. Each roller is soft enough to sleep on, too.

Octocurl Roller Band ($32.99)—Buy Here!

Flexi Rod Curls

Beauty blogger @laineymariebeauty rocks this old-school heatless curls method. She only left them in for around an hour, though, versus overnight, so just keep that in mind (no guarantees, but our experience tells us you’d probably wake up with some extremely intense curls if you slept on curling rods that thin). She used a leave-in conditioner first (we like this one) and finished off the look with cult fave Moroccan Oil.

Flexi Rods ($9.99)—Buy Here!

Curlformers

Charisse from @charissechristine makes using curlformers look easy (and makes the end result look incredible). Curlformers essentially ‘zip up’ into your hair (don’t worry, it’s not scary), so you don’t have to twist and roll it yourself. Charisse used Mielle Organics Babassu Brazilian Curly Cocktail Curl Mousse and dampened her hair with a spray bottle. She did choose to use a blowdryer to speed up the process, but you definitely don’t have to if you want to go 100% heatless. You’ll just need to leave your curlformers in longer.

Curlformers ($24.99)—Buy Here!

Jumbo Half-Bend Curling Rods

@fraya.beauty gets her big bouncy curls from a combination of jumbo curling rods and self-holding rollers at her roots. She starts with Coco & Eve Miracle Hair Elixir, then sections her roots and just lays her hair over the rollers. Finish the lengths with jumbo half-bend curling rods.

Jumbo Half-Bend Curling Rods ($10.15)—Buy Here!

Cold Wave Rods

On a natural hair journey? Kalani from @kalanquiocho has perfected the art of heatless defined curls. Her tools? Mielle Moisture Rx Hawaiian Ginger Leave In Conditioner and Mielle Organics Moisture Rx Hawaiian Ginger Hair Butter, added some Eco Styler Styling Gel, then wrapped small sections around curling rods and slept in them. The result? Stunning.

Curl Wave Rods ($9.99)—Buy Here!

Flower Curl

UK brand Cordina Hair offers the Flower Curl for easy curls with a ponytail and a few twists. The satin rings protect your locks from damage (and as a bonus, it keeps your hair out of your face while you wear it). You can use bobby pins or small claw clips to keep the strands in place while they set.

If you’ve been on TikTok recently, you may have noticed a trend for using rosemary hair oil. In fact, the #RosemaryOilForHairGrowth has over 145 million views!

This natural hair care product has been gaining popularity on the social media platform, with people sharing their experiences and results of using rosemary oil on their hair. If you’re experiencing postpartum hair loss or hair changes right now, then we can see why you might be intrigued by this trend. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the rosemary hair oil TikTok trend and exploring the benefits and potential drawbacks of using this product on your hair and how that might impact postpartum hair growth.

Firstly a quick recap: why do women experience postpartum hair loss and changes?

During pregnancy, high estrogen levels keep hairs in their growth phase for longer and delay them from moving into their shedding phase–which means fuller, thicker, and glossier locks for you. After you give birth or stop breastfeeding, your high estrogen levels from pregnancy revert back to normal, and the hairs that were being kept in their growth phase now move into their shedding phase. They rest for several weeks, and then after about 3 months, they fall out. This is why you might shed a large number of strands within a short period of time. This is a very normal occurrence so rest assured, it is just your body’s natural way of adjusting to the changing hormone levels.

Hair shedding can occur from around 3 months postpartum and should slow down around 6 months postpartum. If you find that it doesn’t subside, there may be another underlying issue, and we suggest you speak with your doctor. Do remember that pregnancy, having a newborn, and breastfeeding all take their toll on your body and you must be patient while it resets itself.

Find out more about Postpartum Hair Loss: Why It Happens And What You Can Do.

So, what is rosemary oil?

Rosemary oil is derived from the rosemary plant, which is native to the Mediterranean region. It has been used for centuries for a variety of purposes, including cooking, aromatherapy, and medicinal purposes. When it comes to hair care, rosemary oil is believed to have several benefits. It is said to promote hair growth, strengthen hair, prevent hair loss, and improve overall hair health.

The rosemary hair oil TikTok trend involves using rosemary oil as a hair treatment. The oil is typically applied to the scalp and hair, either on its own or mixed with other ingredients such as coconut oil, olive oil, or castor oil. Users then leave the oil on their hair for a set period of time, usually anywhere from 30 minutes to overnight, before washing it out with shampoo and conditioner.

So, what are the benefits of using rosemary oil for postpartum hair growth?

As mentioned earlier, rosemary oil is believed to promote hair growth and prevent hair loss. This is because it contains compounds that stimulate hair follicles and improve blood circulation to the scalp. Additionally, rosemary oil is said to help strengthen hair, prevent split ends, and improve overall hair health by nourishing and moisturizing the hair and scalp.

Although research around the uses of rosemary oil to treat postpartum hair loss is limited, studies show that rosemary oil may fight patchy hair loss, or alopecia areata. When people with alopecia areata rubbed a rosemary essential oil blend into their scalp each day for seven months, 44% showed improvement in their hair loss compared to only 15% in the control group.

Are there drawbacks to using rosemary oil on your hair?

The effectiveness of rosemary oil as a hair treatment may vary depending on individual hair type, texture, and overall health. Some people may also be allergic to rosemary oil, so it’s important to do a patch test before using the product on your hair – it’s particularly important to be cautious of this during postpartum as you are more prone to experiencing reactions and irritation when your body is undergoing so many hormonal changes.

If you’re not comfortable trying rosemary hair oil during postpartum, find out the nutrients you can incorporate into your diet to promote hair regrowth: 7 Nutrients That Support Postpartum Hair Regrowth.

Another potential drawback of using rosemary hair oil is that it can be difficult to wash out. Some users have reported that the oil can leave their hair feeling greasy or oily even after washing it out with shampoo and conditioner. This is because rosemary oil is a thick, viscous oil that can be difficult to rinse out completely.

The rosemary hair oil TikTok trend has been gaining popularity for a reason. Rosemary oil is a natural, affordable, and potentially effective hair treatment that can improve hair growth and overall hair health. However, it’s important to keep in mind that not everyone may experience these benefits, and the effectiveness of using rosemary hair oil to treat postpartum hair loss and encourage regrowth is unknown. If you’re interested in trying out rosemary hair oil, it’s a good idea to do a patch test first and experiment with different application methods to find what works best for your hair.

Sounds like a much-needed chill break is in order. Luckily, Chicago has several salons that not only welcome kids, but have special spa treatments for kids too. Whether you’re hosting a kid’s birthday party or introducing your little one to the benefits of a good mani/pedi, we’ve got one suggestion for you—get in on the action and make an appointment for yourself. You deserve it.

From postpartum hair loss to overall thinning and everything in between, we’ve got your mom hair solutions

Something about the summer really shines a light on our mom hair woes. Maybe it’s the brighter sun, maybe it’s the heat forcing us to be a little more creative with our updos, maybe it’s realizing that “beach waves” are actually really hard to do when a beach is involved. Whatever the reason, it’s really easy to notice hair loss, thinning, or just general lifeless locks.

Of course, summer is crazy busy, so we appreciate that Hers has pretty much all things hair covered (in one place). Whether it’s just adjusting your shower routine, or adding a prescription to your day, there really are options, no matter what your hair goals are.

Prescription Options

Hers

Some hair concerns require some expert help, and it’s far more common than you might think. Once you complete your online intake form, you’ll connect with a licensed medical provider who’ll determine whether a medication is right for you (and your hair). If prescribed, your treatment ships for free and includes ongoing access to licensed providers for follow-up care and questions.

Hers has options for medical treatment, so for eligible candidates, there’s a treatment for you.

Minoxidil + Hair Vitamins—Starting at $49/month A blend of biotin, vitamin C, B5, B6, and minoxidil

Minoxidil + Biotin—Starting at $35/month 2-in-1 treatment combining minoxidil and biotin in a chew form

Postmenopausal Hair Loss Spray—Starting at $35/month A 2-in-1 spray designed specifically for postmenopausal women

Oral Minoxidil—Starting at $24/month A simple once-a-day medication to help regrow hair

Upgrade Your Hair Care

Hers

These shower hair saviors can change how you manage your mane. It also doesn’t hurt that they’re luxe enough to give you a mini spa day, every day.

Full Volume Shampoo & Conditioner—From $30/month Formulated to boost volume, this paraben- and sulfate-free set locks in major moisture without weighing your hair down. Rice protein and biotin join forces with Hers’ Biovolume 128 to bring you a coastal cedar citron-scented experience for noticeably fuller hair.

Triple Threat Shampoo & Conditioner—From $30/month Control excess shedding, strengthen, and moisturize your hair with Hers signature shampoo and conditioner combo. With powerhouse ingredients like saw palmetto, argan oil, and coconut oil, this set is a one stop shop for hair that’s in need of help.

Rapid Repair Hair Mask—$18 Believe it or not, this hair mask is formulated for any hair type. In just 5 minutes, dry, damaged, overworked hair can be transformed into more of a just-from-the-salon feeling.

Detox Scalp Scrub—$18 One step is so much better than multiple ones, so you can cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize your scalp in one fell swoop. It’s a sugar-gel base that smells like a botanical garden (bonus!).

If you’re not sure where to start, you’re covered there, too. Just take Hers’ hair quiz. Get to know your hair, learn more about your options, and make this summer the last one where you rely on hats (though stick with the SPF).

Celebrate your independence (from paying full price)

But aside from celebrating with your favorite people, it’s also the perfect weekend to shop major 4th of July sales. Shopping is not only a great excuse to get out of the heat for a little while, but these 4th of July sales are seriously good. We love these women-owned brands all year long

Although we here at Tinybeans spend most of our days celebrating the women that create this amazing community of moms, March is officially Women’s History Month! And what better place to kick it all off than by highlighting some of our favorite women-owned brands? Supporting these businesses puts funds directly into the hands of female entrepreneurs and allows them to continue pioneering the ever-growing landscape of women-owned brands. We know it won’t come as a surprise, but women face a level of challenges in business that their male counterparts traditionally don’t.

Being intentional about where we spend our money means researching the brands we’re buying from; we’ve done that part for you, though.
